View Full Version : Galactica 80 could be changed into something good

You know, if a good writer took a look at Galactica 80 and had a look at all the unused scenes from the first season, he may be able to write something good and have the other scenes edited in. Troy said that his Father use to be a good warrior but he didn't come right out and say that Apollo was dead. The same could have been said about Starbuck and he was still alive. Plus Starbuck was thought to be dead at one point in the first series but it turned out that he was captured by the cylons. The same thing could have taken place with Apollo.
I wish some of the writers and editors here had access to the extra footage because with Richard Hatch doing the narration, I could see Galactica 80 becoming a continuation that we the fans could actually enjoy.

The Novelizations of the G-80 stuff actually made it seem pretty good.
If you kind of ignore some of the Super scout stuff you could have the basis for somting pretty good.
The initial premas of sending agents to earth to bring us up to snuff technologicaly while the fleet took off to draw the cylond awau aint really a bad idea.
And could fit in nicly with a continuaton.
Set it a century or so after the fleet discovers earth.
The agents left behind have been successful in seeding Colonial technology on earth.
In a shot time we are able to establish habatations on the moon, mars and even orbital colonies.
But regional and now planetary/colonial tensions lead to the outbreak of conflicts.
The reappearance of the cylons could play out almost like ID4 when they atttack but the return of the colonial fleet and the new alliance of nation states formed under fire gives the combined forces a powerbase to fight back against the cylon empire.

True but did he say that he watched it happen in front of his eyes?
Because being science fiction, anything is possible.
Baltar died in the movie version but lived on in the TV series.
Hell, for all we know, they could say that the cylons had some kind of technology that got Zack out of the viper before it blew up.
That might explain why he was never seen with the beings of light.
That's a stab in the Dark but it's a good way to explain why we could have Rick Springfield back and he could even be evil because we could have 20 + years of Baltar telling him that his family doesn't care and they left without him. Then when Baltar passes away, Zack takes his place.
Could you imagine Apollo and the others finding out that Zack is still alive but they are hampered in what they can do because he is still very well loved and the surprise to find out that he is evil too?
Or, do the human looking cylon thing but have the cylons create one in Zack's image 20+ years later to make the fleet think that he is still alive. This would at least create a guest spot on a continuation for Rick Springfield and it would be a great story.
Changing sexes and characters to something that you don't recognize and having one turn out to be a cylon, has little to no meaning but having this happen in a continuation as I suggested in the above, would be awesome in my opinion.

Larson originally wanted to set it some generations ahead but didn't due to the fact Lorne Greene wanted to take part in the show.

But making G80 into a part of BG will just upset alot more Galactica fans and cause confusion. Just as George Lucas did with his Star Wars Special Editions! Seems good on paper but sometimes an idea must remain that, an idea!
Wouldn't it be a better idea to uncover any leftovers of G80? Isn't it a known fact G80 was cancelled during the filming of the episode "THE DAY THEY KIDNAPPED CLEOPATRA" So isn't there any footage of scenes of the unfinished episode lying around in Universal's old film cans rotting away.
I would prefer a good old BG treasure hunt to find unused footage of the first season, but since OWD brought it up. Does anyone have any feeling about both G80 and "What if"... it could be intergrated into BG seemlessly thus pleasing everyone.
