View Full Version : Held together by affection not obsession

That's the way I see it.

Moore must think he's with the Star Trek fans (and I'm not putting them down, because I am one too), but Galactica is not about warp drive engines and what does the red button on the Science panel do...it's about people...people we loved and grew up with. I know how I grew up, I would like to see how they grew up too...with the original actors.

I have always held Battlestar Galactica with the greatest affection, not obsession.

Too true, although at times we seem obsessed about it. We don't want to see it destroyed and remade into something we cannot connect to like the old show. In our fight for the show, we may come of as obsessed with BG night and day it like you say our affection for it and because of it!

Too bad Hollywood egos can't see that very real fact!

Many TOS fans weren't happy with Kirk's death. There is even a site at http://bringbackkirk.com

Belloby and KJ,

Very well expressed and so very true!

Why is what you both said and what we all feel SO HARD for the "geniuses" to grasp?

It's so simple. So easy. It's a shame that the folks that WANT people to like what they do, can't seem to understand...all you have to do is listen!

This is a great thread and all too true! Great love for something often comes off looking like obsession for those who do not understand or share it. But when you are a part of it, it's like opening your eyes for the very first time.

I wish everyone could see that love just once, even briefly. Then they'd understand.

Belloby: Your sentence is a keeper. Some do indeed think we're obsessed. Their narrow-mindedness, not ours. :p

Remember the TOS Trek episode. McCoy and Spock thought Kirk was losing it by pursuing the gaseous creature. In the end we find out Kirk is correct because the creature was heading for the most densily populated part of our galaxy.

Yeah, I do Kingfish.

It's all about interpretation of one person's actions. See, I still think Moore doesn't understand Galactica fans. We are a unique group. We are not as obsessive as Trekkers. Say one word that it contrary to their beliefs, their they jump all over you. Galactica fans are more open minded...more willing to listen and to think things through as to opposed to make snap decisions. We enjoy our show, we relish in it and we laugh and remember fondly not only the excellent stories but also the mistakes. I mean, nobody gives Richard Hatch a hard time for messing up on the use of the centon...it's ridiculus! We all understand the pressures they were under and we are thankful for what wonderful episodes they gave us.

I think this is the first time I've ever heard an outcry from Galactica fans on anything. And it's funny that we are not listened to.

But I think there's still another way we can make our Galactica happen. Just like Adama (my favorite character) I have the faith.

Agreed, Belloby. BSG is (or was) about heroes and villains, not techno-babble. I always enjoyed its refreshing balance of science AND fiction. You can suspend an audience's disbelief without bludgeoning them with the minutia of how something works. That's fluff, not substance.

It seems like everyone here, at one time or another, if they've been here any length of time at all has uttered a phrase something like, "you know what? It's only a TV show. I have a real life too." I think that is part of the difference between the affection we have for BSG and what really constitutes obsession.

Belloby and BST, (and a few others too!) well said!
