Hello to all.

I am here to ask you guys a favour. I am a second year university student studying media production at Lincoln University (in England). I have an essay to produce on intertextuality and i am hoping to base it around BSG. I'm kind of new to all this bsg web stuff so am begging for some pointers from you! Were can i find some detailed dissections of the original two serieses? I don't want fan reviews or plot outlines, I need critical reviews, thats good and bad. Please help. Links or documents or whatever. any pointers or anything. Thanks....

Michael Petch :cylon:

p.s.

here is the question if anybody is interested:

“Michael Riffaterre....defines intertextuality as the reader's perception of the relations between a text and all the other texts that have preceded or followed it. Thus the intertext of a film such as Kubrick's The Shining could be said to consist of all the genres to which the film refers, for example the horror film and the melodrama, but also to that class of films called literary adaptations, with the attendant literary affiliates, such as the Gothic novel, and extending to the entire canon of Kubrick films, Jack Nicholson films, and so forth. The intertext of the work of art, then, may be taken to include not just other artworks in the same or comparable form, but also all the "series" within which the singular text is situated.”
Stam, R. et al. New Vocabularies in Film Semiotics Routledge (London 1992) pge 204

Using Riffaterre’s definition identify the intertext of a chosen broadcast programme and evaluate to what extent its existence may enhance the audience’s reading of it.
N.B. Films originally made for cinematic release, The Simpsons and South Park are excluded from this topic.

if YOU have any questions, please post them here. I will check back very soon.

ewokmic,
1st, welcome and thanks for your interest in BSG!
Places I'd start:

Some Articles here
http://www.battlestarpegasus.com/features/articles_interviews/index.html

More here: click on data archive:
http://www.kobol.com

Links here, (Kobol.com and Battlestar Zone are where I would point you to for starters, Sheba's Galaxy may also have an episode guide).
http://www.battlestargalactica.com/features/bnetwork/affiliates.html

There's also a book by Kenneth Muir out there which may be of use. (Amazon will list it, not sure if it's secondhand only or available new).

Specific questions: qmodo runs Battlestar Zone, she would probably give you some good pointers on resources. Her concordance is an amazing reference.
