i could not wait for the original series to come to dvd and i even purchased two sets so i wouldn't have to worry about ever not having the series to watch at my leisure. it was the huge cylon collectible head and i decided to rewatch the entire thing for the third time. here is the problem:

disc 3 with the living legend episodes[my favorite] will not play and jammed in my machine eventually breaking. My other disc 3 broke in two as well.

the other discs which played fine now have glitches.

dvd is supposed to last for years but these double sided golmonging things are pure daggit poop.

universal charged a huge sum for this series. imho why the use of double sided discs which are gold coated in some cases is beyond me because they don't stand up. Universal also packaged the discs in such a way that getting them out of the hub is an ordeal in itself.

Sounds like your DVD player is the problem, not the disks...

it is NOT the player since the discs wouldn't play on any of my dvd players. it is the dvds themselves and it is also the reason universal stopped using the discs.

Guess I got lucky then; I have the Cylon head pack, and they all work fine for me. In fact, I just watched the whole series again since I am working on a Warrior costume for NYCC this fall.

Actually, on further thought it most likely was you taking the disks out of the packaging, as I agree they are in there too tight. I'm always super gentle with my disks, taking extra care not to bend them as that will eventually distress the plastic to the point of failure.

I used my set frequently for my schematics and insignia/logo work and never had an issue.

You are lucky. I've got cracks and delamination issues with mine. I'm not a happy camper.

My first set (Cylon Head set) had a couple discs that wouldn't play anymore, and the disc holder cracked, broke, then wouldn't secure the discs anymore.

Mind you . . . I may have worn them out.

I bought the set when it first came out. one disc had a cracked hub, so I exchanged it.

the disc with "ice planet zero" had a bad sputter (disc manufacturing) and wouldn't play from the menu, eventually the hub cracked on 2 other discs and I accidentally scratched the side with "war of the gods" so it skips during the triad scenes.

my friend had a perfect set though and was gracious enough to let me make backup copies of the affected discs.

I had to exchange my set three times, before getting one without faults or cracks.

I have the Cylon helmet set, and I have yet to have a problem with it.

My only problem, is that there's not more episodes.

LOL!

I have the Cylon head set, and I can't wait to get back home, load up my external hard drive, encode them to movie files so I can watch them on my next mission.

Make backups and store the originals in a safe place. Its really the only solution if you dont want to replace them at some point.
