Edward James Olmos, one of the stars of Sci-Fi Channel's new "Battlestar Galactica" miniseries, had a special message for die-hard fans of the late-'70s original, from which this new version deviates significantly:
"Please don't watch this program," Olmos said. "Buy yourself the new DVDs that they're putting out of the old episodes, and whenever we come on, just put that one in. ... Trust me. Don't watch it. If you're a real, real staunch 'Battlestar Galactica' person, please don't watch it."

And if they do?

"Just don't write to me, all right? I warned you."

After I'm done watching the miniseries, if I hate it(I'm expecting to), I know who to write to. It won't be to any of the cast members. One can't really fault them. They're just doing their job.

My Note to Mr. Bianculli

Thanks for bringing this to your readers. For to long Bonnie Hammer and company have wanted to hide that this mini-series has virtually no fan support. I also owe Mr. Olmos a word of thanks for his candor.

We wanted a “darker and racier” updated show but this Battlestar Galactica strips away nearly everything that made the original special television. In the original series these people we’re our brothers from a distant star based on the ancient astronaut story, Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica is just the US Navy in space. It is not good escapist television for the whole family. For the record Mr. Bianculli we “real-real”, and “purists” fans are mostly professionals, artists and parents who have no desire to go back to the 70’s with Disco hair and robot dogs.
