Probably one of the best sleeper hits of the year!

I want to come back and give a review of this sequel hit *without spoliers of course* in a few days time.

Needless to say, go out with friends and see this flick 'NOW' asap! Cos its about time we had some real creepy ass movies like this to watch. Which is dramatic and suspenseful as well as original and interesting. Just make sure you see the first film before hand so the enjoyment here is doubled. I'd rate this way over all those boring cliched slasher/psycho movies with predictable storylines and heroes save the day type genre horror movies.

There is no way to say which film is scarier to other folks. But being creeped out and made to feel uneasy is the new horror here folks. And thats much easier to do than try to outright scary somebody.

After this, i want to now check out the Japanese originals! :D

The review

Incredible follow up to the first Grudge movie which is necessary that it be watched before this sequel movie starts up.

As it is a great sequel to watch in all its glory knowing what came before and what will indeed be continued in this movie for newcomers.

Unlike its Japanese original, this story is not only has its original tale to continue on from the last film which was closer to the original Japanese version. But is also directed by Takashi Shimizu do did the original Japanese version of Ju-On the Grudge movies.

Quoted outline from wikipedia for those that don't know of the first film events:The Grudge is the curse of one who dies in the grip of a powerful rage or extreme sorrow. Those who encounter this murderous supernatural curse die and a new one is born, passed from victim to victim in an endless, growing chain of horror. The following events are explained in their actual order (which differs from the order shown on film). The film follows three main storylines. Aubrey Davis (Amber Tamblyn), who comes to Japan for her sister Karen, three schoolgirls in Japan, and an American family in Chicago. The film opens with intertitles describing characteristics of The Grudge.

Events of the first Grudge are covered here at...

Continuing on from the events of the last film. The character of Karen's sister Aubrey, takes centre stage of this movie as she travels to Japan to bring her sister back home to the states. Unawares of what her sister went through, and possibly cos the sisters had a previous falling out. Aubrey initially doesn't want to go but does, only to find that Karen for whatever reason due to the cursed house (Kayako and Toshio's) that her sister has gone insane or be that paranoid and is held in a hospital.

While i could comment on it, detailing events that happen in this excellent but unnerving film. There's no way to do so without proper spoiling it for others. but i will comment on the fact, that this is a kinda must see movie for those who truly tire of hollywood's usually hyped up slasher flicks with superhumanily strong types who kill for supposedly stupid i was bullied pretty badly or i'm messed up type of horror films etc. Ghosts are back with a vengeance, and the end of this film will truly have you on the waiting list for the Grudge 3...?

Those peek-a-boo moments in this flick are refreshing, rather than the predictable he/she's there build up only to find out that this film's directed in such a way that it'll throw you off, and you'll guess wrong most of the time. Kayako and Toshio's ghosts are working overtime in this movie, and i won't spoil it for those wanting to see this film. But it is nice to know and a rewarding experience that this is a movie where you can forget about the those heroes/heroine types who save the day? You'll be surprised its just about normal people who end up in this particular cursed situation and are trying to survive it. Its basically downbeat dispite advances made to understand the "cursed house" and its former occupants. Even if this is a Japanese remake, the fact that its a hollywood remake of a Japanese indie horror that works coming out of a western film studio usually getting critised for making hyped up multi-million dollar crapola is once again a refreshing surprise.

As is whole 'out of sequence' filming styles, that begs for you to 'PAY' close attention to whats going on. As the story can jump back and forth. But in this movie its done with style. Thus the scares can come at anytime and usually pay off when they do. So when a scene suddenly jumps from one to another, adjust to it quickly cos its done for a reason. Like 'Pulp Fiction' this movie and its predecessor wouldn't work if everything was in chronilogical order.

Another is the fact its not as gore infested as others to make $$$ dollars but is dramatically shot with a purpose and is genuinely unnerving even for a PG-13 movie is a strong sign of some talent behind this baby. Sam Raimi is credited as producer of the Grudge flicks, but i'd have to wonder how much influence he's having in these movies considering he's doing the whole Spider-Man 3 gig.

And yes the end of the movie ends similarly to the first one but with a much darker intent. And will practically beg of you, mutiple questions and make you wonder whats in store for the Grudge 3 when it happens?

9/10  (Go see this film NOW!!!)

But see this before hand!
