vista: Bloatware in the extreme sense of the word.........I mean, how many processes does XP have going when it's finished starting up, versus the number vista has?

I'm not fond of Vista myself. Way too many bugs. I work with computers for a living. I myself use XP and am happy with it. I haven't had to reload my OS.

Question: If you bought a new PC, and it has Vista on it, would you DELETE Vista in favor of XP? OR would you do what I did?

probably either delete it or go dual boot.

Darrell Lawrence

..umm That was my question... which of the two  I did the dual, which is the second half of the Q ;)

The Q though was to Athene.

well, if given a choice, I'd prefer to go dual boot, but, that's just me.

*oops* I would probably delete Vista and go with XP until all the bugs of Vista are worked out.
I hope I answered that question right. My brain is rather fried today.

He's just teasing me! It's OK. ;)

And there in would be a huge problem :)

Delete Vista until it gets better would mean you'd have to BUY Vista (again) to re-install. Vista doesn't come with install disks. It comes on a partition on the hard drive.

A dual boot means you can leave it there and not use it until Vista is stable :)

I think Darrell is teasing both of us, and doing various poses in his uniform to boot...

I also back up Vista and other OS's on disk. I have done that quite a lot. I can do that in my sleep. ;) I'm a computer tech/instructor/IT. I eat sleep and breathe computer. Been in the computer field for 30 years. I'm known as "The Computer Guru " :D

I've also done the dual boot myself.

Very, very true. But I'm never going to call you that...

...unless you ask me to.

:salute:

Should we toss a few tomatoes at Darrell up there?

I also back up Vista and other OS's on disk. I have done that quite a lot.Well, that's good! Especially if you have a disk that can hold the entire Vista restore info, if you have deleted it off its partition. :)

How the heck did this get turned into a flirting thread?

StarshipTrooper

You know, one thing I've always liked about you Darrell is your ability to set boundaries!

:rotf:

Can we please get back on topic? Thanks! :salute:

Now...we're supposed to be talking about Vista + XP.

Right? Darrell. ;)

Might watch Alicia Silverstone in Clueless.

*Just teasing...*

I like Vista, and it continues to get better now that Service Pack 1 has been released. But I always like to compare Vista to the psycho ex-girlfriend analogy: Pretty on the outside (Aero Glass GUI), but something entirely different on the inside (Product Protection Platform anti-piracy technology).

That's on-topic for the most part, right?

once you turn off aero and UAC, and implement a few tweaks, vista runs pretty darn good, helps to have a 2.0 ghz dual core processor, and 3gb of ram, of course.

and, for the record, a dedicated 3d card of some caliber is a definite MUST, for best results.

under the hood, its surprising how much of XP survived when they coded vista.
