I'll write up what each one is about later.

earnie, before you ask, that Cobra and Viper one is the OLD animation of it. I still plan on re-doing it with the newer v2 Cobra.

All the Viper anims will be redone as well with my newer, more accurate Viper (the one in these is Don's old Viper)

Warrior,

Great to see these animations. Unsurprisingly you predicted my enthusiasm...!!!

Its great to know you will re-do these to make a fanfilm, which without doubt will knock our socks off. I eagerly await being able to add it to my site.....

Still Hoping :)

Ok ok... I'll write it up now

Shawn, yes I did do these myself :)

1. The Basestar- The Basestar will be coming into an orbit immediatly following that shot. The reason for re-doing that particular shot: The "moving straight ahead" motion isn't as smooth of a transition as I'd like form the camera rotation angle.

2. Chase Test- This is a portion of a planetside Viper/Raider battle. The problem with that animation is the Vipers themselves (gonna use my updated model as well as the Cobra) and the Viper weapon blast effect.

3. Cylon Test- Cylon Raiders returning to the previously seen Basestar.

4. Viper and Cobra- Last portion of that planetside Viper/Raider fight from before. Gonna redo with updated models.

5. Viper Exhaust- A part of the Viper/Raider fight. This was a testing of the exhaust effect. Well... you can see how it turned out :(

6. Vipers Planet- The Vipers chasing those Raiders that were returning to their Basestar. Guess what happens when they catch up? :D Redoing with updated models.

Well here it is. The trailer for Darrell's Shattered worlds.
It's only the second time I had ever put sound to video so if it stinks, thats why. lol

...uhh How'd my animations get squished?

Sending you a PM.

Good question. LOL. I'm still new at this so I don't have a clue how that happened. Something must have been set to wide screen or at least that would be my guess. I'll go back and check. :)

Is Shattered Worlds still in production or has it been shelved?

If it is still ongoing, when do you hope to complete the project?

Darrell Lawrence

Still ongoing. OWD just did a practice trailer with my practice animations above

As for completion time, ...ummm no idea. Gonna be a while though.

Good to hear the project is still progressing.

Will this be an all CG feature or will it include live action?

Darrell Lawrence
April 8th, 2006, 06:58 PM
That right there is the big question

I'm gonna get all the main CG done first, then see where I stand with it.

If it's viable and doable, then live action is preferred.

I preface this by saying I’ll be busy with 14th Colony through the end of November. One of the goals of my film is to show people what is possible and hopefully garner enough interest from folks to make Battlestar fan films. Although 14th Colony will probably be the last Battlestar film I will helm. I will make my self, costumes and props available to almost anyone making a film.

So keep me in mind.

The main thing here is the full sized cockpit to put the real live humans in :)

Yeah, I have my own cockpit problems here. ;)

Yeah, I have my own cockpit problems here. ;)

Have you tried filming your actors in front of a green-screen and using a virtual cockpit?

This is a piece of footage from Battlestar Callisto's Ensign Annie composited with a render of David Kerin's Viper v2, here the footage wan't shot with a green screen but it still worked out reasonably.

Hmmm not bad, not Hollywood perfect but pretty dam good when did they do that?

My plan is to shoot a cockpit mock up in front of a green screen.

This is not an official Callisto release, it's just something I threw together as an example. With more planning of the shot (lighting and camera angle etc.) you can come up with much better results.

I was impressed to see this test sequence.

Although I still feel a cockpit mock-up will provide a more realistic sequence, and help the actors to get into it more...

hmmmmmmm.........interesting.....

Darrell Lawrence
April 10th, 2006, 11:58 AM
With that, it'd be pretty darn hard to do, given I wouldn't want to only do straight on shots :)

This technique is not limited to static frontal shots. As I said in a previous post, with planning you can achieve much better results. You can definitely have a wide range of camera motion.

Remember that the sequence was only a rough example, the original footage was never shot with the intention of compositing and the render of the viper was very basic.

Don't think I am trying to put you off creating full sized props, I prefer real props and sets to CG. If you'd rather go that way I (along with many others) would be very pleased.

I think it was cool with the action in it of the Basestars and the combat between the Vipers and Cylon Raiders
