Mary -
There was never a name given to the 13th Tribe in the original BSG, not to mention any of the novelizations or later versions of the show. At least, not one I've heard of or read about.

Agreed. To the best of my knowledge its not a term I've heard used before in the BSG universe. Maybe I've missed it, but it doesn't spring to mind.
I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it !

It's pronounced "O-fee-oo-kus". It translates to English as "snake-holder" -- which, given Minoan artwork (http://www.ancient-greece.org/images/museums/heraklion-mus/images/154_5465b_jpg.jpg) would be as good a name for the 13th Tribe as any. :)
But no, I've never heard it used in CBSG, either.:?:

Indeed, I touched upon this subject a while back now about the name of the 13th tribe.
Ophiuchus is known to be the 13th zodiac, and means the Serpent Bearer in mythology.
Isn't it befitting our Lord of the world, Jesus Christ, is the Lord who crushes the evil serpent, and therefore fits the legend of Ophiuchus?
Fascinatingisn't it? I think Larson would have eventually brought this into the show if only, it continued.
Great link, Skipper!

Nah -- it's a scam to boost sales of ephemeris' and new tattoo's. Seriously: http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/13/no-your-zodiac-sign-hasnt-changed/
The hullabaloo is over the fact that the Solstice will occur in Ophiucus during 2012, and too many people with too little knowledge of the subject are up in arms, trying to make a buck off of panicking people...very bad karma....

The funny thing about all this is I discovered this sign probably about 5 years ago when it occurred to me, "Hey, I wonder if there is a 13th sign of the zodiac to match the 13th tribe?" Sure enough, I found it, and I made my own NuBSG banner for that 13th colony which I named "Ophiucon" (before they established that they were Cylons from Kobol). Here's my banner:
