Sales estimates don't look especially good for Classic Battlestar Galactica #1: it debuted at #118. For an "independent" company, that's probably not a horrible number but most comic series see a decline in readership as of #2 and often continuing on after that.

Bummer. I hoped that this title would go through the roof. That way, the powers that be would be able to see how strong the fan base is for the original series. If sales were really strong, the thirst for new stories with the original Battlestar Galactica would be clearly illustrated. How has Classic Battlestar Galactica fared against the gino comic book? Which sold better? (I am sorry to say that my guess would be the book that has horny cylons in it.)

There'd be a lot more positive word of mouth generated if they'd done simple continuation stories. But their attitude has become intransigent to the point of childish on this point, and I have given up all hope on Dynamite to ever do this right. If it fails, I will shed no tears for it.

The sales for the other comic aren't much better. Number 1 (39,000), #2 (26,000). This is down from there 25 cent #0 of 175,000. I think they also advertised and promoted the hell out the one for the new show, it even had a preview in TV Guide. I'm waiting to see how 'CYLON APOCALYPSE' goes. The guy that's writing it sounds like a big fan like Tom DeSanto.

Actually (and I do so hate saying this...), considering the current state of the comic book market, the gino version sells considerably better than the classic and is most likely considered a major success. DC and Marvel dominate the top 100, and although it's not especially a rare occasion that an independent breaks into that group it's still a major achievement--and with exceptions, titles routinely see dropoffs from #1 to #2. IMO it's to be expected that a comic based on what's on TV today would out-perform one based on our dear classic BG; hopefully the numbers are good enough for Dynamite's plans to continue with both CBG and Cylon Apocalypse.
