I received an e-mail from summoner about the other side wanting to launch denial of service attacks on our forum and against certain forum members computers. Here is the e-mail in its entirety:

From: "E Brown" sovereign_commander@hotmail.com
To: mcjames70@yahoo.com
Subject: Got some major issues that needs to be address with your BSG fans.
Date: Mon, 14 Apr 2003 03:07:26 -0500

Mr. James.

Sorry to bring this up. But since you are the only person in a position to do anything about it, I'm bring this to your attention so you can put an end to it.

The most inappropriate conduct by members of the group you represent (galactica 2003 members) is the one where one of your members is comparing the two campaign to the war in iraq. She is calling the continuation crowd the iraqis and the galactica2003 crowd the united states.

Add the fact that she thinks it's funny to make such comparisons is so disrespectful to everyone, that I think it is time that you do something about it since it's now past the stage of getting out of hand. I have already had to calm down several people online who wants to go as far as to take down her computer and your forum by electronic warfare means. She hit a nerve with the younger continuation crowd who never had a beef with your group, and most are taking it personal. Most are in the catagory that is classified as computer hacker, and further such comments may bring this to a whole thing to a whole new level.

Add that to the fact that she, BSGbountyhunter, and others, constently throw the fact that they won in the older fans faces in very disrepectful ways, isn't helping much.

I became aware of this powder keg after the nazi comments and have been attempting to keep things under control. But it's impossible to contain the situation forever if that is the way some of your members wish to conduct themselves. It's almost as if they are wanting it to get very ugly, which has me questioning wiether or not they are fans of the new series, or people who have come for the sole purpose of causing trouble.

All I ask is that you, being their leader, do something to control them before this goes beyond anyone's control."
------
This absolutely unbelievable that fans would take the conflict to attacking people's personal property and our forum. Ms. Nevens is aware of this and the only place where she has logged into that a Retro could grab her IP is the Cylon Alliance. I trust Sandy does not readily hand out this info but if she suffers a denial of service attack there will be legal repercussions.

Sincerely

Captain James

This is the exact reason that most of hollywood looks at us with disdain. The internet has been a wonderful breading ground for stuff like this.

Listen up folks. Captain James is right, it's become rediculous. This is a television show, period! To have things like this going on is pointless and only goes to strengthen the reasoning behind what hollywood keeps doing. They look at us as a bunch of freaks that cannot come together for a single cause. THIS is why we get what we get from hollywood now days. Why would hollywood listen to supposedly rational people when posts like this pop up? They don't, that's why the fans usually are the ones that loose out in the end.

Let me put it to you straight whether you for a continuation, prequel or reimagination it does not matter. If i feel like combat is what the fans of Galactica want to do then i'll shut this place down in a heartbeat. If we cannot discuss things in a civilized manner than it's not worth discussing at all. If you have a problem with someone on these boards whether here or any place else keep it to yourself, do not try and rally support to start a damn war over a television show. It's that simple. I've taken enough crap from both sides of the border folks in the last week and it's pointless. I've fought my ass off for Galactica for nearly 10 years and this is what i see brought to the forefront? Pathetic.

I had a dream and it's fadding fast. I look at what Colonial Fleets has accomplished and instead of enriching it and growing a fan base we sqaubble and use political views that you may have as a way to start a war over nothing. TV folks, tv. Grow the hell up!

Campaigning to bring back a television show is one thing. Threatening DoS attacks is another. If that is where the pro continuation crowd is heading, then count me out. I'd rather watch a Cylon get it on with Baltar then this, and I am extremely disappointed in what this has come to.

DoS attacks move the movement into the relm of federal criminals.

If anyone is found to be involved in such a thing they should be summarily banned from whatever forums they participate in.

I'll leave the pursuit of further prosecution to the proper authorities.

For what its worth, I am VERY offended that the Cylon Alliance has been identified asthe place where these attacks must originate. I have never given any reasons for anyone to believe I would do such a thing and am trying to find out how this might happen.

Rather than retype everything, please refer to http://bboard.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/5/531/788?pnum=31 for the details.

I am not happy about this.

Is Openly Accusing Anyone of Anything until the FACTS are in.

Milty, you Accused Sandy BEFORE YOU EVEN BOTHERED to speak with him.

Hey Milty, what would have been the result if any of those IPs you posted PUBLICLY online had gotten hit?

Sandy hasn't done anything wrong here, and you paint him, by implication that he has. That's BS.

Either Pony up the Evidence that he has done something, or pony up the apology for the accusation.

This is the first I've heard of DOS plans. No one I'm in contact with in talking DOS.

Don't go half cocked blaiming people here....an e-mail shared with Milton from some newbie who orignated on his board, well I'm a little more than sceptical.

Obviously this email is from an individual and has nothing to do with the "retros" or "neos" as groups.

Without drawing conclusions as to the real identity of the author, I've sent an email to the address included in that message making clear how very, very seriously I regard this as the owner of the website and domain in question. Whoever wrote that email has moral and possibly legal responsibilites and liabilities concerning these "cyber threats", and they'd best recognize that before things get (as they put it) "out of control".

if the email did not in fact originate from that address, of course, I expect that the addressee will so inform me.

There is no Denial of Service attacks that I have ever heard of planned against ANY BG site.

And as an administrator who has heard these threats before on another site I can tell you that those kind of attacks are weak and can be blocked. I know we are impenetrable by this kind of lowgrade hacker. I also know the FBI WILL go after anyone who does this kind of crap.

What the FRACK'S going on?

No one on any of the boards I belong to has ever stated such and idea about hacking. And I'd leave any group who even considered it.

The very accusation seems to be groundless and just seems like another attempt by group to smear another.

If there is any basis for this I hope the individual gets well and truly nailed. If this is just more mischief making well... I'd get banned if I said what I'm thinking.

Miffed,

Peter

This is what I see- an attempt to once again turn continuation supporters against each other. I see Summoner (supposedly, I'd rather hear it from him directly) stating that if Milton does not control his people, then there are continuation fans who will use illegal means to do so. This implies that continuation fans will use any means to forward our goals. Until I see solid evidence to back this, I will consider it to be baseless accusation made for the purposes of directing us against ourselves once again.

A transparent tactic, in my opinion.

Also- Warrior has asked us repeatedly not to drag offsite battles and politics here to hash out.

In regards to summoner, I see him as a provactive individual trying to get both sides to fight it out amongst themselves. He is relatively new to the scene and I don't think he should be categorized as either Retro or Neo. I have seen the e-mail in question and it checks it with his previous registration on ezBoard. The IP addresses match up so I don't question the authenticy of Milton's claim that the e-mail came from summoner. Until I see any evidence to the contrary, it is simply summoner playing off both groups of fans.

-this statement is admissable as intent to take action. Colonial Fleets will not become involved in a potentially legal and definitely private matter with no evidential basis. I request that all parties involved in this deal with each other directly. Any contituation of pursiut at this site will reult in this thread being closed.
