View Full Version : Could use a friend right about now...

A funny thing happened on the way to work today...
Got up & ready for work, did the usual routine, left my apartment, walked out to the parking lot to get into my truck and......NO TRUCK! Someone had stolen it!! My baby! Bought it brand new and have had it for 13 years. What would anybody want with a 13 yr old pickup?

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone right now. Took the day off to call the police, insurance company and get a rental car. Got a headache and can't really eat anything. I'm pretty ticked off and depressed about this. Kinda need a friend about now...

Well, Steve, you have a friend in me, mate. I may not be there with you physically, but I am there with you in spirit. And I may not be a real Private Investigator, but I do consider myself somewhat of a detective at heart. So if I were there, I would most likely be out looking for your truck. Don't give up hope. Your friend...

Oh hon!
I'm so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now.:(
I know very well how you felt about your truck. This is just a lousy thing to happen to a good person like you. I'd be holding the astrum up against a wall right now with my blaster held to their head, if I could for you.

Sweetie, don't give up hope like Cy says. It could still be found and be hopefully returned to you. You're in my prayers, Steve, you know that;)I'll send a request for Archangel Micheal be at your side to aid you in all you need.:wings:

Don't let it get you too down. Indeed this is not something you needed, but try to keep positive, my dear friend.
I'm here if you need an ear, always! Come talk to me if you need someone:rose:

Okay Steve, we are in the same area...if you want I can come by and pick you up and we could take a trip around if you like. Let me know if I can help. I've said a prayer for my friend.

13 years, man...I hope to have mine at least that long. I bought mine brand new too in 2005 and I KNOW your were attached. Again let me know...I'll keep my Yahoo Chat open for you if you want to meet up later. My Yahoo ID is klingongeneral.

To everyone, Thanks so much.
Just to update: No news yet. SDPD has not located the vehicle. I'll let you all know how things are progressing.
I've had a little time to "deal" with all of this. Started networking with my Sis and friends here. Asking everyone to "keep their eyes peeled", as it were, when driving around. Sis has a few contacts with the Border Patrol (among others). They say it's more than likely still on this side of the border. They are keeping an eye out for it though.

Not sure what condition it's gonna be in. Could be in pieces at a chop shop or could be abandoned somewhere. I'm hoping for the latter. Glad you remember the truck Dy. (that did sound a little dirty...kinda like how the truck was. ) Thanks again for everyones support, well-wishes and prayers. It has helped and is deeply appreciated. :salute: KG, I just might take you up on that most generous offer my friend. I will be in touch. ;) :salute:

Yes I am fond of my truck. When Nissan came out with the Hardbody, I fell in love with the design (Not unlike the first time I set eyes on a certain spaceship for the first time 30 yahrens ago... ;) :D ) One day I said I'm gonna get one, and I finally did. Knew exactly what I wanted on her. V6, 4WD, 5 SPD, Xtra Cab. Got her brand new. Here's a pic if anyone is interested. This was taken about 3-4 years ago. Still looks and drives awesome. Not bad after 13 years.

Beautiful truck, my friend. I hope they catch the thieving frackers who stole it, and return it to you with all due haste. (In the same condition is was in when they stole it) You are in my thoughts.

Its always tough when some thieving daggit takes your possessions. Leaves you feeling violated and might angry at the same time.

But when its a man's ute (=truck) then its personal, and hell have no fury like a car lover separated from the object of his obsession. (except perhaps if you harm his dog or serve him warm beer. The 'missus is negotiable.)

Hope they find her in a recoverable condition.

Every sympathy,
Lara

Thanks D. Your thoughts are appreciated. I also hope she's north of the border. At least there would be SOME possibility of recovery. If she's south, there's a snowballs chance of getting her back. I'm hanging in there though.

Latest news: The truck is still listed as stolen. Has not been recovered.
It's not unusual really. Might take two weeks or so for someone or a patrol officer to notice a "new truck" in the neighborhood that hasn't moved. Also a little bit of luck helps.

Sorry to hear that there's been no recovery of your vehicle yet, Steve. I only wish I could help somehow. Just know that if I were able to find the thieving frakkers who did this to you, that I would show them how it feels to lose something that they love.

Hello All,
Hope everyone is well. Thought I would update this situation for those interested. My truck has not turned up as of this writing. Last Wednesday(8/20/08) I got a call from my Insurance Co and they offered a settlement amount if my truck was not found. It was a VERY good offer. After a bit over 3 weeks and no leads on the truck, I decided to accept their offer. Also, my car rental coverage was just about up.

On Thursday(8/21/08) I went to the bank to set up a pre-approved loan and initiated a car search thru my bank to assist in my search. Later that day, I stumbled into a dealership nearby to see what they had. I purchased my last truck from them so I had a history with them. Turns out they had ONE truck that had all the criteria I was looking for, at a ridiculously low price due to an end-of-year-clearance sale they are having. SO, the scramble was on. Get the check from the Ins. Co., get to the bank to deposit the check, get back to the dealership and seal the deal.
That same night I drove off the lot with a new 2008 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4 Extra Cab Pickup 6 spd manual trans. with the "suicide" doors. It's a deeeeep Metallic Red color. Looks sweeeet! Will have pics a bit later.

Personal note: It's funny, a couple of friends told me throughout this whole ordeal that sometimes something good can come out a bad situation. I have thought about this over the last while. Maybe there was a reason this happened.
As a believer in God, I feel there could be something to that. Too many things lined up for me for this to be just a random event. The timing of the theft, the settlement amount from a 13 year old truck that allowed me to put a sizable down payment on the new vehicle so my monthly payments weren't going to kill me, the 1 available truck at just the right time during a clearance sale for an awesome price. Looking back on it all, it kinda gives me goosebumps. I feel damn lucky and blessed.

Finally I would like to thank all the people here at Fleets for their support, prayers and well-wishes throughout my ordeal. Words cannot express enough how much that means to me. I am truly touched and blessed to have friends such as you. Thank you all, I shall not forget that. :salute:
Best to everyone.

Hello All,
Update: I just received a letter from the San Diego Police Department. It was sent from Loreto, Baja California, Mexico (by way of the Texas Department of Public Safety,El Paso...???) to the SDPD. It states that on 10/08/08 my old Nissan truck was located in Loreto, BC, Mexico and the vehicle is in custody (I'm guessing the Police Impound/Holding). I'll be letting my Insurance Company know that Law Enforcement has found the truck (as I am no longer the title holder) and has notified me (last known owner) of its whereabouts.
Well, one mystery solved...kinda surprised they found it actually. I'm just wondering what condition it's in. :/:

That's true. Perhaps it's better not to know. But I understand your wanting to now all the same. Did you have any valuables still left in the truck when it was stolen, Steve?

CBSG4ever
October 13th, 2008, 09:44 PM
Not really valuable exactly Sarika. Just had a bunch of audio cassettes (truck had a cassette player... ), some were hard to replace. One in particular, the Original Pilot Episode Soundtrack to one of my favorite shows (maybe you guys have heard of it...) Battlestar Galactica? (Ouch!) I had about 40 cassettes of various artists in it. A collapsible shovel, flashlight, jumper cables, etc. Wouldn't mind seeing if some of it is recoverable. I know, wishful thinking. :D

Actually BST and Aphrodite, this may sound strange and a bit selfish but, in a way I do hope it IS a total loss. I bought and paid for my truck brand new (one owner...me) and took care of it with a great deal of effort. I think I'd kinda like it to stay that way.
I think it would really tear me up to see someone else driving around in my old truck. That would be just too weird for me to see and hard to deal with. In my mind I would still think it's my truck that someone else has. Does that make any sense? So, I kinda hope it's not salvageable. I'm OK with this, honest. :salute:

Thanks for the hugs Athene. :) I'll never get the old truck back though. The Title belongs to my Insurance Company. Had to relinquish ownership of the old truck to get the reimbursement check for the new truck. ;) Still not sure yet as to the condition the authorities found my old truck in. I plan to give the Ins. Co. a call later in the week.
Ins. Co. said that if anything were in the truck that was of a personal nature, they would definitely seek to return the items to me. Not very promising, but it's still something to hope for. Best to all.

Glad to hear they found your old truck. Hopefully you will get back your belongings. Especially the BSG Soundtrack. I know what it's like to lose a soundtrack. I had the soundtrack to Top Gun when I was in the Navy. After returning home from overseas I was in an accident and was in the hospital for several months. When they packed up the things from my locker, that tape was not among my belongings. Hopefully you will get yours back.
