It would seem after years of waiting, Lucas is finally about to give in and give those of us who hated the changes, and who hate the whole prequel universe what we really want The SW trilogy as we first experienced it, and how we will always remember it best. :

Eric,
The link doesn't seem to work. :(

Now that is real odd, because it says "page recently deleted." I wonder if someone jumped the gun on something he wasn't supposed to say today?

Probably somebody from the Lucas camp released something he/she wasn't supposed to. You know how secretive George is, he probably found out and had it deleted. (or it's all a ploy by George to screw with us by giving us a taste and then take it away.)

Oh, I see what it is, they didn't want somebody else breaking the news. Here you go:
Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD (http://www.starwars.com/episode-iv/release/video/news20060503.html)
Those rascals are starting to tick me off, though. I already have the newer versions on DVD so, if I buy the set coming out in September, I'll have duplicates. What about having a set with just the originals, not both?

Whew!! About time..my video versions aren't holding up very well, and a 'classic' version on DVD is well overdue..
Now if he'd just released these before, we all would have parted with the money sooner (when the price of DVD was higher)
:D :D

evil_genius_180,
I understand how you feel but, let's try to keep things PG-rated, ok?

From how I read that, the good news is that the films will be sold individually and not in a box set...

Heh if so then Lucas ain't going to be providing much extras is he?
And i guess he smelled money with another release so close to Star Wars' 30th anniversary around the corner coming up next year. Funny how the date is September to December and not next May of 2007?
Hmmm guess he wanted that house in "Fiji" after all huh and he needed to make some quick payments fast....
(Speaking to his business manager over the phone)
George Lucas: What another $15.000.000 deposit again, but i thought i had this signed sealed and delivered already?....what, no no Coppola didn't want it so he told me.....yeah.......no no its mine. (long pause) Yes i'm sure,.......what....Peter jackson now wants it. cripes no!
Business manager: Yup thats what he said he wants a piece of that house in "Fiji" so buddy unless you get a downpayment plus deposit on it fast it going to be gone. Ah don't worry about it you're george lucas aren't you.
You practically swim in money as it is, Hahahahahah! laters
[Slams phone down]
George Lucas: Damn! what am i going to do? Merchandise money from the Star Wars prequels is cooling off, The TV series is costing me another small fortune. Son's going off to college, Daughter's planning another baby thus child support going to cost a ton of money. Skywalker Ranch needs another tax extension to the government so i gotta keep the I.R.S. off my back.
Hmmmm what am i to do?
(Rick McCallum walks in the door)
Rick McCallum: Yo George whats up!
George Lucas: I need to put down another $15.000.000 deposit down for a house in "Fiji" costing me up towards $240.000.000 million dollars. Merchandise money from the prequels plus the EA games, original trilogy, DVD/VHS sales, Indiana Jones saga, Young indy, running ILM, Star Wars TV series development, my family's personal affairs, son's college plans, taxes for the Ranch etc.
All need the money besides this put into them. I need to make even more money Rick? Before Peter Jackson, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Ted Turner beat me to the punch
Rick: And here i thought you had more money than God? Ah well lets see......Hmmm its a toughie. What.....about i got it??? (light bulb goes off in McCallum's head ) What about finally selling off the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD finally? Since the 30th Anniversary coming up and all
George Lucas: Hmmm no wait i've got a better idea.
I'll sell the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD finally since the 30th Anniversary coming up and all!
Rick McCallum: But i just said....
George Lucas: Well had to happen one day, glad i thought of it first, being so original that i am and all. Sales from that should cover it? Well Rick snap to it give the order
Rick McCallum: Yes sir!
(Rick McCallum george's number one "yes man" slinks away and the Imperial March music plays as George looks out the window from the Skywalker Ranch)
:D
Yup thats what happened alright! :rotf:

That's because he will be springing the super duper extra extra extra special editions 6-pack of movies on May 25th 2007!!!!
I wonder if George takes direct deposit. I can just direct deposit my paycheck to his bank account cuz' that's where it's going anyway!!!
evil_genius_180

No direct deposit required. He just comes in with a big vaccuum cleaner and empties out your account, no action on your part required.

First up today, Video Business has just posted a story on the Star Wars DVD issue. There are some quotes and comments in there that are probably going to piss a lot of you off. According to the piece: "[Lucasfilm] felt there was little need to invest resources into sprucing up films that have already been restored to pristine form." Says Lucasfilm spokesperson John Singh: "The late '90s theatrical versions represent George's vision for Star Wars. We hoped that by releasing the original movies as a bonus disc, it would be a way to give the fans something that is fun. We certainly didn't want to be become a source of frustration for fans." Well... so much for that idea. The story further indicates that Lucasfilm is going to be contacting its fans directly (probably via their Star Wars.com website or their e-mailed newsletter) to explain the situation. In other words, their corporate spin machine is about to start telling you why they're doing you such a big favor, and why you shouldn't care that the original versions of these films are being handled so shoddily. Nice. As much money as Lucasfilm rakes in from Star Wars, you think they could treat their fans (and their films) with just a little more respect.
So Lucasfilm's Radioland Murders is going to be anamorphic widescreen on DVD... but the ORIGINAL versions of the Star Wars films will not. How do you like them apples?

IMHO save your money.

I'm sure George Lucass will fijnd some way to screw up this so-called original release and then blame the dark side. Seriously, I will be buying this for sure......what's it called again......the re-release of the previously released release of the original release.

I would actually like to see a release of all three films with all footage added(minus the CGI stuff). If it was in the script and is on film, it should be inserted. This won't happen, of course. The closest we have is the radio dramas(especially SW), which I thought were pretty good.

AN OPEN LETTER TO GEORGE LUCAS:
Dear George,
Thanks for giving us the greatest saga of all time and thanks for raping your loyal fans out of every penny they've worked for because you think we are all mindless sheep that will buy any junk you feed us with the Star Wars brand stamped onto it. You tease us by finally releasing the original un-cut theatrical versions of the Star Wars films on DVD with shoddy NON-ANAMORPHIC Bantha poo-doo quality transfers directly from the 1992 Definitive Collection Laserdiscs and you think we will all happily buy them and it will shut up all of us whiny fanboys like a politician giving a lollypop to a child while you laugh all the way to the bank. You, Sir, are the epitome of GREED... or to be more precise... YOU ARE GREEDO!!! THIS is the reason why Han shot Greedo first!!! You can take your non-anamorphic HAN SHOT FIRST crappy DVD's and eat it! You have become the evil Emperor your films have always warned us against and that makes you a hypocrite! I will be boycotting these DVD's with a Rebel Blockade until you preserve the originals with the artistic integrity and respect they rightfully deserve for history's sake.
Gone he is... Consumed by the Dark Side!
Yoda would be ashamed!
O.K. which one of you lot put that up on amazon.com :D
I love it when fans tell the unbridled truth about things like this.

Translation: - I'm George Lucas and i'm a greedy money grabbing bastard, now you ["expletives"] mindless sheep pay up and give me more money for my brand new spanking house in Fiji.
I've got one hand on a huge sack of money and the other is a middle finger flipping you sad people off for hating my CGI filled do-overs of Star Wars but buying them up anyways. So buy the DVD's, listen to my spin doctors er....Lucasfilm representatives and horde that cash over pronto.
Isn't that what he is more or less saying? ;)
No sir i don't like them apples at all.
