Mushies were marshmallow flavored Tofu treats and or recycled soylent green.
My children, when little had vivid almost morbid imaginations.
I always told them I hoped it was the marshmallow with wholesome additives.

Part of the reason I asked, is that I found 4 eps on tape, and got a bit confused. Fire in Space involved Boxey programming Muffit to "sniff out" mushies, making me think they are something that apeals to kids.
However, in the Long Patrol, Starbuck offered them to Cassiopia as a romantic meal.
When I was a kid, I for some reason thought they were like Suzy Q's, but when I watched these tapes, they didn't look like cake
It just made me wonder.

I still find it interesting that there were plans in "Saga of a Star World" (the original pilot episode) to show unicorns on the livery ship as another nod to mythology. And due to starvation within the fleet, animals (in general) were quickly being slaughtered. Richard doesn't remember filming any scenes, although I believe it is mentioned within the book -- and I know the scene was discussed by the production team.

Unicorns are way cool.
Sorry, Flamingo girl, I know nothing about mushies. Always thought they were some sort of pastry or candy thing.
