What is $1 Million in 1978 Dollars today?

Does anyone know? Just wondering because this is what I recall them saying they spent on TOS per episode. Just curious how this compares to the new mini.

There's no exact way of determining this, because of the many factors involved. But there are several methods of approximation. Here's a site that offers one inflation conversion method.

By multiplying $1,000,000 by the 1978 conversion factor of 2.759 we come up with $2,759,000. So $1,000,000 in 1978 dollars is equivalent to $2,759,000 in today's dollars. Again not exact, but as good a method as any and probably pretty close.

It's also worth noting that we haven't heard anything completely definitive about the mini's budget. Some speculation was that the 15 million figure was actually in Canadian dollars. But no matter what the budget is, it still looks cheap.
