If they actually are bringing the new mini-series into continuity with TOS, maybe they should hire an advisor so they don't FUBAR it. Mind you it already is FUBARed.

I could think of a couple of people... ;)

Either of these two would do for a realistic military approach if so called is a prequel, remake, or continuation. Both served their country in the Vietnam war. In fact Ermey had a role in Space: Above and Beyond as the drill instructior.

Funny you mention R. Lee Ermey. I was watching "Mail Call" last night on the History Channel, followed by "Conquest" with Peter Woodward. (I rarely watch television. I happened to find both shows when I needed to unwind last night.)

Can you imagine Ermey? "On your feet, you puke Warrior daggit-doo! Haul your pogees across the landing bay or you're cleaning the turboflushes for a yahren! Move it! Move it!!"

Dye would be interesting choice, given his background in the military and with Hollywood. Methinks the production already has a military advisor, though. ;)

I remember a while ago i said R Lee Ermey should be used to get the TPTB to get their act together to revive BG. Now it seem right he would get a role as a old Warrior to shape the new Warriors cadets into fighting fit form.

Cadet to another Warrior in the Viper simulator

Warrior: You dumb Caprican you shot me down, you're supposed to shoot Cylons dummy

Ermey: CUT THE FELGERCARB AND HAUL YOUR ASS DOWN HERE PRONTO BOY!

Ermey: You're Colonial Warriors not children you're supposed to be a unit made up of the best trained indivivuals to act as one fighting force in combat.

Cadet: Colonials who no longer have colonies?

Ermey: SHUT YOUR HOLE DAGGIT BREATH drop and give me 300!

Cadet: Piece of cake, Leo had the most extreme G-heavy enviroment of the colonies. In a Caprican atmosphere this will be easy?

(Cadet starts doing push ups at a incredible speed)

Ermey: As for you Borellian desert maggots grab each others ASS?

(Cadets all look shocked)

Ermey: Go on

They all grab each others asses

Ermey: Now in combat against Cylons you all fight as one, her ass is your ass. His ass is her ass her ass is his ass his ass is his ass? her ass is her ass her ass is my ass and so on!

In the background the mouthy cadet is up to 270 push ups!

Ermey: You poor sons of daggits have no idea do you? well you better get it real soon or that ass will be had by the Cylon. Commader Apollo need real men and women out there not jokers. *Sigh*

Ermey: Dismissed

Mouthy cadet: 298, 299, 300! done whew that was good. Whats next chief?

Ermey: Do it again son?

Cadet: (not bothered) Fine!

Ermey: Computer increase g-force field 20 times that of planet Leo

Cadet: WHAT!!!....

Ermey: You Leo's are the strongest of the colonies huh? That nothing to the amount of g's you will be pulling under combat in a Viper! Live and learn son, live and learn!

Nah if anthing R Lee Ermey done alot of roles other than military ones too and maybe he wouldn't take another drill instructor role so he wouldn't be typecasted if he did yet another one. Would be good though. That Connie Neilsen woman from that hunted movie was surprised the director of that film didn't use extras and was filming a scene with a room full of s.w.a.t. cops but didn't know there were real s.w.a.t. team cops used for the movie.

Would be good if the new Galactica did something interesting like getting real "Air Force" personel to film scenes as Viper pilots but thats a long shot. But the thought of it, is interesting getting the real McCoy and seeing how they would look or bring together a TV show has like Kingfish pointed out a genuine feel of realistic military approach to it all.

I wasn't thinking of a military adviser, someone to advise on Galactica history/mythology.

In that case they could consult Robert Thurston who wrote the original novels or at worst case senerio contact Glen A Larson.
