View Full Version : No applause from original BG fan

So far, I haven't been very impressed with SciFi's new moderated board. Posting has been slow, and I'm not sure if things are being censored or not, so after seeing a number of "oh, the new mini-series is so wonderful" posts, all in a row, I decided to add a dissenting voice to let any lurkers know that not everyone supports Mr. Moore's efforts. I have attempted to post the following.

"It's truly a shame when those supporting Ron Moore's reimagining of a classic series appear to be primarily fans of a different science fiction series and not fans of the original Battlestar Galactica series. Why the tent could not have been made big enough for fans of both series boggles the mind. The marketing department at SciFi must have been ordered to take a nap when the decision was made to exclude the original fans.

Don't get me wrong. Yes, I'm a big fan of that other series, too, including many of Mr. Moore's episodes, but I don't want Battlestar Galactica overwritten and don't want elements of the other series introduced into the Battlestar Galactica mythos. When a group of RDM fans flood the board claiming how wonderful everything is with the new mini-series, I think it is important for the casual fan who happens to drop by this board to know that most fans of the original series are not among those giving the loud, orchestrated (RDM requested?) applause for his effort."

Let us know if they actually let it post. ;)

They must be having a problem over there. I posted something and it isn't even on the board. I went back to check and they were now there. It would seem there is some kind of filtering device being used. Good thing I didn't write too much.

Michele,

They let it go on the board. Jewels and several others saw the same suspicious activity and we were able to post our dissenting views.

Krystal,

Thanks. I think there are lots of us that feel like this, and SciFi will find that out if they air the new mini-series without major changes.

Very well said.

Not to mention that you obviously can't applaud something when you won't be watching.

Don't mess with Starbuck. Or Apollo. Or Boomer.
Or even Adama or Tigh, for that matter. And leaving out Sheba is just.....inexcusable, Mr. Moore.

They also left out Commander Cain which is a favorite character of mine.

Pauly Shore will play the part of Commander Cain. At least that's what I've heard.

No you're wrong again Kingfish. Rodney Dangerfield has been casted as the entire fanbase of Battlestar Galactica.

"No Respect!"

They appear to be at it again today, making insidious little posts about how the production and how great Ron Moore is.

The particularly despicable is a post entitled "Fans love Moore's Galactica." I'm not sure on what planet the author is living (RDM's Kobol?), but the title of the post is very misleading. Continuing our Truth Squad effort, I submitted a response:

"Fans of Ron Moore may love Ron Moore's Galactica, but those of us who have are fans of the original generally don't. Some of our number have worked for years to see a continuation of the original, 20 to 30 years later, following the original themes with some of the major original characters, so Mr. Moore's overwriting of the original is very disappointing to us. Such misleading claims for purposes of enhancing Mr. Moore's production, whether in the SciFi offices, the entertainment industry, or among casual lurkers who just happen to drop by this site, is very disingenuous."

Everyone, please keep watching for things of this nature, and respond in a polite and reasoned manner when you can. We cannot give them a pass that they can use to enhance their efforts in any way.

Lucian, I like your signature line "Tilting at the SciFi windmill". Certainly we must appear Quixote-esque to TPTB, struggling to make what we know is right to happen, despite the unbeatable odds.

We the fans of the orignal show truly do "dream the impossible dream" :).

Agreed but I wish other faces would do the same as well. I hate to see lucian out there alone.

I am happy to see that OWD, Jewels, Muffit, Nightscape, JJRakman, Alpha Nova, BST, snackcakes and myself are still out there setting the story straight but we out number them by far. More people should post there at least once or twice a week to set the story straight.

We owe it to the casual viewer and/or lurker to allow them to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Enough of the theories! There's enough concrete proof out in the web media to present a strong case.

As long as we are polite and civilized, there should be no reason for our posts to be denied by the Sci-Fi Mods.

What I find interesting is that the Moore fans don't have strong points of view, isn't that strange. At least in the scifi board. Is you love it so much, why?

Scooter has a point. This should be our new theme song. I remember hearing a video version done by Rodney himself.

Maybe I can shed some light on this.

The Moore fans cannot expand past their original programing of reply. They are not programed and/or cannot say why they like Moore's script.

All they can do is say "Moore is a great writer." Their strongest argument in the original versus the re-imagination is "This new version is so much better because Moore is a great writer."

The Moore fans can't even slam the original series properly. They don't slam the story or the premise. All they can do is say it was bad and make fun of the hairdos and disco music.

"Hello!!! The original series was produced in the late 70s."

I will exclude both Dennis and Hito from this category because at least those two can give us logical explanations on why they will be watching or why they think Moore's version better (That goes for karathrace as well) The rest of them sounds like those androids from "I Mudd".
