Trek's Abrams Updates Progress

J.J. Abrams, director of Star Trek, posted on the movie's Facebook page that the film should be locked next week, only a few days after its original release date of Christmas. The movie's release was bumped to May 8, 2009.

"We're just making final tweaks to the movie--we should be totally locked next week," Abrams wrote on Dec. 22. "Then we're going to flash-freeze it so it's totally fresh for you in May. I can't wait for you to see the movie. The cast is awesome. The action and effects pushed the stunt team and ILM beyond their limits. I'm so grateful to this cast and crew--and to all of you for your interest and patience. We'll continue to update this page with new info and exclusives, so check back when you think of it. In the meantime, have a happy, healthy, fun holiday!"

It looks alright so far. I have my reservations with a new cast playing the characters I love...but there seems to be a lot of respect for the original series going on. Apparently the story is canon so they'll have to explain the differences through the story. If you've read anything about it (don't want to spoil anything for anyone) this might be possible to do.

I have some reservations too, but seeing how J. J. Abrams pulled off a pretty decent Mission Impossible III, he might just make some of the old Trekkies happy. Though the film is going up against Wolverine which opens the week before, and Angels & Demons which comes out the following week. For me it's definitely worth seeing opening weekend, though at matinee pricing.

Heck, I'll go to the midnight premier! That way if it sucks I can complain about how much money I lost as well!:D

Hopefully it'll do well and we'll get more Star Trek out of it.

Nathan will be paying for the taxi fare, movie tickets, popcorn and drinks.

(That is non-negotiable.)

Thank You! And if you want to bring two children to the next Star Trek movie, I will be happy to pay for the kids as well. But we need to work together and make sure they don't disturb the other folks at the multiplex.
