I just found this poll for voting on your favorite sci fi show. GINO is in first place with the original Galactica a long way back but I assume that the position of the original may change if the fans are more aware of the poll, so pass it on. :)

Don't forget to do this from a mobile device (like a Sidekick) if you have it. You can get an extra vote in.
...and don't forget to have your friends and coworkers join in and vote for you (or just take over their computer and do it for them.) If they want to vote for another show, they can submit multiple shows at the same time, but they can only vote once. Just make sure they don't also vote for the wrong show! :)

voted. glad it's in 1st even tho I admit I'd like to see Star Trek:TOS ahead of TNG.
After my vote the top ten are:
1) BSG:TOS 33
2) BSG:Remake 25
3) Firefly 23
4) Stargate SG-1 22
5) Star Trek - TNG 20
5) The X-Files 20
7) ST:TOS 19
8) Futurama 16
9) Stargate - Atlantis 15
10) Babylon 5 14
The only 4 scifi shows I ever really cared about more than any other are on this list 1,3,7 and 10 :D
However the years for the original is wrong. It says 1978-80. That should be 1978-79
And I wish B5 would drop in DVD price so I can start buying them.

I would now have to question the validity of the vote.
The vote was simply a view of the popularity of the show, without any kind of fixing bias.....now, it's been simply overturned because of disapproval.
"Oh, no no no......that absolutely CAN NOT happen. It is our solemn duty to turn the tide on this vote."
Especially when one resorts to "multiple voting" just to boost the score.
The objectivity of the vote is no longer valid, IMHO. Not saying I am defending a certain show's popularity....but the nature of the voting process has been rendered moot.

Well, that only applies if you do vote multiple times. OTOH, vote stacking/box stuffing is a time-honored tradition in every democracy I can think of. At the same time, 'politicking' to get others to vote is perfectly acceptable, especially as the poll counts multiple votes for multiple shows.....

It is an interesting poll. Some of the shows that got no votes are really obscure shows. For example, the Buck Rogers TV series from the 1950s (Not the Gil Gerard version) was aired once and no episodes are known to exist. Why would they include that show in the running? Can they really expect that it would get any votes? Anyway, I voted for Battlestar Galactica TOS and am pleased as punch to do my part for the show.

Yup, I'm cool with any other fan of any other show on that list, going and letting their fellow fans know about it so that they can vote too. I posted here because I knew there was way more then 4 fans of the original that would want to know about such a list so that they could go and vote.
I can even understand using a few methods to get a few extra votes in because the sci fi community is one that feels very strong about their entertainment and will go that extra length for their show by writing letters, going to conventions, donating money or figuring out a way to get an extra vote or two on a list . All because of a strong connection to their favorite show.
There are other ways to get a lot more votes on that list and one person alone could do it. If I see a hike in the count by a couple hundred or so in just one day, then I will totally agree that the list went to hell in a hand bag. lol
But I also respect the difference in views towards the list. I've came across a few lists on the net where the original Galactica didn't even get 1 vote because obviously none of us knew about it but there was a time limit on it and I didn't figure I would be making any friends here if I posted the URL and said here is what we can't do anything about so go have a look just so you know as a fan base, we suck. LMAO
Sorry, that struck me as funny and I had to post it so I hope no one takes offence. :)

Part of a vote like this is how passionate the fans are getting out the message ... it does go to show the root of the shows popularity on several levels ... or at least how passionate the core cult following may be, if not general over all popularity!!!

Everyone may want to go back and revote, as the number 1 vote getter is no longer valid and a new BSG TOS entry is behind 54 to 34.
It seems that if the owner of the voting felt that the votes had been somehow skewed that he would have restarted the whole poll and not just invalidated one part of it.
Smells highly fishy to me.
Not that a poll like that will have any significance on anything...

I agree, it strikes me as rotten as heck that this little stunt's been pulled. If the poll has been set up to allow for multiple votes, then he might as well toss out the whole thing rather than penalize one show.
ernie90125
March 25th, 2006, 03:38 AM
You're right this is a nasty little stunt, done because I suspect the poll operator does not want osBSG to win. Democracy eh ?
But I would encourage everyone to go back and vote.......if only to wind him up that we win again !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. There could legitimately be a considerable number of people who like otherwise. I do not wish to go into that though because technically, this would be new show discussion. So, I am gonna drop it right here. :)
martok2112
March 25th, 2006, 10:54 AM
But wait...the original BSG is still on the list....it's just down a few notches on the list. So I don't think it was the orignal BSG that got invalidated.
ernie90125
March 25th, 2006, 11:08 AM
The list of shows people can vote for is in alphabetical order.
Where osBSG should be it reads "INVALID SCORE - PLEASE IGNORE" and osBSG is now right the way down the bottom of the list. This convinces me that osBSG's score has been purposely invalidated.
martok2112
March 25th, 2006, 11:15 AM
To be honest....all we can do is speculate. :)\
Another possibility is that there was another show on the list (non-BSG/GINO related) that was not doing well at all, that somehow just JUMPED to numero uno status....and the site master probably thought that it was a joke vote casting....so he could've decided to invalidate that. Let's see what develops.
As far as I am concerned, I've cast my vote. I need not cast it again, even if TOS BSG ended up soaring its way back to the top. That's just my sense of fair play. "One person, one vote."

Now, to speak to a different point, I do see what y'all are talking about. The actual ballot, the original BSG has somehow ended up on the bottom of the list, but the results show TOS still well on the radar....so, ya'll may still be onto something.
I still believe though...."One person, one vote." :)

March 25th, 2006, 11:30 AM

ernie90125
March 25th, 2006, 11:38 AM
therefore.......you're one vote was taken away from you. However, you may reclaim it by voting again. This was the principle that lead me to return and vote again. My point of view is that I have only voted once - but had to register it twice.
martok2112
March 25th, 2006, 01:35 PM
Ernie, Darrell, I agree with you both.
But, Darrell, I would not dare to insult anyone's intelligence with speculation. That is ALL any of us can offer is speculation. :) If I offered up my speculation, and tried to play it off as fact, then yes, you can accuse me of trying to insult your intelligence til the frackin' ovines come home. Unless you can produce irrefutable evidence, then all we have is speculation. :) Being a fencerider, I tend to view things objectively. Yes, it is possible that the vote was rigged in favor of TNS. If it was, then obviously I would dismiss its validity. However, I also offer up the possibility of the scenario I mentioned earlier.
No insult to intelligence offered or intended. But please do not cast me in so dim a light. :)

However, I also offer up the possibility of the scenario I mentioned earlier.
Martok, my friend!
I would have to respectfully disagree with your assessment here. The scenario you propose, is not backed up by the facts that can be seen.
1. The "invalid" poll choice is in exactly the spot that the original TOS BSG would have been. The new choice appears to have been added later and is at the bottom of the list.
2. From eariler posts here, I believe that votes were in the 40s for TOS BSG, and yet when I saw the tally of votes last night, TOS BSG had only 34.
Two, very glaring facts that seem seem to back up what we think.
Now, what the purpose behind such a move was, is pure speculation. It could have been that the owner of the poll saw a spike in votes for TOS BSG and felt it was some how inaccurate, or he IS truly a fan of the new show and made apropriate actions as a result. That is speculation!
However, we can further speculate that if the fisrt is indeed true, and he just thought that the spike in votes was invalid, then he should have restarted the whole list and not just cut down a single choice.
Just my 2 cents!
With respects,
Malkyte

Well stated, Malkyte. I can see those points.
Darrell, my sincerest apologies for my wording a couple posts ago. I know you do not intentionally paint me in a bad light. It was the wrong choice of words.
Generally, I have come to associate "Don't insult our intelligence" with "You are a frackin' liar." So, I responded improperly out of context. :)
Malkyte, my friend, you bring up valid points, and I can consider that scenario. The speculation would be the motivation behind such a move. If we were to question this person about why this happened, it would need to be broached most diplomatically so that there is no animosity.
Respectfully,
Martok2112
