Okay, I have four titles lined up for my upcoming fanfilm, and I need some advise on which is best. I'm ditching the other thread for 2 reasons. One is, the title is no longer relavent, and two, it was getting too long to scroll down to the newest pics. Speaking of newest pics, here's the update I promaced!

WOW...OMG...SWEEEET! Where you been? How am I just learning about this now?

With the little I know from the screen grab I went Journeys End. Where can I learn more about this project?

Galactica Control, this is Digger One

Thank you for your kind comments sir. I've been regularly posting about my project in the thread "Size Comparison". You can find out more about my project there. Again, thanks for your comments.

Digger One, out

Cannot wait to view your project, I would love to be able to have the time to do that kind of work. Its hard to have free time when you are an EMT.

Thanks for everyones comments. As always, I hope to have something new and fresh to show off by tomorrow night.

Seems like "Journey's End" and "The Final Flight" are tied...interresting, I thought "Journey's Fate" would be a popular title...

I've voted Journey's Fate. And it seems to apply to both shows :

As well as the BSG meaning, it relates to the Enterprise which spent all its time on a Journey and the this one was nearly fateful. But it was both Journey's fates that put the Galactica and Enterprise together.

There is already a comic series from Realm Press called Journey's End....so using Fate doesn't clash. The Final Flight for some reason doesn't appeal...there have been quite a few fan works begining with Fight/Flight I think, maybe that's it.

Great pictures......

Personally, I think something with "Fate" or a like word in the title fits Galactica well. I also immediately thought of the Journey's End set of comics.

These pics are beautiful! :salute:

Battlestars Galactica, Calisto, and Pegasus, this is Digger One, broadband address.

So far, "The Final Flight" and "Journey's Fate" are tied. No one has voted for "End of the Exodus" yet, and "Journey's End" is only one vote behind the other two.

I'm putting out a call for anyone who would like to be in my film as a Viper pilot. If you have the colonial uniform, helmet (optional), and a good camrea...and maybe an accessable greenscreen...let me know. It would help me in the fact that I can add a viper squadren to the story without ripping too much footage from "Battlestar Galactica", and cutting them together. So, I'm just wondering if it's possible to do this with all the fan film makers out there. :salute:

Continuing, there should be an update by tonight, and hopefully, it will show what I plan to do with some of the interior scenes from Battlestar Galactica.

I liked that story you posted Stevew. When's the next part due out? I can't wait for it. Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.

So, that about does it. Oh yeah, requesting permission to land on Battlestar Pegasus Alpha landing bay.

Digger One, over and out.

And now, back to the first part of the film...the attack on U.S.S. Enterprise. Update time everyone!

The U.S.S. Enterprise takes massive hits from a raider.

SPOCK: Too late.
KIRK: HANG ON!!!!!

NOTE: The last picture is more of a prove of concept then an actual frame from the film. I have yet to render that scene yet, but it should look WAY better then this.

GREAT images !

You credit the viewscreen from STII - so I guess this is a screenshot you've edited ? If possible and it will look right, remake the viewscreen to minimise the amount of footage you use from an actual released production. The less that appears in a fan production, the more we can show the fanbase standing on its own two feet.

A lot of fanfilms use some footage, it's OK I guess, but I think the more shots we make ourselves as fans the better....in my view...

I really love the way this is turning out.....

Digger_One

And I agree with you, two hundred percent. In fact, this would be the first fan film I make with ripped footage. Usually, I stick to exterior shots and film actors on greenscreen. But, recently, I've got no one to act for me down here. So, that's why I'm ripping footage from "Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan" and "Battlestar Galactica". I needed something to drive the story forward in addition to CGI and dynamic music. Like you said, the less footage from an actual production, the better. Hence, my call to Viper pilots yesterday. I just hope this all works out. As usual, look for an update tonight!

Digger One, over and out.

Glad to see you agreed...

One thought on use of ST:II footage is it dates your fanfilm to that specific era.

If you didn't include visual footage from ST:II then you could follow this up with a sequel based on any era of ST:II onwards. The Enterprise and crew could have been out on a nostalgia trip rather than in service, so a sequel could include TNG ships.

Don't get me wrong.....The movies are my favourite era of ST, and the Enterprise-A(and refit I guess as they are very similar) are my favourite design of Enterprise. The above is just a thought....

Perhaps prematurely....speaking of sequals....wouldn't it be fantastic to see Starfleet defend Earth against a fleet of attacking Baseships ? Is a sequel something you would consider ?

Either way on any of the above.....I think the pictures make your animating skills look fantastic, and I am eagerly awaiting every update and the day when my socks will be blown off my your finished piece.....

Oops. I seem to have missed an update...right when I was doing so good too.

Well, there's not much to update on. Work on this project was kinda slow today. I guess the only update worth saying is that I redid the "finale" shot with a better earth. The other one looked too small. By the way, the shot I'm refering to is the one at the top of this thread.

Sorry there's not much of an update today everyone. I promise I'll have something to show tomorrow night (Friday)

Oh yeah, an update on the poll.

Looks like "Journey's Fate" is in the lead. Following closely is "Journey's End" and "The Final Flight". "End of the Exodus"...still not a single vote. Like I said, I'm leaning more towards "Journey's Fate" myself. Keep them votes comeing.

Update time....well...not yet

Tonight, I'm doing something differant. Instead of merely posting a screenshot of a new scene, I've decided to release a "trailer" so to speak of my fan film. I have some scenes to finish rendering for it, but I'm hopingto have it done so. Stay tuned, Digger One is coming in hot!

Oh yeah, I'm taking the title currently highest rated in the rankings...you'll see when you see the trailer. :salute:

And now, with out further ado, here is the 2:12 minute trailer for my fan film.

First, I really-really liked it watching it a couple of times I had an easy smile on my face. It felt right. Kudos to you for getting something done too, like Two Brain is found of saying “anyone finishing a fan film should be sainted”. So now get some actors in costume delivering dialog…we want more!

I’m not a CGI guy or animator. I’m a guy who’ll lug around a Canon XL-2 shooting sacks of flesh and water speaking technobable. So I don’t always know the right terms nor do I know how much experience you have etc. I think you will want to work on the textures of the models because it’s not lighting they where lit well. The shot of the two Raiders could be shorter to tighten things up. Having some ripping damage along the Enterprise during the Raider blasts would be cool ala ST: II Wrath of Khan, unless you where going for shield deflection.

The rotating base star as it is firing was…FRAKING DELISHOUS, me likey-likey very much. Great choice of the Goldsmith music, the sound seems to bridge the two franchises.

Thanks for sharing this with us. :salute:

It was great to wake up to find this update on CF....I've watched it several times already....

One thing I noticed is that, somewhat oddly, many of the attacks on the Enterprise are by just one or two raiders ? Considering the size of the target, and the number of raiders that a Basestar holds, why are just one or two sent ?

I agree with Sept17th about showing damage to the Enterprise. Especially when following it with damage inside the bridge.

The shot at the end of all the ships together heading towards Spacedock is epic !!! I love it !

GREAT WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aren't Cylon's usually overconfident? I figured that when the basestar commander just decides to blow up the foreign target, two things haven't happened.

1. The Basestar Commander doesn't know the streigth of the U.S.S. Enterprise mainly because...
2. Captain Kirk decided it would be better to go around the unusual hamburger looking vessel, and there fore hasn't opened fire with anything.

I agreed with showing damage on the Enterprise hull from the attack...infact, I'm trying to figure out just how to do that. Believe it or not, this fan film marks the first time I managed to get just Lasers right. So, I'm not the professional Lightwave animator my images make me out to be. None the less, I'm still working on it. I don't like to set release dates, so don't be surprised if I continue the screenshot updates, then suddenly release it without warning. Keeps everyone in suspence :)

I think this trailer should hold everyone over for a day or two, so I'll resume updates on Sunday night. Please, keep the feedback rolling in!

Still very unsure about the 1 or 2 Raiders idea. Since a single Raider has less capbilities than a ST shuttlecraft !

Your Raider is seen opening fire of a ship 100 times bigger than it.....even to the unfamilar eye...the Enterprise is a ship covered in well designed armour. Likely to have weapons. A good size, with unknown technology, certainly enough to be conisdered threat to a Basestar.

I think it would be very interesting to see the Enterprise surrounded by a swarm of attacking raiders. We know her weapon design is for battle between other ships of similar size, not a swarm of small craft....as ST movie era never really had fighters like SW and BSG.....so the Enterprise could find itself overwelmed especially if kamikazes are included.

ernie90125
February 25th, 2006, 07:29 AM
Oh, a couple of little things :

I agree with Sept17th about the 2 raiders flying towards Enterprise shot being too long. I'm also surprised we don't see them attack...the just seem the fly right to the saucer section.

The shot of the viewscreen showing the Raider attacking the bridge head on is MAGNIFICENT....followed by an impressive exterior shot of the Raider ramming but the explosion is some way away from the bridge, on the saucer.
I would look at showing the Raider veer off and ram just to the side of the bridge, which will bring it in line with the footage of an interior explosion as seen in the STII footage you use elsewhere. The creativity of this is excellent, this is just a continuity point.

Oh yeah....at the end when the title comes up.....Journey's Fate is missing the apostrophe. :)

I've watched the trailer so many times.....so AMAZING !

I like this--a lot. SF Fusion--blending multiple SF properties into a single project has always been a favourite of mine.

The titling is well-written. It reveals the next part of the story at the right moment.

I agreed with showing damage on the Enterprise hull from the attack...infact, I'm trying to figure out just how to do that.

The Enterprise Hull being blasted by the raiders does need some damage--burn marks, and a few particle emitters where the raider shots hit sensitive areas. If you're using Lightwave, you may want to create blast and burn marks to use as an alpha channel in your hull textures--just underneath that, use a layer that is half black and half white set to "PS Multiply" that is referenced to the light showing where the raider torpedos are hitting. This should (heavy emphasis on should) have the effect of revealing the burn marks as the torpedos hit.

Add in some particle emitters to represent atmo being expelled from the ruptured hull where the laser torpedos hit, and you have a very nice FX shot.

I also like the shot of the Base Ship opening fire. You may want to look at varying the timing of the laser shots--making it a bit more random.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

Awesome feedback. Exactly what I was hoping for! Okay, I'll address concerns one by and, and adjustments I'm likely to make.

Considering how strong a raider is compared to a shuttlecraft...umm...looks like I'm changing that shot to a squadron of raiders instead of a patrol. Thanks for addressing that issue. I have some footage from Wrath of Khan when Khan opens fire on the Enterprise, and I was hoping to time the raider attack with that footage of seeing the interior blown to bits. So, like Khan, the raiders don't attack until they're at point blank range. I just didn't show it like that in the trailer.

Hmm...yeah, I can see the raider veering off at the last second when it rams the saucer. I'm going to use the scene of the bridge going up in flames seen in this trailer after the ramming. Then, I'll show the exterior. Quick cuts, it's all about quick cuts in a battle scene. "Journey's Fate" is missing the apostrophe because...well...the font I used doesn't inclued one :D .

Thanks for the tutorial in the burn marks. I'll try and apply it to the Enterprise. However, as I credited in the credits, it isn't my model. None the less, it doesn't stop me from trying.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Keep it comming!

"Journey's Fate" is missing the apostrophe because...well...the font I used doesn't inclued one.
Abort the whole fanfilm !!! Just joking. It's not such a big thing....perhaps you could use an apostrophe from another font ? This was just a silly little thing I noticed on one of them many times I've played the trailer...

Like I said......I think this fanfilm is going to be one of the best ever.....

This is fabulous! Goosebump city! I even started tearing up at the end. (Yup, I am a girl! :girl: )

I agree fully about needing more raiders and the burn marks. Was the basestar actually textured? If so, it needs to be stronger.

The shot of the galactica at the begining is gorgeous but I would like to suggest a slight lighting modification. Sadly, I can't tell you how as my lighting stinks, but the ship looks slightly cartoony/flat and just a small light tweek would really put it over the top. It is obviouls that there is a lot of detail on there that is just not properly enhased by the lighting. It is not a texture thing.

Also, in the scene where the raiders approach the enterprise, the speed of the ships and the sharp arc seem out of place. So for that scene I suggest more ships, a slightly different pace, and a broader arc. This would give the impression of the ships sweeping in on the Enterprise for the attack which is much more dramatic.

Does LW let you edit arcs the way that Maya does? If so, what I am talking about should be super easy as it will be a minor tweak. Nothing major needed.

YOU RULE!

February 25th, 2006, 09:08 PM
I'm back, and I have a text update.

Because I just recently realized how weak the raiders are compared to a UFP starship, I've updated the attack from 2 single raiders, to 2 flights of 4 raiders, making for a grand total of...8 Cylon Raiders. That should be enough to handle a threat to the basestar. Speaking of the Hades Class Basestar, I'm really not sure that it is textured. I think it's just a bunch of gray colors.

Adressing that first shot with the Galactica. As Athena pointed it out, it does look quite cartoonish, and flat. There is a reason for this...a bad reason, but a reason(s). I turned off shadows for this particular scene. Why would I turn them off? Well...that scene was really a last minute addition to the trailer, so I wanted it rendered up quick to include. That shot probably won't end up in the final film, so not many worrys there.

I've redone the shot of the raiders approuching the U.S.S. Enterprise. There will be an image upcoming tomorrow night. Like I said, it includes the new squadron of raiders. Unfortunetly, Lightwave doesn't let me edit arcs as you could in Maya, I'm really just guessing at what looks right. I'm not all that good with arcs like the ships should be doing, so half the time it probably isn't going to look right. Oh well, I do what I can... :)

Tomorrow, with some luck, we should be seeing the first of the Colonial :viper:'s!

Again, thank you everyone for the awesome feedback. Keep it rolling it, please!

February 25th, 2006, 09:28 PM
The addition of the Raiders sounds awesome. The shadows would totally make a difference on the Galactica. I can understand why you turned them off in the interest of time. I look forward to the re-render. I am sure it will be spectacular!

BTW - The arc does not look bad and it took me several views to really catch that it seemed off to me. I think it is more of a pacing thing and with the addition of more raiders will be fine.

This is really a fantastic project that you are taking on! Major kudos to you. Starting it took a lot of gusto and talking about it to a group like us who will stay on you about it takes even more. The work so far is really fabulous. The fact is that for a piece that long and involved with so many shots and ships, we all seem to have very little to comment on other than saying that it is fabulous really says something. I personally know how challenging this stuff is. It is not at all easy and takes a lot of talent and patience.

You are doing a fabulous job! :salute:

Between you with this and Sandy with his Exodus series, TOS really does live on!

ernie90125
February 26th, 2006, 05:01 PM
I've looked at the arc as the two Raiders approach the Enterprise, and I think its only a small point that will change when you introduce another 6 Raiders.

Another thing I'd like to point out is the underside to the front section of the Galactica (and possibly Pegasus) is not something that is there in the Original Series. In the original series the underside of the front section is roughly flat.

Do we presume that this is an upgrade the Battlestar has undergone over time ? Quite reasonable to believe that, which is probably why the model maker included it.....

Digger_One
February 26th, 2006, 05:46 PM
Sounds like a plusiable reason. The Pegasus is more likely to have the upgrades, so why wouldn't Commander Cain share that with the Galactica.

Update time! Four (actually 3) pictures of update!

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/turbos.jpg
Not a still from the film, but my attempt at getting the turbo engines from the Colonial Viper right. I need feedback on this one.

And that covers it for now. I'm going to stop these nightly updates sadly :( , but, in their place, I'm just going to update as updates become avalible. :D So, expect more updates...well...as they become avalible!

Great to see more images.....

I was pleased when you said you would increase the number of Raiders attacking the Enterprise to 8....although I still wasn't sure it was enough. However, seeing your update picture has convinced me that 8 is the right number. It'll be interesting to see how the Enterprise, a ship designed for engaging other ships of similar size, will fare against 8 small targets.

No problemo about not continueing the pattern of nightly updates. I for one, both as a member here and webmaster for the fanfilms website, and grateful beyond words that you are spending your time making an animation that is generating vibrant discussion and excitment on this forum. I'll look forwards to any updates, regardless of date/time of arrival !!!!!!!

The shot of more Raiders looks MUCH better too.

As for the turbos, didn't they have more of a cone shape? I seem to recall that they were narrow and went wide in almost a perfect cone shape. I also seem to recall that ithe blast was almost as long as the viper itself.

I will miss the updates. Tonight I made sure to go online just to see what was new. I can totally understand why you are cutting back. Looking forward to more in the future!

Keep up the wonderful work!

I'd love to try to come and be a warrior in your fanfilm, but there are things I'd need to know.

One, where are you located? If I knew that I'd see what I could do about trying to make it there. No guarantees though.

Two, how long would you need me there to film. I will admit I have a job that I have to get to and money to make in order to keep my own life on track.

Summer might be the best time, but I am also loath to schedule anything that far in advance. I may also have some information coming in about a theater project around the beginning of April, so that's something I'm waiting for right now.

SO I guess everything revolves around when, where and for how long. Then I'd see if I could make it.

JSC1

Unfortunately the smoke at the end of the Viper engines reminds me of a plane that's going down. Not the turbo thrust of a Viper. I could believe this shot if a Viper was damaged, but not if it was going at turbos.

Hey JSC1, I live in the San Francisco area and my husband will film me for this. We will have our green screen in operation for it. Are you planning a trip out west anytime? If so, we can film you too. Maybe we can knock it out in a day. I guess that depends on how much we will be invloved.

Text update. Not much of one, but it's worth mentioning. I have in render right now a scene in which the U.S.S. Enterprise opens fire on the Cylon Raiders. It's a worthy update to me because it's the first time I've managed to get Phaser Fire from the Enterprise. It's quite a challenge to get "Wrath of Khan" style phaser fire from the hypervoxels. Anyways, unlike Battlestar Galactica laser fire, I hope that this phaser fire is going to be good enough to do only in Lightwave. Considering I don't have that "dramatic" lighting anymore, I don't have to worry about the phaser fire changing colors on me :) .

I'll have a picture posted soon, hopefully after the render finishs. Keep the feedback rolling in, please!

EDIT: Update with picture!

Here she is, the U.S.S. Enterprise opening fire on the incoming cylons.

Definately need some feedback here. Something's wrong with the phaser fire, but I can't identify it.

If you were working in Maya then I would say it has to do with your particle emitter calculation. Is that how it works in LW? You might want to pop on over to some of the other modeling threads and ask those guys to take a look. They may know.

Still looks mighty pretty though!

ernie90125
February 28th, 2006, 04:44 AM
I don't know if this will help, but I took a look on the Internet and found a site with screencaps from throughout the movie :

http://databank.lowerdecks.com/movies/twokcaps.shtml

There is a screenshot very similar to yours. The Enterprise firing at a similar angle on page three. There is a difference in the colouration of the phaser fire, and it shows the beams of light as being straight and unbroken.

Hope this helps........

rjandron
February 28th, 2006, 06:43 AM
If you're going to use Hypervoxels to simulate phaser fire in LW, I would suggest that you use geometry rather than particles to create the beam. ST Phasers are a continuous beam.

For the Phaser, create a single point in Modeller, and then clone that point along the Z axis about, say 100 times, with an offset of 0.2 metres. Save this out as an object and bring it in to Layout and parent it to a null.

Now, in your Hypervoxels window, apply the hypervoxel settings you used for the Phasers to the object of points you just created and set your hypervoxel size to at least 0.2 metres, so that the hypervoxels blend together in a continuous stream. Use the null to rotate and aim the phasers, and you can scale the points object on the Z axis from scale 0 to scale 1.0 to show the beam "shooting out."

You may have to play with the settings to get it right. I'm guessing that the 0.2 metre spacing is going to be adequate.

As far as what's happening in your picture, I expect that either the Enterprise is moving, or the emitter you're using for the phasers has its angle changing as particles are being emitted.

My personal preference however would be to avoid using hypervoxels for phasers and use actual geometry.

Digger_One
February 28th, 2006, 07:58 AM
Call it an experiment, because in the past, I've alwayed used a straight beam rather then hypervoxels for phaser fire. The only reason I've used it here is because there's something differant about the phaser fire in "The Wrath of Khan", like it's laser fire almost. But, after this little "Experiment in Terra", I'm going back to using geometry to simlulate the phaser fire. The Hypervoxels look like the Enterprise is firing the stuff inside lava lamps.

Thanks for the feedback, and here's yet another update.

Nightly updates are hereby re-enstated. I found myself last night trying to make the dead line for the night, and ended up making it. I'm just so used to it, so I'll just start them again. Look for an update tonight.

Oh yeah, been meaning to ask....what do you estimate the duration of the finished fanfilm will be ? Or is to too soon to tell ?

Digger_One

Right now, I'm looking at 15 minutes, more or less. It's a good round number, but it is a little too soon to give a definate estimate.

Wow !!!!!!

I didn't realise it would be that long ! That's amazing ! And all developed so quickly !

Kamekazi Athena:

Unfortunately I live in the midwest. In Ohio, so San Francisco is not exactly a hop skip and a jump for me.

I could try to make plans for a trip to San Francisco, but my days off are on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I have to be back at work on Thursday night. So maybe I could fly out tuesday, shoot on wednesday and catch a late flight out which would get me back home thursday morning. Just have to figure out what day that would be.

Also a ride to and from the airport, and a cot for the night would probably help too. I'd also have to look at discount airfare to see what would get me out there at the cheapest, and best, price.

Let me know what you think and maybe something could be worked out.

And Digger?

One of the things I loved about the phasers in 'Wrath of Khan' was the sound they made. They sounded deadly as they shot from the Reliant and the Enterprise.

Visualy the fire looks a little crooked.

Hey JSC1,

Let's keep in touch and I will see what I can do. We can chat when a formal timeline is set. I am sure I can help you out.

Nightly Update time. I've ditched the hypervoxels approuch, mainly because it's just a little too hard to get right. I'm going back to the geometry phasers, and hoping they look right. Here it is.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/phasers.jpg

I will be using the Wrath of Khan phaser sound. So, no worrys there. I had hoped to be on the Galactica shots by now, but because of the low number of raiders, I had to redo these scenes completely. So, I'm hoping to be on to the Galactica shots by next week. As it stands, I'm also hoping to edit together act one by the end of this week. So, there's the update. Keep the feedback rolling in!

And once again, here's my update of the night. Did some more work on the scene of the Enterprise taking fire, and a new scene, as shown here.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/newburnmark.jpg

The scorching mark left by a trail of fire from a Cylon Raider. Still some work to be done on this shot.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/firstdown.jpg

The U.S.S. Enterprise scores the first hit with this phaser shot. One raider down, seven to go! Problem is, from here on out, they're going to be quite hard to hit.

And that's the update for tonight! Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow night. Like I said, I'm hoping to have act one cut together by the end of the week. So...Comments? Questions? Random Jokes? Donated Cubits? :D

Another great couple of shots. If its Kirk, I suspect he won't fire first. Am I right in suspecting since you show a picture of the Enterprise taking a hit before your picture of a Raider being destroyed - that you've taken this into account ?

I also think its great that people are talking about filming scenes, and even flying places to film for Journey's Fate. It might seem disappointing at first that more people don't post on the thread, and the poll has only had 11 participants....but this should not be misunderstood a sign of little support. I think this is a magnificent addition to the fandom and KA and JSC1 prove how we feel. Keep up the good work !!!

I agree with the fan participation. It's definately beyond what I expected. I guess I never knew how nice and friendly the Battlestar Galactica fan base is. I'm used to working in the Star Wars fan base...not as friendly :/:

About the above shot. The U.S.S. Enterprise was indeed fired on first by the Basestar, and missed. There for, when the raiders started to approuch...well...Captain Kirk must have declared the basestar and it's fighters hostile. Can't say I blame him. :)

One more announcement...All things pending, I'll be releasing...ready for this?...a second trailer by this weekend. More of a trailer v2. I don't want to give everything away. Really more of an update on the shots seen in the orignal trailer. And, after the release of that trailer, I'm going to make the title final. As of right now, the title is still "Journey's Fate". As of Friday, presuming no more votes tip the balence beam up there, the title will perminately be "Journey's Fate". In addition to all this, there is one more opinion I need. This is going to be a "Battlestar Galactica" show, reguardless of the crossovers I'm doing. The opinion I need is that I'm going to re-do the opening title sequence from Battlestar Galactica. Do you think I should stick carefully to the original opening? Or, should I shoot for something new? Something like the Fifth or Six season opening would have been. (I like to think Battlestar Galactica was cheated 6 seasons). I will be re-doing the exterior space shots reguardless, but I would like to know everyone's opinion before I start that.

That's all for now. Keep the great feedback rolling in. :salute:

EDIT: Holy Frack! 3 pages!

Which intro is a tricky one.

I think we the fans are heading into the future here.....making our own future.....so perhaps it is fitting to make an intro which is new, but within the 'family' of what we're used to as a BSG intro. I think you should develop something that is an evolution of the original.

Looking forwards to, all being well, trailer v2 this weekend......

These shots are awesome!

I think gently moving forward with the titles is good. Like keeping the same font but updating the structure and design a bit.

JSC1 and others interested in being filmed that can make it to SF, feel free to PM me. I check my mail almost daily.

I am pretty excited about this!

Once again, thank you everyone for the feedback. And now, it's time for more pictures! Tonight, I'll be doing a "Before and After" segment. I'll shot the before picture, then the after picture.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/raiders.jpg
BEFORE: Just imagine the hulls being grey. I fixed this later. Take note, two Cylon raiders departing a Hades Class Basestar.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/departswarm.jpg
AFTER: The new swarm. Note the eight raiders departing, in that formation they usually seemed to take up when they where landing.

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/raiderstart.jpg
BEFORE: The first raider opens fire on the engineering hull of the U.S.S. Enterprise

http://www.captainshuttle.com/uploads/openfire.jpg
AFTER: A squad of three opens fire on the same spot. I lost a little bit of the dynamic in the first shot, but I like the action of this one better.

And there you have it, some improvments over the older shots. I'm still very hopeful on having a new trailer ready by Saturday at the least. Questions? Comments? Random Jokes? I'll still take Donated Cubits! Gotta gamble with something on the Rising Star :D

EDIT: My first cut of Act One is finished, done, and almost final. I have some visual effects to finish for the first act. The First Act, FYI, is mainly the U.S.S. Enterprise being attacked by Cylons. As of this weekend, I should been able to get into Act Two, with the Galactica shots. It also includes the parts with the Colonial Viper Pilots. I'll have a script ready soon to send out, so be sure to drop me a private message if you're interrested. I know that KamikazeAthena and JSC1 are interrested, anyone else? Also, be sure to look for my updated trailer this weekend!

Great to see the before and after pictures.....

My only comment on the first of the basestar, would be I prefered the closer up view we got on the first picture. Aside from that everything is great, and really great to see it coloured grey !!!

Can't wait for the weekend update. This stunning fan production is moving at an amazing pace. How many hours a day are you spending on it ? 25 ? I think your dedication to this is fantastic.....

Maybe 27 hours if you include lunch :D

Nah, I spend a few minutes here, and few there, and leave overnight renders going. I'm accually going a little slower then I would on a Star Wars/Stargate/Star Trek crossover fan film (Don't even ask to see it, It's too big to upload, and it's just flat out wierd :) )

Moving on to the update part. Tonight, all things pending of course, I should have the first pictures from Act Two of this film up to show. Act Two, being mostly Galactica. So, stay tuned. :salute:

Okay, I'm a little late with the update tonight, but with good reason. I'm going to release the second version of my trailer tonight. It's going through a final render right now. There is some, although severely limited new stuff in there. I'm not going to list the updates here, but I will say that I've improved most of the shots everyone mentioned to me. Also, I've corrected the text coloring which went dark at the end of the first trailer, now it's all that amber style color. I'm a sucker for that color. :)

I'm also uploading over the old one, so the old one will not be avalible after I finish uploading this one. Trust me, it's for the better.

I look forward to your feedback. Please review and critique it here in this thread if you download it.

EDIT: UPDATE! UPDATE! Here it is. The new version of the trailer for "Journey's Fate". By the way, the final name of the film is "Journey's Fate".

Again, please, feel free to download and review. Please, I do beg you to review in this thread, so I can get a sence of direction when correcting these shots.

It's late over here, so I'll just :salute: and sign off. I look forward to the feedback!

Great to wake up to another trailer, which I eagerly downloaded !

Feedback :

0:47 shows a great shot of 8 Cylon Raiders leaving a Basestar. I love how the camera angle lowers down as they fly towards us. But the effect is lost when we go underneath them. I'd love to see the camera lowering stop at the same level as the Raiders and they swooosh past in a menacing close-up.

0:54 The Cylon's make their Final Stand ? This is not the Cylon Final Stand, it is 1 basestar discovering Earth just before the Galactica does. I think the wording should be changed.

0:27 and 0:37 and 1:10 I keep getting mixed up with the Cylon attacks here. One hits near the bridge. Another is by 8 Raiders. Then at 1:10 3 Raiders attack and hit engineering, but we see the inside the bridge explode ? Plus we have the basestar firing. I am getting confused as to which attack, causes which damage ?

1:26 That shot you have created of the Fleet making it to Earth is truly epic. But putting the logo and title on top of that shot, lessens the epic effect. I would look at putting the logo and title later.

In the same shot above, you have Adama's voice about the quest to find Earth. But they've just found it ? ;-) Wouldn't it be better to lift his speech from the beginning of Galactica1980 which ends in "We have at last found Earth" ? I think that would be much more effective. (This is V. important in my view)

Hope this all helps..........

Okay...now to address feedback questions.

1. Hmm...you know, that might work better then what I have right now. I think I'll re-do that one to see how it looks.

2. Correction. The Basestar accidently stumbled on the Enterprise, not Earth. You're right though. Bad choice of words on my part.

3. Remember, this is a teaser. Attacks are shown out of order. The whole point of teasers is to "tease" everyone into watching the final show.

4. While this is true, I can't find another place for that shot. Seemed like a good idea at the time :...: . Don't worry though, because that shot won't have any titles or anything like that in the final show.

5. Very, very good point. Any chance someone can point me toward that opening nariation from "Galactica 1980"? If I can find it, maybe I can work it in to the next trailer (Yes, not teaser, Trailer ;) ).

That should just about cover it. Thanks for the feedback! Anyone else?

I have the G80 episode The Return of Starbuck saved as an mpeg on my computer. That has the narration in, I will see if I can capture the audio. One note though, is in G80 they dropped the word yahren, and replaced it with year. Adama says "years" in his speech. However, perhaps we can look into editing yahren in to replace that ? We just so happen to have a sound engineer here on CF, I'll see if I can capture the audio and drop him a line.......

Hi guys,

I agree with Daniel's comments. The only thing I have to add is that the ships look too clean to be real. This works for the Raiders but not for the Basestar or the Enterprise. I suggest smuging the texture up a bit. It does not need much.

I truely have to say that this is a fabulous piece of art. I am beyond impressed and I get goosebumps everytime that I see it.

I showed version one to a co-worker yesterdaywho could not believe that this is "fan art". Basically, everyone I have shown it to is floored. Keep up the wonderful work! :salute:

March 4th, 2006, 04:43 PM
I have always seen the Enterprise as a very clean ship - I think it looks just right.... But I will agree with the Basestar texturing could be better, which I have commented on before.

You're right about this having that 'flooring' effect on people - it did me !!!!!!!!!!

Wow...thanks for the great compliments everyone.

Sorry for the severe lack of updates lately. I've been catching up on college work. Also, some of the shots I'm rendering take quite a while to render. So, I'll lose my reputation of putting this thing together in the shortest time possible. After all, it's better to have it done right, as opposed to having things rushed. So...again...I'm forced to cancel my nightly updates again. I'll be around the boards, and update once in a while, but first off, I've got to handle my college grades. So, until the next update, which shouldn't be too far off, :salute: !

Oh look...a black hole. This is Digger One, I'm pulling over to investigate a black hole, over.

Galactica Control, this is Digger One.

Appearently, you're supposed to stay away from black holes. No one ever told me that one! Anyways, I have a small update as to what I've been doing recently. As a few know, something called "real life", whatever that is, seems to have gotten in the way of this production. I've decided to work on the intro sequence I've been thinking about so much. Right now, I've got about 5 shots completed. I'll probably need at least 9 to make it final. Also looking through episodes to find good charactor shots for my first varient of the intro.

Well, that's what I've been up to recently. Now, back to trying to break out from this blasted black hole :salute:
