This movie about 2 generations of Coast Guard rescue swimmers deserves to be a sleeper hit that does very well on DVD.
Was quite pleasantly surprised by this movie. Both Ashton Krutcher and Kevin Costner play their roles well. Just the right mix of action, pathos, love woes, tragedy, fun, humor and suspense. My spouse called it a Top Gun for the Coast Guard but it's a lot less swagger and a lot more about inward motivations focused outwardly into the work. All without losing any action. I give the film editor 4.5 of 5 stars too for some sequences intended to be flashbacks and I really don't want to know how they shot some of the rescue footage. The plot held some things I didn't expect so I'm giving it 4 of 5 for story too. It shows how the Coast Guard folks live up to their "so others may live" motto without making it flag-wrapped and sacharrin.
