...but I decided to launch one final blitzkrieg of detailing before calling it quits since I had put so much time into her already.

My paint, glue & model parts are put away.

Why thank you!:salute:

To clarify, I'm in no way sick of the majestic ship herself- it's just been almost two months of working on her that is making me crazy. I could literally make it a yahren-long project... there has to be a point where I stop, especially at this scale. If I had time & money aplenty, I'd build it from scratch in a three foot version, and include every frackin' detail! But that'd be like a $300 investment, and this build up of the Revell kit I already had from 1978 cost me only a total of $16.

I'm just proud to have a cool Galactica at last!:D

I completely understand. I used to build model sailing ships and, at some points, usually while working on the "rigging", I'd get frustrated to the point that I had to walk away and find something else to occupy my mind for a while.

Then, usually the next day, I could go back to it, refreshed and ready to go.

I still love to do them and actually have one still in the box (for a long time..... ). Maybe, some day soon, I might give it a go, again.

Serenity or a new Viper (I got the kit just waiting)... Serenity is a tough one, nearly as much work as Galactica.
:rotf:
15 inch Serenity-from-scratch price tag estimate: $55.
Viper estimate $9.

I may go with the new Viper....:/:

Do it! The results are so rewarding! Keep the kid in you alive. My Galactica was some 60 yahrens old when I revisited it (if I understand their time correctly, heh heh), and now I have another notch on my model-making belt to wear proudly.

I love this kind of stuff!

I have one of the Monogram re-pops from the late 90's in my closet, still unbuilt. I bought the kit with the intent of doing a bit of kitbashing to improve the quality so it would make a good display model. I really do intend to build it - meanwhile, I see builds like this that inspire me to pull it out of the box and give it a go.

There's a model forum that I hang out on called Hobby Talk. There's actually a couple of really wonderful TOS Galactica builds going on at the same time. There's one build where the guy basically cut apart the original model and made all new body panels with plastic sheeting to give it a more accurate look. He then went and did his own scratch detailing on top of that as well. I'm not up to that level of model building...

I wouldn't mind at least making an attempt to make it look better than the stock kit looks after it's been assembled and painted though.

For someone that's "sick" of the model, I'd say that the results were worth the effort.

Well done!

Bryan

Just for reference, here's the model as built in 1978, I had made a couple of small additions that I *choke* thought made it look more accurate back then...:/:

There's a small antenna on the 'neck' area that I had added (it's actually still there on my built-up version today), and two 'covers' over the side depressions on the 'head'.
Other than that, it was straight out of the box.

I missed MANY spots! I was working on a budget within scale.
