Re-post from Tombs of Kobol:

What could possibly cause such indifference? I simply can't fathom it.

Although it won't bring her back and although I'm sick of this lawsuit-happy culture that we find ourselves in, I'll make an exception this time and wish that her family will sue that hospital for every penny they can get.

Arlene,

No offense intended toward your remark about suing the hospital. I posted the original remarks at TOK prior to reading your post, here.

That is indeed despicable.

*I'm going to stray off-topic for a centon...*

Also, what's despicable is when people sometimes get really angry and lose touch with the saying: "Intolerance will not be tolerated".

:salute:

*Goes back on-topic*

Indeed, the family should seek justice and compensation for their loss.

none taken. I just feel so sorry for the woman's family and the horror that they are feeling over this.

Appalling would be another word. Looks like the poor woman had a hospital gown of some sort on meaning she must have been admitted in and waiting for care. I wonder if this borders on a criminal act. If it is then someone should not only get sued, they should get prosecuted! Totally uncalled for. Horrible. I do feel badly for the victims family. My condolences go out to them :( :rose:

If I may stray a bit off-topic. This was a city-run psychiatric hospital. In other words: Government run. (i.e.: Socialized Medicine?) I'm wondering, is THIS the example of health care they are attempting to ram down peoples throats? If it is, then God help us all. There had better be some checks and balances installed. In this particular case, a complete overhaul. Having to wait 24 hrs in an ER for care? Ridiculous!
Sorry for my rant. I'm done now. :salute:

No need to apologze, Steve. None at all.

Any wants to rant about this, go for it. It still sickens me to my stomach...

There are a couple of reasons for this.

1. Good Samaritans can still be sued if things go wrong.

2. The mentally ill get short shrift in this society. Nobody wants to deal with them, nobody wants to pay for someone else dealing with them.

3. Charity wards never have enough money to operate at an acceptable standard.

Yes, this is a perfect example of socialized medicine at work. There will never be enough money - unless and until qualified medical practitioners forgo salaries - and so the more socialized medicine becomes the less the quality of care we receive. There should be indigent coverage, but the system now is build on socialist principles.

The people in charge of the ward, the employees who walked past her, the people responsible for doctoring the log, all should be prosecuted and never allowed near a care facility again - once they're out of prison.

My husband was incensed when he saw this in the local paper last night! He couldn't believe that no one helped her before it was too late! The staff in that waiting room that did nothing to help that woman ought to be fired for their inaction!

That made me really angry when I saw it.

I'm glad they were fired.
