emerita, he's been answering questions for a while now, but his latest one is interesting. When asked about the differences between his Galactica and Star Trek, he says:

"I have been a fan of virtually all of the many Star Trek series; however, the premiere of the latest edition came just as we were getting overwhelmed by the Galactica prep, so I haven't caught up with Enterprise much beyond the pilot."

Enterprise debuted in August or September of 2001, a full seven months before the April, 2002 remake announcement. Moore has claimed he had nothing to do with DeSanto not getting the go-ahead, but if they were getting overwhelmed by Galactica prep in September 2001, then that's still a full two months before Singer left the project. Something smells fishy.

When Singer left in sep 2001 Tom was left twisting in the breeze. They should have shut him down but didn't, I can only interpret that to mean they needed to keep the project going until SciFi could take it over.

The question is why?

The only reason I can come up with is Larson's suit back in 1999, he won, but what?

Through out this whole sorry mess something has been driving Universal, what I think it is - Universal was given a deadline to produce a something with the property Battlestar Galactica and once a project was started it had to be finished.

This would explain what happened to Tom, when his project stalled he was allowed to think he was still going to do it. But in reality Eick was commissioned to find someone to do a redesign. Once Moore was signed and his project was underway Tom could be dropped, and was. Moore was probably not aware of what was going on, Eick might not have been fully aware of what was going on either. This would be the province of Hammer and Diller.

The need to do something could also explain the gross indifference the what the fans want and the blatant lies coming out of Hammers office. What we the fans want they cannot deliver, yet they must produce something that uses the Battlestar Galactica name and basic story, which is exactly what they are doing.

Then Moore is on the hot seat. He doesn't want to lose his job like Tom did, so he is doing Bonnie's bidding. Fortunately Tom had the X-Men to go to....I imagine that Ronald must not be that lucky.....how sad. :(

could you guys help me clarify what the lies are?

I know they are taking a anti scifi fan approach to the cable programming. They lied about the idea of a prequel, they were disengenuous about trying to get our support. They have treated us very callously. They have screwed over farscape fans.

Since I know some folks at the SFC I'm sorta a liaison with the enemy. Just for full disclosure, I'm doing a few models for my second SFC movie.

Having said that, and being fully disclosed now, I think you're off on a couple of points.

Neither the SFC nor Universal ever tricked the fans or sought their support. The only attempt I saw was made by Ron Moore though his interview at battlestargalactica.com . From everything I see, everyone else in the equation really didn't care what the fans thought.

Bonnie Hammer isn't specifically jabbing at the fans either. She just has such a twisted grasp regarding her audience that she blunders through statements like "phasers set of fun" without realizing what she's doing. She's a spin doctor and little more IMO.

I don't think callous is the right description for thier treatment of us. Indifferent is probably a better word.

I know that Farscape was cancelled because it didn't have the ratings numbers. Nothing more. In that case, like with BSG, the feelings of the fans weren't ever considered.

Sandy, this is the part I think is the lie. Didn't Moore say once (I can't remember if it was in your interview or not) that the decision to abandon the continuation (Nov, 2001) had happened long prior to Moore entering the picture? Now Eick is saying that he didn't pay attention to the premiere of Enterprise (Sep, 2001) because he was so busy with pre-production work for his remake. That's the lie I was talking about.

I'm bringing this up from memory but I thought Moore said that the decision to abandon the continuation came long before the info leaked that it was a remake and Starbuck was a woman. If something else was said along those lines I missed it.

If you're right, then that does seem to be an important disconnect between the story and the timeline.

My Humble Opinion (in case anybody's interested, or even if you're not) is:

They opted, deliberately, to scuttle the Singer/DeSanto project in favor of the Moore project (hereinafter "the Abomination", with thanks to LadyImmortal) for reasons that will probably never be revealed.

They then brought in Eick, booted DeSanto, kissed RDM's feet, and ignored the efforts of the fans over a quarter century to bring back the real Galactica; efforts that ALL OF THEM were perfectly aware of, even if they say otherwise.

We need to determine the punishment.....

...And it could have been a case of simply too many projects chasing too few production dollars. When FOX pulled out Singer out of the Singer/DeSanto equation, the money went with it. Universal jumped in like flies on **** (oops) and apparently shifted dollars from one project/show to another. The sad thing is that something worthwhile, like Farscape, could have been left vulnerable due to Universal's shell game. Who knows???

No dollars for Farscape, but dollars for a cheap version of BSG, dollars for Children of Dune, preserving Uni's claim to BSG rights.

From managments point of view they got three min's for the price of one season of Farscape. They can fill more air time, reach a broader audiance with dumber programming.:D
