Models for the Blender 3D Appliction from www.blender3d.org

Currently there is a viper mark II at the Blender model archive and I just finished a Cylon raider and hope to start to work on a conversion of the full-sized versions from Lightwave.

Blender's native LWO support is for version 6.0+

Last version of lightwave I have is LW 5.6 for Alpha (yep I still own a DEC workstaion)

Will post shots as I go along.

Cool :)

Any Blender Galactica models you want to add to the Downloads, feel free to (after you have the 5 posts troublesome access, that is  )

BTW, I know others will be reading this, so may as well announce it here-

Tomorrow two new Lightwave os Cylon Raiders will be available: Conversions of David Moss' Raider and David Kerin' v1 Raider (v2 following in the next few days).

The TOS Galactica shouldn't be a problem. I just tried the reimaged in the Lightwave 5.6 format and it just didn't turn out right. If anyone with lightwave version 6+ can import and resave the file as a .lwo in 6.0+ format, that would help a lot. Blender's LWO + Materials import script works pretty well. It's not perfect, but overall does a nice job as you can see by the Raider converted from a LW 7 mesh.

I do have a friend with LW 8, and I'll see if he can't import and save the file for me.

It's not too hard to do covserions into blender these days from many apps, but still most people who do them don't share them, which is a shame. I am waiting for permission from the original Cylon raider I converted from to post my conversion of the work.

Actually, I'll re-convert the original nuG Max file into LW 6+ format for you :)

I have the TOS Viper and TOS Galactica models imported from Truespace to Blender's native format. Both look pretty good. The TS basestar didn't quite work. I'll look at the other versions later this week and see about cleaning up some meshes and adding some features: like the moving glowing eye for the new Cylon Raider (working on an animated texture).

Getting the new G into a useable format would be of great help. Thanks very much for the assistance.

Blender is cool

As you use Truspace, will any of these help?

Those will help.

I'll be posting stuff here in about a month or so. I'm extremely busy helping my Dad out with some stuff on the farm. So that's taking up my weekends and then I'm getting ready to move for work & eventually grad school in the next two months. So I've already done things like cancelled the Cable & HSI at home. I'm getting a new laptop in less than a month so I'll upload the files next time I'm at the fav. coffee shop.

Warrior, I've already converted David's 2nd Raider to LW, the one with the crew, I'm just checking it for any errors, I did rebuild a couple of bits and make a couple of new UV maps for some parts, I also knocked the polycount right down as well, I was going to contact David to see if it was ok to upload it once I was certain it was all ok.

Here's a pic of it:

Do you want to check it over too, see if I've missed anything?

If you've already finished your conversion, I could always upload this over at SciFi-Meshes instead, and you upload yours here.

Cheers

Billy

Blender changed their animation engine a few releases ago and I really never had time to go through and figure out where everything is and what all the new toys do. (Lightwave was my primary application at work)

Anyrate: here's my first stab at the moving cylon raider eye:

http://www.blenderxgrid.com/cyloneye0001_0250.mov

(Quicktime Sorenson 3 Codec)
~120k

This is a quicky animation with no AA, no blur, no RT. I keyed it to move back and forth, although I did so in 30 frames and that might be a little quick. Blender's extrapolation curve though made it go in one direction like a light house....

Upload yours here too. More the merrier.

Glad I was reminded I said I'd upload mine, cuz I forgot to

I hope you were able to eliminate the "double" meshes in the way he set his up in Max for texturing?

Yeah I managed to get rid of all the double sided stuff, and rebuilt a few parts that didn't look to hot when loaded into LW, remapped a couple of the parts so the textures looked better and I also put the pilots onto a different layer so they can be removed if they're not needed. I'll package it up and upload it later today.

LOL, the site hosting my image has disappeared, which means half my freebies over at Renderosity have gone too, I'll have to sort that out too.

Cheers

I am waiting for permission from the original Cylon raider I converted from to post my conversion of the work.I forgot to ask- Which Cylon Raider did you convert?

Darrell Lawrence
June 14th, 2006, 12:19 AM
BTW, billy- there is little difference between David's v1 and v2 Raiders other than v2 having the Cylon pilots and a detail here and there :)

June 14th, 2006, 12:11 PM
Your right there mate, next to no real difference, though v2 seemed a bit neater when I converted it, I also meant to add I have nearly finished converting David's Viper, the one with the pilot, with that one I've put the pilots body on a separate layer, and his head on another, so it could be animated very basically for mid distance shots, and I'm still trying to work out a simple way of adding something to simulate the Turbo thrusters.

BTW Unimatrix, nicely done with the anim, I've just done an eye one myself for the new series Cylon, I've now made it into a looping animated gif file where the movement goes left and right before it starts over, then I used it as a texture on the model, I'll try a small render see how it works out, if it's ok I'll post it here for you guys to look at

Here's the gif file I was talking about, in LW I made it illuminated and added glow to it, I'll post a small anim of it later on, anyone who wants to use this is quite welcome to, I think you should be able to download it by right-clicking it.

LOL, I've just realised, it was the original avi file I used, not the gif, so it might not work in LW after all DOH!

The Raider currently at lw3d.org....

It's much later than I thought it was so I'm not sure if I'll get to the Cylon raider tonight, but I have something else to show:

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/4817/bigtestrender3ru.th.jpg (http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bigtestrender3ru.jpg)

I don't normally model anothing other than stuff in my own head because I really suck at it...but I got tired of looking for a Nu basestar...

Darrell Lawrence
June 15th, 2006, 01:01 AM
Someone had sent me a piece of a nuBasestar they were working on, but I lost who it was (due to my PC crash a few weeks ago).

They were having some edge problems that I couldn't figure out for them.

Unimatrix

I need some high res images of the nuBasestar's central Axis...I've scoured google images and thus far haven't seen much.

Anyway more eye candy:
As far as I know this is the first rendering on the net of the TOS Galactica and Basestar in the same scene produced in Blender 3D.

http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/4555/twooldfoes8kc.th.jpg (http://img159.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twooldfoes8kc.jpg)

And how does one add files to this site? I can upload the TOS Galactica, TOS Basestar, and TOS Viper for Blender 3D...however none of them are textured. Maybe by the end of the year if I get this eleusive "free time" thingy...

You've been able to download, right?

Simply go to the category for the model and click on the ... ummmm either "Add" or "Upload" button.

just ran into a little problems when the application's section had the options between LW5 and LW7....and these are blender files. Don't folks downloading stuff, opening it up and asking: "What the heck is a .blend?"

Darrell Lawrence
June 25th, 2006, 10:23 PM
Cripes!!!! I'm glad you ran across that. I didn't realize those were the only formats. Ugh. I'll have to fix that tomorrow (finally get a day off).

I upload directly, so I never paid attention to that.

As a fellow blender head, I am glad to see someone using Blender to do Galactica models....

Now if we could just get a Raptor :)

I got Coxxen's models just about complete and ready for download for blender at blendergalactica.com.

You'll have to register and wait a day for me to approve the grouping because phpwebsite got the site up and running quick and dirty, but really hasn't advanced much since the last time I used it about 3 years ago.

Visited blendergalactica.com, could DL my own model of the Galactica without any problem, whitout any permission, without any credits, and without any credits in the zip file

Unimatrix

The credits got packed into Blender's text editor which is part of the .blend file. In fact, if I had the time to actually apply all the textures, everything would get packed into the .blend file. I'll dual pain the default screen to show it so when people first load the mesh they see it.

The problem with the log-in is that my host doesn't allow uploads of more than 2MB via PHP. Frankly the entire site is a temporary solution until I get the joomla based site set up and ready to go...which in another couple weeks...
