I found this really cool page that tries to figure out the actual length of the Galactica if it were real. It lists lots of facts and pictures in a fairly easy manner to follow. :D

That page belongs to our very own Todd Boyce.

I chose the 'approx 4000 ft' measurement since it was the closest to the '4166 foot' measurement that was derived by using the Viper's official 28.5 ft length.

I voted for the 6000 ft length, the original model was built to a working scale of 1/960 witch would yield a true length of 6080 ft or one nautical mile. Many of the images commonly used to estimate the ships actual size were modified for dramatic effect or were mat paintings and not from the model itself. One notable image of the interior of the landing bay showing two vipers landing, was a mat painting not done to scale but was done for dramatic impact.

Measurements of the model were take while it was still on display at universal showed the launch tubes to be 1/960 scale to the Vipers.

You know I always thought that that would be a cool storyline in a continuation episode. That the Big G is so vast, and from what I understand ancient from our standards, that in addition to the observation tower, there might be other hidden and secret chambers in the ship. That some of the answers they are searching for, have been with them all along.

Yeah, I like the 21000 ft option because, well, because I always thought of a Battlestar going after Death-Star rather than an Excelsior.

I had always assumed the Galactica to be one mile in length.

Looking at the sizechart a Battlestar isn't that big. A Basestar is bigger.

I think the 6080 ft measurement is correct.

The Big G is like a city in space.
