Hey everyone,
I'm planning to write a game (pc platform) based on the original series. I've done something like this before but the project came to a halt due to lack of recources ( I'm a programmer (C++) not an artist !

Would any of you be willing to work on such a project ?
It's a hobby project so the game will be released at no charge at all (making money on this would be illegal anyway) and maybe it will be Open source as well, giving other coders the chance to add things to the game

This means I cannot pay anyone, the only payment you'll get is the honor of working on the game and offcourse a copy of the game itself.
Offcourse there wil be a credits page.

features:

- Realtime strategy
- Random Universe but colonies as they where
- 2D for now (3D if it suits the needs)
- Hardware accelerated graphics

I'm not only looking for artists !
If you can write senario's, write music (ambient !) make cutscenes, intromovies or anything else that could be used in such a game then please join in ..
(Offcourse coders can join too)

If you go 3-d, I may know someone who could contribute art.

One of the arms of my company is making 3-d computer games. One of our artists is good and fast and PRACTICED at creating lovely low-polygon models for 3-d environments.

Maybe (and I mean MAYBE) he might be convinced to help with a few models or something.

3D is only possible if I find at least one other coder (that will be too big for one man to code) AND if everything can be modelled so I'll need at least 2 modellers for that preferably more.. With just viper, shuttles and raiders a game (even 3D) would be verry dull.

However even for a 2D game you can use 3D art only it's prerenderd than

Now that is something I would love to see. Another BSG game. :)

OUr company did a game called "Desert Rats". It was basically a "drive your jeep around in the desert, shoot Nazis, and meet mission objectives" game. It was 3-D.

I often wondered if it were possible to replace the jeep with a landram, the nazi planes with Raiders, the foot soldiers with ILs and Centurions and turn it into a TOS Galactica game. Add some egyptian motif junk in the desert and it'd be pretty cool , I think.

You'll just have a shooter in a BSG jacket I'm affraid.

I was actually planning to make something with depth in the BSG universe.. including exploration.

more of a mix between 4X(Reunion,Ascendency,Master of orion) and RTS(Dune 2,Command & concous, starcraft) , If you know these genres

That means a VAST universe to explore (I already have the code to generate a random universe 500*500 cells every cell being 6 screens "high" and 6 screens wide :D (in 800*600)

Good luck with your project. I know how hard it is to do a BSG game/TC single handed, and I'm working with an existing game!

Sorry I haven't replyed before now, been busy with sheds loads of other stuff. In response to your question, yes I'm a modeller. I'm no texturer though IMHO. Oh I sometimes create a good texture, but it's rare.

I'm working (albit slowly) on a TOS BSG Total Conversion for the space flight sim Freespace 2. But with just me working on it (since all the others in the FS2 modding forum I visit are all wowing over a GINO TC  ) things are going slowly.
