View Full Version : Post here to pledge support for an ad in Variety...

I ask that only serious supporters post here, although we will probably get a few telling me how stupid an idea it is.
Well, let them talk. Those that support the real BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will feel that this is a worthwhile endeavour. I will look into the cost of the ad, and I will post that info when I have it. Also, when we have evaluated the responses at the end of the week, we will see about how to go about raising the money for the ad.

Yes , I feel the same way. As long as we have enough people to come forward and make it feazible, then I'm in. Being in Canada, I would have to mortgage my home just to make up 20 American bucks. If I had a home. lol

Lousy dollar of ours. he he he

Just incase some one wants to contribute to this but wants to remain anonymous.
There should be a designated person for them to get a hold of, then they will be counted as a number because the higher the number, the closer to the goal we get.

I can't do it because of all that I have on My plate now but the person in charge of this should be the contact for such people.

So somehow I don't think you want me involved :)

havoc did you actually read what Dan has stated in his post?

"I ask that only serious supporters post here" and "Those that support the real BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will feel that this is a worthwhile endeavour"

If you want to make a mockery of this then please do so on another thread.

To Dan I will have to check my financial situation after the New Years but I will donate what I can. Thanks for looking into this.

I was not making a mockery of anything, I was quite serious. I do support the "real Battlestar Galactica".... but I admit my opinion about what constitutes the "real Battlestar Galactica" is a bit different than what is being intended in this thread. Furthermore, I am quite seriously willing to contribute, if the advertisement were to take in to account all the views of people who "support the real Battlestar Galactica," myself included.

That means, to me, an advertisement embracing what we loved about the original BSG, and not simply a public bashing of RDM.

The ad that I would like to see would speak out-generally-against what Ron Moore has come up with. It would in no way be a public bashing of Mr. Moore personally. The ad will push for a continuation of the original series. It will-in all likelyhood-refer to the idea of mixing original castmembers (namely, Hatch, Benedict, Jefferson, Lockhart) with new, younger ones. I would like to voice support for Tom DeSanto as well, but that would not happen without his expressed permission.

Mr. Haven's negative review, in combination with Michael's, has given us the ammunition we need if we choose to advertise the fact to the movie making community. I agree with what you said, Dan, but an ad without something of this nature would basically be seen by those in power as a group of fans whining that they weren't getting their way. Now, we have a recognized critic AND one of the chief proponents of Battlestar Galactica both critizing it, so such an add takes on meaning. Being selective in the quotes (Mr. Haven's "not worthy" statement is one), combined with our request for a continuation, and a few illustrations, possibly from our excellent artists here on this board showing what could be done, could carry some weight.

It is a nice ad, but I am not sure how effective their message is considering the way their main text is written:

from the ad

"...Put it together...you got a Firefly. Thing'll run forever they got a mechanic that's even half awake."

Yes, that IS the way it was written. I would guess that an IF is missing, though it could be something else. It is either an example of poor editing on the part of the group writing the ad, or, if it is quoted correctly, it is an example of some poor grammar on the part of the original writer, script editor, or production staff. Either way, it might make some observers laugh off their effort rather than take interest in supporting it.

I make little (and sometimes LARGE) grammatical mistakes all the time, as do most of us, so let's make sure we proof our ad better than this before it is in print.

P.S. I've already edited this for a grammatical mistake...after proofreading it in advance!

By now, I'm sure most of us have read Michael's open letter to Universal studios. I think what is contained in that letter is exactly what most of us wish to communicate to the studio. Why not use this text in an ad? I spoke to Michael off-line and he is not opposed to the idea.

The clock is ticking and we need to turn up the heat. We have the text and we have the talent. Let's get this thing done!

I would suggest using the Fan Force site for hosting this effort.

Any thoughts????

PS - I'm willing to put up at least $300.00 to get this done (bye, bye year-end bonus).

did you post this idea to Nathan's site also?
A few more people involved would help with the costs. Firefly folks spent a little over $3 grand on theirs. I'm good for $50-$100.

Layout is on me if you like (and the FedEx to get the Ad files to Variety). I could use the help of some of the CGI folk though, if it is legal for us to use any imagery of theirs, or if we can use old publicity shots from the show: I don't have those either. Somebody better know the wording for the legal disclaimers/"we're not infringing on your copyright" stuff, though. Repcisg??? Michael???

Going to look at Michael's letter again. Hmmm.

The Trademark and copywrite stuff can be addressed by giving full credit to the owners. This could be done in fine print at the bottom of the add.

The art work should be our own guys & gals, they deserve the exposure and credit.:D

Oh, Michael (or David K. or ANY of you other 3-D gurus: H-E-L-P on the CG stuff. (Like you need one more thing to do, Michael, LOL. But I can only deal with stuff I can layer in in photoshop I can't turn stuff 3-D and I don't know who or what to ask for). For starters: Anyone got a 300dpi BSG Logo with any size to it?? :D

OK, Nathan's putting this in the Colonial Newsletter this weekend.
