How did Classic BSG end in your mind?

In MY imagination, the transmission in Hand Of God was over 200 yahrens old, and when Earth is found by the Galactica, it is suitably advanced technologically to help destroy Baltar's invading Cylon army.
Yet the Cylon threat is not gone completely...

What's YOUR take?

AND- can anyone who read Richard Hatch's books recommend them?
I'd *love* to get & read them if they really tie up all the plot lines.

I like that idea. I also like the current time period idea as written in "Dark Exodus".

As for Richard Hatch's books, They seemed very non-cannon to me at the time when I read them (over 10 years ago). He put a lot of emphasis into the idea that Adama was directly descended from a "Pure Kobolian" bloodline and were therefore superior to most colonists. He also had ideas that the centurions had organic brains in their heads. I always felt they were 100% machine.
IIRC Apollo was automatically placed in command after Adama's death. This is more like a monarchy or some other similar system. but in the show it really looks more like a democratic republic. Although we do see "Sire" and "Siress" titles used for prominent people (not just politicians).

Overall they are worth reading. I did kinda like the idea that there was a ship in the fleet where crime was allowed flourish with an undergroud and black market. The idea was obviously inspired one episode of GINO. I also liked the way a particular Borellian Nomen was portrayed.

In my perfect BSG ending, it really doesn't matter what time frame they find earth, but ideally it would be a bit into the future, but not far enough that the Colonials would be shunned or would be outcasts. They would help each other, perhaps with the Colonials providing much needed parts to technology and the earthlings providing a complete history lost to the Colonials...

So after having wrapped up the finding earth part, we need to somehow get rid of the Cylon threat. I have always thought that since they were all machines, they found some sort of way to incapacitate the Cylons and in the end, the Cylons would be exterminated from the universe...

Galactica finds Earth eventually. Many of our friends have died along the way (but some remain, not like BSG80). Maybe around Earth's 25th Century. I was thinking, and it's been mentioned elsewhere, that the Apollo 11 transmission was yahrens old by the time it reached Galactica so the 25th Century could work as when it shows up and crosses over with Buck Rogers. I confess the idea of Erin Gray in a Warrior's outfit keeps that insane idea going.
-Though I do think Earth by then would not be a paradise. Certainly gone down the dystopian route though technologically advanced enough to provide some help if the Cylons had followed.

In the Glen Larson book for the saga. Adama´s Father was in command before him. as far as I remember.

IN MY IMAGINATION.. (I am just stressing this generally) :nervous:
when I tried to write my own fanfiction (uck) I also went down that route (before I read any of R Hatch books). and I will confess that the idea of great family's duty bound to create the great fleets and to lead if called for applied to me.

like Feudalism both political and military are represented through Adama from a high house, and perhaps Apollo after him. but not without him going through the proper ranks on the bridge and only with the ability to command.

Tigh while a
good or great officer never inspired me as a great commander of men. almost like Spock and Kirk in a way.. Kirk is a great commander and Spock would be at his side. but Spock would never inspire leadership as Kirk would. (who would you follow quicker,, I know I would follow Kirk quicker)

Baltar could also have been from a great house, but he went down a different path. Merchant (I think that what he was in the saga book ) and Political route greater wealth is made that way. which lead to he downfall

Cain on the other hand was not... he was born of common (if you will pardon the term) stock. he gain command due to skill and inspiration to his men. a Caesar like character moving his way up the rank through skill and cunning.

we know a little more about Starbuck... he would eventually become a Cain like commander had the chance arrived.

Boomer also a commander but perhaps in over all tactics .

I am not talking from there own personal wealth (perhaps part) but the taxes that the great houses impose to keep the fleets and the colonies running.

It is awfully pessimistic but even Star Trek Earth had gotten to the 23rd/24th Centuries after a couple of big wars -WWIII, Earth-Romulan to get to its state of 'paradise'. In short I don't see Galactica finding an Earth like the one we have now.

I've read one Hatch, and that was his third one, so I can't comment on them properly. Though it just seems natural Apollo succeeding Adama eventually just by way of his rank and position rather than being Adama's son.

reading the Saga again, Adama´s Father was in command before him and gave him command when he stepped down.

The journey continued, they survived, they found earth and I wanted them to meet my generation of earth inhabitants so I could meet the Colonials and see what space looked like!

The Galactica would arrive at Earth near the end of the of the 23nd century,
around the year 2285. They would have left their home system in the Earth
year 2253.
The Earth they arrive at had undergone 75 years of technological
rebuilding after the end of a 50 year long anti-technological movement.
During those 50 years, Earth had cut contact with its' deep space colony
Terra Base (established in 2116-See "Experiment in Terra") and had stopped
development of a "Third Stage" hyperdrive. The 75 year Tech-Renaissance
which followed allowed the hyperdive work the be finished. A new deep
space colony is established but is destroyed by forces unknown.
When Galactica arrives, it is soon discovered using the colonys'
last garbled video that it was destroyed by the Cylons. With a common
cause, the Colonials and the people of Earth band together to build a
new Battlestar fleet. Equipped with a new super-fast hyperdrive, the new
fleet along with a refitted Galactica embark on a new mission: to defend
Earth, and to take back the Colonies.

I was right with you until going to take back the Colonies. I would not go for that myself. I would have them go back but to see if any other survivors could be found and get them out.

I would not go back to the Colonies unless the war was won and the Cylons out of commission.
you then (I am not a military man) :) but you would have a battle on 2 fronts and a massive supply line.
then would the people that have spent perhaps a generation in cattle cars what to go back... Earth is there a place that has been a place of desire for those same generations etc etc ...

Going back to the Colonies would be suicide but interesting. Battling into the hinterlands. Imagine returning to the Colonies and all the planets abandoned, wrecked...the Cylons mysteriously vanished.

It's been mentioned but I do like the idea of the fact it hasn't ended, that somewhere...out there, you know, far beyond the heavens, Galactica's still finding Earth.

And you know, it's not too late. I think all Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica fans should pitch in, hire the actors of both, and have the great Battlestar/Buck Rogers crossover and final battle against the Cylons!!

Wouldn't be too bad even if it was some animated thing though somehow I like the idea of Anne Lockhart and Erin Gray in the same scene (Gray maybe in Warrior outfit) or fail that Buck vs Starbuck in terms of rivalry.
