View Full Version : My first ACTUAL 3D model build...the battlestar Galactica made with Blender

Hi, guys,

I haven't annoyed you with WIP stuff because I wanted to just spring this on you when completed. It took me about 5 days to make (and a LOT of hours at the keyboard and mouse).

But here it is, my very first actual model mesh (not an iClone schlep together), but an actual model built in Blender, (a very powerful 3D modeling app...and it's FREE!!!!) and then ported over to iClone for animation use. I'm pretty proud of it. I picked a mother of a first ship to build to, since battlestars and star destroyers are among the most greebled physical models out there.

No, she's not photo perfect, and far from a Steve Wilson build (God rest his soul) but I did add as much detail as possible, and mostly I used my Konami 2 inch Galactica miniature for reference, as well as some online photo references. All things considered, this turned out quite nice.

I hope you all will enjoy these stills.....I do plan to put this ship into actual animation very soon.
I had made nameplates for Galactica, Pegasus, Atlantia, Columbia, Solaria, and Rycon. So I have six battlestars in my fleet.

I hope you'll like this :)

Thanks, maudib.
It's nowhere near as detailed as your project, that's for sure, but it'll serve my purposes.
Keep up the awesome work on your battlestar. It's looking GREAT!!! :)

Steve, a little advice. When you build the next model try and get into beveling some of the edges of your mesh. It will catch the light much better and show a more realistic vision. I'm not familier with blender but i'm sure there some sort of beveling plugin. Put a couple bevels on your nurnies and you'll see a difference.

Good luck!

:)

Aye, I'm quite sure there is...in fact, I might actually be able to bevel some of those edges on the current model, since some of it I still have saved as individual components. I will admit, I am slightly dissatisfied with some of the edges for being just so flat and right angular. :) Thanks, Don. :salute:
