I saw the notice, but wasn't going to be available and didn't have time to reshuffle things. It's kind of like sending to an email to your friends the same day you decide to have a barbeque and wonder where everyone went...

At least 24 hours notice would be sufficient - and polite.

I don't see a problem with advance notices or scheduled chats.
I think it makes it easier for people to meet in the chat room. :)
We also don't have to always schedule a chat too. We can just look in the chat room and see who's tallking about their belly buttons. *just kidding* :D
