Thanks guys. Glad you like the shots so far.
Actually the battlestar is a mixture. I unfortunately could not get yours to open on my system, so maybe some day! The one I'm using is made up from Steve W's (the front), mine (the landing bays) and one from Foundation 3d (can't remember the builder's name, but he will certainly be given credit... mid and thrusters.)
Hopefully I will have more this weekend to add, or even a short video clip.

I do have the model in each of it's different sections, if that could help. Frnt, Mid, Engine, LBs.

I could try it in the separate pieces. I'm working in C4D, which imports Lightwave really well, however in one piece and on my computer (which could use more speed and memory) it wasn't able to make it.
I've been using the model above for the story, but if I could get yours to work I would be able to use it as well and it would fit into the story. Actually could work really nice.
Let me know what you think. Don't want to inconvenience you though.
Many thanks,
Dave

Is that Battlestar going to be called the "Cerberus" or anything?
Would be sweet if you could tie it into the Maximum Press; "Baptism Of Fire" storyline! If Adama, Tigh and Cain serve onboard as Viper pilots, is the Commander of the ship, 'Odysseus'!

Those names just might come into play. Although one of the characters you mentioned are not featured.

Thought I'd add a few more pics in progress. Down to the battle part so I'm working through this shot by shot. Hopefully the rough will be done relatively soon and then I can finesse the rest of the the shots.

Well let me know what you might need from me to get the model working for you. Unless you have decided to run with the other one. No probems.

The model is working and that's it in the images (the newest ones). The separate pieces worked great and was able to get it running in Cinema 4d. The images at the very top of the page was the previous model, the 3 shots with the battlestar above are all yours. Many, many thanks for letting me use the model! It is looking great in the animations. I especially love shots where it passes over head and we see the bottom of the battlestar, as we did not get many of those shots in the original series.
And my apologies as I thought I had PM'd you that I had gotten her running... but I must have gotten caught up in something else and it slipped by. 'Doh!

dave how did you do the astroid field ?
David Kerin
October 11th, 2009, 09:59 AM
Well... looks like I have the rough cut together and the final runtime (including intro and end credits) is just under 18 minutes. Now comes the time of going through and finishing several shots that need completed (there are shots duplicated in their place right now until they're done) and refining all the other shots, such as backgrounds, adding lasers, explosions... what ever each one needs. And of course the sound effects and music, which is quite a fun part.
Took several more stills to add here of some of the new shots.
Also... Taranis... the asteroid field is a cloned array of a few different asteroid shapes mixed together. Actually found it in some space background templates created by someone else and adapted it for this. For some shots I rendered a full 3d pass so they move past the camera. Others I rendered various stills from different distances, then composited them together in After Effects as needed. This way it lets me create different shots in a relatively short period of time, and part of doing this project is to see what can be done, and with what techniques, to produce something in a relatively short period. The way I have done this so far I do think its possible to produce a few of these animations a year if I had the solid time to dedicate to it. However work, freelance and of course family have the priorities.
Can't say for sure how much longer the rest will take, but its a good bit closer.
And Ernie, I'll of course be sending you a copy for the fanfilms site. Just let me know what format you prefer. I'll also post to youtube, but that will have to be broken into two parts as there is a 10 minute max.
Peace Earthlings!

.avi is a pretty universal format I would have thought.....
Please keep us updated !

I was thinking the avi might be a bit big for the web. At full resolution its over 3 gig for the 18 minutes, so I'll make it 320x240 and try a few different codecs that may make the size a bit more web friendly. Or maybe full res using the xvid codec may make it more web friendly.

Ok, MPEG 1 may be better, but check the codec is available with operating systems. I get asked a lot about why when people play a video, they only get sound, and that's caused by the DivX codec.

Yah man!
That looks awesome!
:D
You've set the bar pretty high.
After Effects is a fantastic tool for the lone animator.
I'd be lost without it.
You did some outstanding composite work with it.
I was entertained the entire time, so Bravo!
I gave ya 5 stars on YouTube.
