My 1979 Viper suffered an accident some time back- the left wing broke off. I was planning to reattach it when my Mother-in-law threw it out not recognizing as anything but junk (funny, the rest of the Viper was RIGHT THERE!!!)
Anyway, my Son likes it a lot, so I'm making a new wing. It's not going to be perfect (Heck, after this many yahren I can't even begin to match the colour!), but it'll do, I guess... I'm just not in the mood to go out & buy a whole bunch of expensive styrene sheets. It's being made out of an old VHS plastic case.:D

Is that a aftermarket canopy and cockpit, I thought all the 70's MPC kits had solid canopies with black decals for the windows.

No, I manually cut out the solid canopy parts & epoxied-in the clear plastic. Then I got a pilot from an airplane model & built up a helmet and slapped him in. If you could see closer, he isn't holding any joystick. It was the best I could do back then with my limited skills & attention span.:D

Okay, repairs complete.

Getting the colour to match was impossible being that the model was painted with Testor's enamel & the wing with acrylic (the new wing is different plastic). But, it came out good enough for my archival restorative purposes... ;)
It's really not bad, considering it was made by an impatient 19-year old raring to go out with his new first girlfriend.:rotf:
Here's a close up of the crude cockpit:

And here's my fleet to date: My 1979 in back, my 2010/2011 in the middle, and my latest from the diorama in front.

Well, I finally got the colour correct. For a $0 quickie repair/fabrication, I think it came out pretty good.

Honestly, I had a hard time replicating my sloppy 1979 paint job on that new wing!:rotf:

Just like the Fleet; keeping things together with whatever you can find.

Nice job! Does anyone know if a company still produces quality original Viper models? I've found ones from the new series that look to be ok, but I'd take on a baseship for a Starhound hanging from my roof.

It was either fix the wing, or look for solium leaks.;)
