Going through the elections thread a BSG episode ( and a thought..I'm on a roll ) came into my head:

"Baltar's Escape"

Now I'm thinking of two scenes here. The first being when the council tried to present Adama with the Star of Kobol and Adama refusing, assuming it was a retirement award and the council really wanted him to go.

Then comes, later on, Adamas confrontation with Siress Tinia where she states:

"You are all good warriors. But what we need now are good diplomats".

Does this mean that the members of the council didn't feel that Adama was a good diplomat? And if not, why was he elected in the first place?

Any thoughts?

Re-reading my post it occured to me that Adama, being the only surviving member of the original Council would have become President of the new council. Duh.

But it brings up another question. Were the council members pissed because the council was operating under martial law and wanted Adama out?

The council wanted to restore civilian control via themselves and were tired of martial Law. We all saw what happened. When it went badly they handed command back to Adama.

I remember that Adama was the president of the council. I think he was a good deplomat, though they never really had a chance to show his deplomatic skill in the short run of the series.
