You need a converter to make those LW 7 format mods friendly with your software. I have the same issue, but a converter solves all. :D

Try here for LW tuts, and of course Newtek

Does anyone know of any good converters to change lwo format files to obj?

The best of them are Deep Exploration & PolyTrans so I've been told, I've got Deep Exploration and it does work pretty well, though it is a bit expensive, Lightwave can also export to obj as well and now has a plugin that exports the mtl file too. Cinema4D can also import LW objects and also exports to obj.

If you let me know what models you want converting I'll do them at this end and upload them here if you like.

Cheers

Bryce and Poser only use the first Lightwave format..Just download a free copy of
Exploer 3d to convert your files.

I've been looking for a Battlestar Galactica site like this for years. I've just ordered a modelling tutorial for modelling the 1970's syle Colonial viper. I'll post pic of my work in progress as I work through the tutorial. I use Lightwave.

Welcome panadar, looking forward to seeing how you progress with the tutorial, if you need any help or tips both Warrior & myself use LW too.

Thank you very much! I'm really glad to be a part of this forum. Cool. I'm just getting back into LW. I just upgraded to v9. i just couldn't resist the special. :rotf:

The first I will work on is the landing gear for the Viper. I've often thought that was very cool. i want to tuse that as a prototype for landing gear for other spaceships I design. Then I'll start the spaceship.

I use www.lwg3d.org a lot. They have a bunch of really good stuff.

You fellow think Lightwave or Autodesk is better?

I personally prefer Lightwave, but as with most things it's a matter of taste with the individual user.

One more question do they have Original Raider here?

If so, where can I download them ........link?

There's a couple of original design Raiders in the Downloads section here, both in MAX & LW formats

Hi. I am new to this forum. I just want to say that I have tried some of these models and they are realy great. Very detailed. I am the author of a program called 3D Sci-fi Movie Maker which can import 3d studio models and animate them. If anyone is interested in trying out some of there models in this progeam, go to my website:- www.galacticsoft.co.uk. There is a 3d converted that will quite happily convert lightwave and most other formats to 3ds.

I would be happy to hear any feedback from anyone.

In my experience, Bryce won't import anything higher than LW 5.6. I grabbed Polytrans to convert them either down to 5.6 or to another format. (Be aware that converting can lead to texture problems)

I prefer Lightwave myself. Fullgrown CG package. Awesome modeling capabilities. As for resources: lwf3d.org is a damn good place on the web. Good example meshes fantastic community support.

There is always a bit of work involved in adjusting Lightwave or any objects in the conversion process.

the only time I tried to convert .."well lets just say it ended up looking like its was involved in a head on collision".

Extacly why I don't do it anymore sman1, unlesss it's like Steve or wil's stuff, which is worth the effort.
I can't improve on excellence, just make them available to folk who can't convert
It's like my Poser Cylon, it took 4 months to build it, tell me if there is even anything close to it out there, it may not be 100%, but at least here you guys realised how much went into buillding it, and told me how much it meant to have it, makes the whole thing worth it............

DAMN I'M STILL A DALEK.......DOH!.........WARRIOR........HELP......EXTERMINATE....ERM....EXTERMINATE... ERM....BY YOUR COMMAND......ERM....OH WELL......BY YOUR EXTERMINATION.....BY YOU EXTERMINANTION......Now I'm confused....I think.....I think it's time for bed

Does anyone have a good model of the new series viper. Not the older version in the show but the newer one?
Thanks ahead of time.
