now that would be sweet to have one for the Original. I'd get one!!!

As would I, get one that is, were there one. Certainly help with writing stuff :)

However, my talents are somewhat limited graphics/artwork wise.

I did make such an attempt at one of these some years ago after I saw a Star Wars version. might again in a few weeks once my present projects are completed.

So for an original series version would you put all 12 colonies in the same solar system, having 'inner' planets and 'outer' planets?

Me! No! :).

I would put them around perhaps 5 or 6 Stars. I never liked the single system idea.

I had at one time notes of how I would have the systems set up. but as with much that I had . lost in a crash.

But I will be doing some BSG stuff in a few weeks , or Buck Rogers ... not sure which yet.

this is the way I'd go as well, not to mention this is how it's was implied in the series. I'd even go as far as have 2 or 3 of the colonies actually be moons on a gas giant. Imagine Caprica as Earth, Tauron as Mars Sagitara as Venus, then Picon, gemini and cancera as moons of jupiter. I don't think the colonies were ever refered to as "Planets" per say. have an astroid belt seperating the inner and outer colonies.

Any other ideas??

And I will say it again, I wantg one!!! lol

when I saw the star chart in the Saga.

I always thought or felt that the areas indicated by tigh where Stars and not worlds of the colonies but like a tight network of stars that where discovered by the people of Kobol and they setted there.

all the colonies in the one star system never felt right for me. perhaps you could have 2 habitual planets in one system.
(say Gemenese and Scorpians). but the other would need habitual zones or terra-forming that would have required time, (Lots of it too) and a dependency on one or two of the main planets.

No I still find all in the one system very limiting. but I know the script is against me on this

but that's only my view ..

I find myself agreeing with WarMachine, when he posted:

When JJR and I worked on the tech bible for the 14th Colony (14/CTB), our assumption was a single, trinary system, with several Colony worlds being moons of gas giants ('GG').

As to the radiation questions, in RL it is true that inside a certain distance, GG radiation is lethal to Humans - however, outside the band, lethal radiation falls off precipitously, leaving aside the issue of GG-moon Van Allen belts.

Although I don't believe we ever speculated on how there came to be 12 habitable planets in the 14/CTB, I have speculated elsewhere (have to find that link) on the existance of a "prep team" that went ahead and "fixed" (i.e., "terraformed") the rest of the 12 Colonies' worlds...

he does give a good reason as to the terra forming part :)

he does give a good reason as to the terra forming part :)

He does.

Logically, the original Kobolians were more advanced than the Colonials in fitting with what we know (Iblis: "your civilisation has known great rises and falls" [or words to that effect]) so the terraforming train of thought makes sense because they couldn't come across the perfect system or cluster, the odds are , err... 'astronomical' on that happening.

It's a shame JJR as disappeared into the ether, him and WarMachine would be the ones to crack this for any artists willing to take up the challenge.

Folks on other forums have pointed out that the new map by Mandel seems to be loosely based on (or at least inspired by) the original one:

I going to also look at this for the Colonial Fleets Technical manual.

I thinking now its going to be split into 3 different volumes.

The Colonial
The Cylon
The System

For "the system" I thinking of looking at both aspects ...

The single system
The Multi System

I favour the Multi system more regardless of Terra-forming idea for out worlds etc... But I want to look at both anyway. (respectfully Peter ) :)

For my thinking the Multi system looks far more favourably for having a long lasting war. perhaps even a thousand years. over (in my mind over single system).

I am going to ask some friends on other site unless someone here can do some photoshop work. ,,

anyone

If you are in need of such things, I can provide drawings for insignia, shoulder patches, badges, medals, etc. I made a photo compilation that can be seen here (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/insignia/BSG_Insignia.pdf) which I can easily make reproductions of using Adobe Illustrator, vector based, so they can be included in print-quality mediums, infinitely scalable without raster pixellation.

Feel free to use my schematics, too (I have vector PDF's available for all of them). All I ask is for name credit in the publications and maybe a copy of the final compiled work:

Colonial Nova-Class Battlestar (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/battlestar_nova.jpg)
Colonial Scorpion MkI (6th Millennium) Fighter (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/fighter_scorpion_mk1.jpg)
Colonial Shuttle Mk I (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/shuttle_mk1.jpg)
Cylon Base Star (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/cylon/basestar_cylon_mk1.jpg)
Cylon A.B. Fighter (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/cylon/abfighter_cylon.jpg)
Eastern Alliance Destroyer (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/others/destroyer_easternalliance.jpg)

On a lark, I also created my own custom design, the Star Kobol-Class Colony Ark (http://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/colonyark_starkobol.jpg) that the 12 tribes used on their exodus from Kobol to Cyrannus. Totally non-canon, but I was inspired to make the design for some odd reason.

These things have long been a passion of mine and have spent many hours researching (for those who have known me here and on other forums) and, ever since any hopes have been dashed on a remake of Sharon Monroe's "Galactica Stuff" (something I was planning on participating in until the project got caught in copyright/trademark hell) I would love the opportunity to contribute to this project.

Just let me know what you need.

To be honest you where inclued in the project anyway :) as the 3D model been used (or some of them) are based on your
work.

I will be building the Eastern Alliance Destroyer based on your
schematics. so I would like to included them all some how in the project.

I want in this to expanded the Galactica universe we know and love and to flesh it out.

in cgi we are not limited by budget only time and skill. we there is buckets of skill and I alas have the time.

your patches and insignias. please that would be great to have and one less thing for me to do. (I was going to model them) this is better.

Star Kobol-Class Colony Ark great design.. I can see that been
mentioned and I hope modelled and shown in The System edition.

the completed projects will be made available here in PDF for download and everyone involved get credits also in the Fan film as one leads to the other..

Those schematics are awesome!!!

Gonna do any for the DeSanto stuff?

Hey, Russell. Long time no interface! The only vessel I've seen from the DeSanto version was the Mk IV Viper and I haven't gotten to working on Vipers yet in general (were there other ships being made for that effort?).

I would still, at some point, like to work on an accurate Cylon Raider, as well as schematics for the more obscure RTF ships like Andy Probert's "delta" ship, among others. Other projects and life in general have prevented me from working on anything else for over a year now, unfortunately, but I would like to get back into it someday.

I just dread working on the Celestra. That thing was a floating pipe factory. :(

Many thanks.

Truth be told, its mostly one piece. I busted up my right hand pretty bad and it didn't heal entirely right. Its affected my writing and drawing skills but not my typing or sound editing.

My soon to be new wife is insisting that I let the ortho try to restructure it but the details remind me of the opening of the "Six Million Dollar Man".
