‘Battlestar’ Fans Brace for a Re-launch

Fans of "Battlestar Galactica" will love Sci Fi's upcoming miniseries remake, says channel president Bonnie Hammer.

Fans of "Battlestar Galactica" will hate Sci Fi's upcoming miniseries remake, says star Edward James Olmos.

Guess we won't know for sure till December when the four-hour reimagining of ABC's 1978 space saga debuts. Producer David Eick told TV critics Tuesday he encouraged writer Ronald D. Moore, a veteran of the "Star Trek" universe, to "absolutely reinvent ... in order to make the story resonate in a contemporary way."

That means a female hotshot pilot in place of the original's male Starbuck character, for one thing. "Battlestar" cultists have been letting cast members know they don't appreciate the reported changes.

"I've gotten some really strong, strong mail," said Olmos, who inherits Lorne Greene's "Galactica" leadership role.

Hammer, sharing the stage with Olmos, seemed stunned. She'd just told writers "we've actually included [fans] in the process of developing the remake, through scifi.com online chats."

At least Olmos is awake. Hammer obviously still had her head...somewhere!

Where on Earth did you find that avatar? You should bring back your original Ron Moore avatar. This one is very hard on the eyes.

Bonnie Hammer doesn't have a clue of how to run a network. I believe she came over from Lifetime network after it was bought by Whoopi Goldberg. I have a feeling Bonnie is in for a rude awakening. The mini will fail and she will have to answer why to her superiors.

I liked the part where they said TOS only lasted one season. I like to see how long their feldercarb lasts. They are placing some very big waggers as to this new property. It also doesn't say much when the series main star has to keep defending it as well as blast TOS fans. You think they would learn from their previous mistakes. The Star Trek franchise has suffered through the treatment of fans that is TOS fans. Killing Kirk peeved the fans so much that they responded by not tuning in.
