What extra's would you put on it? How would the back of the DVD read under, "Special Features?"

after I started tha thread.
1) Deleted Scenes
2) Vintage Interviews/behind the scenes
3) Current interviews/behind the scenes with survining cast/crew
4) Bloopers
5) Production Stills
6) Ship and costume details
7) DVD-ROM Feature: Pyramid Game
8) Widescreen versions where available
9) Inclusion of BSG: The Second Coming Trailer
The big question I would have though is if it were considered, should the deleted scenes be included seperately, or edited into the episodes. Also, If considered, would you want the original episodes untouched, or if the studio was willing, a refurbishment of the special effects similar to what George Lucas did with Episodes IV through V!?

Galactica on DVD Universal's or your own?
I knew this could happen, so once again i ask? what will the fanbase do. Yesterday people talked on it so, whats gonna happen. Some of you are already making plans no? or are mastering their own copies. Well looks like a good trip down to HMV or those "Second hand" shops to buy the best picture quality BG tapes looks to be a good idea right now.
I don't know what kind of picture a NTSC tape gives but my advice to you others on the otherside of the pond is get some PAL copies converted then master those instead. If anyone going to make any DVD or VCD Battlestar Galactica copies what else are you planning to do with them. Since Universal let us down i though up some good ideas if your interested.
* Master a copy of BG to DVD from a PAL tape to digital transfer or to VCD (VCD's should be easier to do)
* If it's too much bother to make menus, don't bother with it. You want Battlestar Galactica on DVD in it's best possible transfer that you can manage.
* If you can add little extras like, Sci-fi Channel Commericals, scan in photos, storyboards (found online) downloaded interviews or BG stuff off TV, Artwork, scripts (if you have them)
* Get hold of any alternate versions aired or played that you know of i.e. Telemovie versions, episodes without commericals etc.
* Get the BG CD soundtrack or LP and if possible, make up your own dukebox option to play music from the show! (Not likely but but a good idea)
* Don't bootleg your copies to other people! Your bending the rules just so you can have Battlestar Galactica on DVD or VCD. Universal could still come out with the boxset this year? (They damn well better!) Remember it's illegal, but bending rules without blatant breaking them is done all the time. Technically making recordable software then telling the masses of consumers what you can and cannot do is a "Double Standard!" You can make copies long as you don't mass produce them for sale to gain profit?
* Don't spend too much on them either. Making copies is time consuming and cost cash to buy discs and the right software. Just play around like all good fans do and have fun. (Quite likely you won't finish if Universal come to their senses)

I read your thread and brought it back for discussion. Cool idea. As for widescreen, I don't believe the show was filmed that way and as a result the fake widescreen version of the pilot was sold.

is a discussion with original writers/cast/crew about the Lucas lawsuit, if they are able to talk about it by now. Maybe a small documentary about Ancient Astronaut theories. They have one on the Special Edition Stargate DVD.

Back when you were in exile we promised Havoc315 not to discuss the copy processes on the last thread o.k.
Talk about the ideas here with Jjrakman post instead. It's better that way.

If you've got a widescreen TV you can make the show widescreen with hardly any cropping. It looks really good! :)

The pilot DVD is from a print of the 125 min. U.S. theatrical cut that played theaters in the spring of 1979. To accommodate the wider aspect ratio of theater screens, the 4:3 TV image was matted to a 1.85:1 theatrical image, which is generally okay since the TV composition left a lot of headroom (I suspect they filmed it with the prospect of the Canadian theatrical release in mind). Some of the special effects shots do suffer from the cropping, and John Dykstra complained loudly that his Galactica effects were never meant for the big screen to begin with (They looked fine to me when I saw it in the theater as a kid).
The irony is that when the theatrical film was released to home video, they had to crop the sides of an image that was already cropped at the top and bottom. As a result, the old VHS video shows much less image than either the original TV broadcast OR the theatrical release.
I'd be happiest if the new DVD set includes the uncropped, full-length pilot as broadcast on ABC on Sept. 17, 1978. Plus there's one deleted scene I'd like to see ... the infamous "shirtless Starbuck" launch tube scene that was reshot at ABC's request.

I would like original photos of the sets, from front and back and a companion book of accurate set blueprints, costume patterns and props.
And of course, a blooper reel!

All of the Second Coming trailers and all unused footage to boot and possibly Larson's Battlestar Atlantis trailer. if it still exists that is? If he showed it to friends and insiders his purely CGI trailer would either be rough work done of his planned out Pegasus storyline.
Or it was just a mere commerical like trailer advertising his version over Hatch's to gain back his Galactica copyrights. Some have even questioned whether it existed at all, no one really saw it no one did just mere descriptions at least Richard Hatch had pictures of his version. Either way both would be great to have on an offical DVD release from Universal? Question is would it really happen can it be done.

Hmm, never heard of a Battlestar Atlantis trailer! Anyone have a description?
Since Universal would be keen to promote the new miniseries I highly doubt that Hatch's or anyone else's Battlestar trailers would be included ... though the Buckaroo Banzai disc DID have a trailer for the never-produced TV series they tried to sell to Fox.
