First and foremost, make it a prequel depicting the flight from Kobol.
Second, change the name around. OK, maybe you can keep the Adama name--it could be an ancentor of Commander Adama. The others would have to be changed.
Third, change the name of the villains. Not Cylons. Something else. Maybe not even robotic--perhaps some kind of parasite that lives inside other humans that can take control of them.
At the end of the film, half the group leaves to colonize the twelve planets. The other half leaves for earth.
Not the best situation, but at least it leaves room for a continuation.
