Because last year our host suffered a catastrophic hardware failure and we had to reconstruct the site from the ground up. The only thing saved was the database for the forums, which meant anything uploaded - images, meshes, etc. - were lost.

Fortunately, most of the gallery had been backed up off-site, but a lot of the images that others had uploaded to the forums were lost.

That's why.
