I had long been familiar with his distinguished career but only in the last month had I finally been introduced to the role he's going to be best remembered for, that of Carl Kolchak. The original "Night Stalker" TV movie was as good a genre work as there has ever been, and while the subsequent TV series (which I had bought last month and had been working my way through) was a bit tiresome with its monster of the week formula, McGavin was always great to watch and made the part his own.

RIP.

R.I.P. Mr. McGaven.

I'll always remember him for not only The Night Stalker, but for his roles in "Hanger 18" and "The Martian Chronicles" as well.

Strange irony. Just after typing up the notice about Darren's passing, I sat down to watch Episode #14 of "Night Stalker" on DVD, as I'd been making my way through the series over the last few weeks, figuring tonight was appropriate. Alas, it turns out that episode on the set was defective, necessitating a quick exchange and incredibly that set turned out to be defective in the same spot (this alas is reflective of a pretty pathetic trend in Universal's TV on DVD releases, where defective pressings is fast becoming the norm for them).

The Old Man made that movie shine. Liked the little kid too.

Rest in peace, old man. You will be missed.

As always; :salute:

He was great in A Christmas Story.

I just found out that he died after reading that Don Knotts also passed away this weekend.
