Well said, Thomas. We fans of the original series must stay united. Even if we cannot alter the current course taken by TPTB (which, mind you, I'm not saying we can't), we must at least keep the memory of the original Battlestar Galactica series alive and growing. By doing this and keeping it in the public eye, even as the new mini-series is in production and, perhaps, airs, we may yet succeed in convincing TPTB of our argument and achieving the continuation we have sought.

I agree. The proof in a person's beliefs is in their achievements. We will have succeeded in keeping the original vision of Galactica and what it stood for alive against the hosts of crass commercialism, edgy morality, and expediency. We will not be defeated by lies, slander or attacks, nor brought low by despair or discouragement.

Now, more than ever, we all need to set aside what we specifically want, and focus on a consensus. We need to be able to move together as a whole. That means saving our energy for spreading the message we want to convey. Don't let all those signatures be in vain. Thousands of people look to us as the representative voices of the main forum for fans of the real Galactica.

True, we are under attack. We are aware of what is goign on, and planning our defenses. But the point is that our energies are, and must be focused on our victory, not on wasting them in a fruitless battle with an adversary who will be defeated by the weight of their own lies, deceptions, and disregard for the basic principles which are so desperately needed in our society and world today.

Don't give up on us- any of you. We will prevail, but only if we remain focused, strong, and firm in the belief that we represent not only a single show, but an entire trend in entertainment hearkening back to a day when "Hero" meant something. Let us live up to that example.

that two of our strongest voices appear to be leaving (or at least not being so vocal). :(

I know that there has been something going on behind the scenes (under the radar, as it were) that I have not been privy too; I've only been here a couple of months, so I do not find being excluded from private discussions unreasonable (I haven't had time to make friends and prove myself, I suppose).

Still, I find the disruption and public arguments extremely disquieting.

I do not know what has gone on over the past several years in this fight, but I agree that a unity of many voices will be heard far better than a cacophony of individuals; that's why I'm here.

I hope and trust that, with the Council election wrapping up today, we will very shortly hear what our leadership has been planning.

i agree with most of what you said, except i dont believe that they whole of the fan base has acted like moores apollo. few have and probably me from time to time.

it is sad that fans are being removed from the sci fi bboard, but i will get over that soon enough.

i love the original series and what it meant to me. moores version will be forgotten as soon as it airs.

That a few things are going on behind the scenes regarding the Galactica name. We have heard nothing from Mr. Larson, perhaps lawyers telling him to remain silent? About a month ago it looked as if the production was on the verge of changing hands then soon after any hope was snuffed out abruptly. Today, Moore's camp releases very little info while the other side (insiders, opposition, etc.) have fell off the face of the earth. We may never know what happened behind the scenes but I sure hope it continues as we speak.

nightscape- not everyone was involved. Many weren't but there has been alot of continuation vs continuation fights and alot of "sensitivity" to proHammer posts. With regardes to the latter, "sensitivity" equalls vulnerability. Its best if we don't dance every time a proHammer pokes our nest. It gives them too much to laugh at.

We are all imperfect individuals. That's not a slam, that's how it is. We have our good points and, yes, we have our bad points. The combination of the two is what makes us HUMAN. The key is whether we allow our good points to be outweighed by the bad.

Our feelings about this struggle are very well documented, on this forum as well as on others. It's the actions we take, in support of those feelings, that are defining us. Those actions display, for the world to see, whether we are FANS or FANATICS.

This particular point in time IS our defining moment. The choice we make here will set our path to whatever awaits us. It's also important to note that having an established goal will help us to decide which particular path we will take. The question is whether we all have the same goal in mind. Mind you, I'm not questioning anyone's integrity. We, all, just need to be on the same page. We have to speak as a UNITED voice in order to have any type of chance at influencing the Powers That Be. This is no news flash, it’s common knowledge. We just need to make sure that we are all WALKING the same TALK.

For the record (again), I am stating that my goal is a return of BSG in such a way that it does not trample the original concepts, themes, characters (genders staying as they were), and history of the Original series. The return of BSG could take a variety of forms: a Prequel, a Continuation, or even a thoughtful remake. But definitely not the POS that is currently on Hammer’s workbench!

Does my goal include a return of the original actors reprising their characters? I personally would love to see it, but it would not be a show-stopper if they didn’t, as long as the goal was achieved. That is what drives me, seeing the goal achieved. Anything short of that will be considered failure.

Do you feel the same way? I think so, based largely on what I have read so far in countless posts. The only problem is that the posts are scattered throughout the forum like stars in the sky., I do think that it is important that we re-state one last time, our goals in this endeavour, in ONE THREAD.

Your thoughts?

i agree thomas, not all of the people are to blame. i am active at the moore bboard and i have no problems with them. i am respectfull of thier bboard as i am here. we had some growing pains when i first got there but we got them ironed out. they know i am for the continuation and have no problem with me.

i consider some of them friends and i consider all of the peopel here friends.

we are all in it for a show that we can be proud of.

I think the whole point of the Council of 12 is two very simple and important items.

One, what is the goal figure it out and craft the message.

Two, plans to achieve said goal, where it gets dicey is getting word out to like minded types while not giving Bonniestar Fubar free publicity.

My Goals in order of disire.

A Continuation 25 years later with original actors/characters mentoring young new characters, preferably with DeSanto at the helm.

Turning the Mini-series into a prequal that honors and leaves a possibity for TOS

What it comes down to is having faith and supporting the new Council or joining forces with the MooreRons and support Bonniestar Fubar. I look at that list of fine people and I don't see me bailing.

I agree, too.

I also agree with what BST says. We need a clear, common goal to strive for, a goal that all of us can get behind and work for. It cannot be bogged down in details, perhaps even some that many of us might think important (i.e. Hatch and Benedict starring). It needs to be a goal that encompasses as many of us as it can.

I await, breathlessly, the word from our Council.

Just to clarify, first and foremost, my primary desire for BSG's return would be a Continuation with a mix of Original Actors/Characters along with new actors/characters that would allow the story to go forward.

My second choice would be for a Prequel that would fill in many of the 'Colonial History' gaps left from TOS. There's really a lot of story to tell with this and, if done thoughtfully, this could keep a writer in paychecks for years.

My last choice would be for a "thoughtful" Re-make, one that stays true to TOS, but begins the story again, with an entirely new cast.

I'm just trying to keep as many options open, as possible, so I don't lose sight of the goal.

Tom, thanks for stating so very clearly what many of us feel! :)

I'll try my best, to behave, and not let 'dem udder ones' get under my skin!

Don't misunderstand me, my first choice has always been a continuation that included as many of the original actors in their original roles as are available. If that is a realistic outcome of our fight then we must fight for it.

I must ask the question: with this production already underway, what is possible? I am not in any kind of position to say, of course, but the Council was formed to aim us at the proper goal.

The original, the real Battlestar Galactica is what I want to fight for; if to get it I must set my sights a bit lower than I otherwise would, so be it. I trust those people we have elected as our leaders will aim this weapon in the right direction.

Dawg-

The goal at this point is to simply give the old show a voice. To prevent it from being killed and replaced like some bodysnatcher movie.

And to be as loud as possible voice. It may make a difference, it may not. But how we face this, is a measure of who we are, how we loved the show, and how great it was.

:D

Thomas, I'm there. I want to be part of that voice and I await orders.

Just don't ask me to go tilting at windmills I can't hope to knock down. Give me goals we have at least some hope of attaining.

Wouldn't we look foolish if we shot for the stars when the moon was beyond our grasp?

I beleive we can still make changes, and I trust our Council to know where to aim our efforts. I have opinions, of course, and will offer them if asked, but at this point I intend to follow our Council's lead.

Why not till at windmills?

As long as we don't act like arses or delude ourselves. I think it does good to have a glorious challenge. To go where the brave dare not go. Or as Kennedy said about going to the moon, "We do this, that and the other things, not because they are easy, but BECAUSE they are HARD".

I think it will be good to do a Rocky. It would be great if we won....but if after all the blows they've thrown at us, if can say we never gave up and at the end was still standing, we can feel pretty good about ourselves. :D

When it is all over and done with......only then, will they realize that we were right...Some people need to crawl, walk, then fall on their fat collective ass before they will see the error of their ways. Only then will they know that it is the fans that make the difference. They should have realized that even after pulling BSG off the air, that the fanbase remained true. That should have set off alarms in their heads. But as it is in Hollywood, most of them, still think it is themselves that make or break a show. At this point, there is no persuading them. Their eyes are closed and the blinders are on. We just need to hold firm to ourselves and our convictions.... and when it comes time to gloat; retain our dignity and do our happy dance all over the boards.......but this is only my opinion and I am a lefthanded dyslexic, so I tend to see things a little differently.......

Em,

You're absolutely clear on this! A wise old sage one time said that "those who think they know everything annoy those of us that do"!

We may not know everything but, we do know what is dear to our hearts. Our perseverance in this battle will serve us well in what confronts us in the future. Whether it is a battle regarding an "old" TV show or a battle that affects us, on a personal basis, the strength we gain from this effort is immeasurable. In fact, we have already won. We have gained new friends, added confidence to state our opinions, courage to "do what it takes", pride in knowing that we did not compromise our principles, just to win. All in all, I'd say we have done quite well.

I look forward to the day when all of us can do that victory dance, and yes, we will do it with dignity (except towards a certain threesome  ).

KTFF,

BST :)
