At this point, all we know is that Dynamite has the rights to publishing a comic based on the original series. Past attempts have either gone the "this is season 2" route or the "it's 20 years later and Adama is dead" route. How do you envision the new series? I personally would like to have stories that take place after "The Hand of God." In this way, Adama is still active and we all find out what happens next. I hope the artist they line up for the series is someone that can capture the flavor of the original show. As for villains, I defenitely want to see some Cylon action. Baltar back to his old tricks would be fun too. I loved his banter with Lucifer. Whatever they do with the property, I will definitly put down my $3.00 to get a copy!

Well, I have to say that the Chris Scalf comics were better from an art standpoint, but I have to say that the initial Max Press stories set 15 yahrens later were promising before they fell apart. If they set it 15 yahrens later, then at the very least I'd have to see that some positive things have happened vis-a-vis Starbuck-Cassie and Apollo-Sheba. Max Press at least gave us that much, whereas Hatch's novels have the relationships totally screwed up.

Whatever route is followed though, above all, first and foremost GET THE CONTINUITY RIGHT! This is the thing that drives me so batty about Hatch's novels in that it seems like there's no clue as to what went on in the actual episodes. Stories need to be constructed with a respect for the intelligence of the average Galactica fan who knows what happened in the original episodes and expects a storyline to remember things like (1) The Ship Of Lights giving the coordinates to Earth at the end of WOTG or (2) just who Rigel and Omega were etc. etc. Any comic that doesn't show that kind of attentiveness to what's gone on is ultimately a worthless and wasted effort IMO.

They could decide to break the mold and go for something different, rather than basically re-tread ground others have covered.

Perhaps 'Adama-the early years'
Or even the origins of the war?

That the comic books help prove there is a market for at least a DVD adventure for the original series.

That they actually get published...and what 17th said.

My hope is that the comics will explore the adventures after The Hand of God....but before The Second Coming and the colonials settlement on a planet.

Then....as a spin-off the comics are made into 'Digital Comic DVDs' which are basically flowing picture galleries with music, sound effects, and voiceovers from the ORIGINAL CAST. These demonstrate the interest in a Continuation DVD....

We get adventures from the years they can't go back to film.....and another opportunity to show the commercial viability of our much sort after Contination......

Shoot, I just posted my hopes on another thread but here's the basics:

That it takes place shortly after "HoG," with Adama on the bridge and Apollo in a cockpit, and that the writers utilize BG's great supporting characters like Cassiopea, Dr. Salik, Borallian Nomen, Bojay and Lucifer.

Regardless, I'm sure I'll be picking up more than just one copy of each issue as a show of support for the original BG. Hope it's fun, lasting, and leads to something more down the road: animated project, theatrical release, series of novels, whatever--just more classic BG.

If I ran the zoo? Dictates from a mad galactica dictator:

1) NO PREQUELS (flashbacks to earlier times allowed, but the seires wouldn't be set in pre-destruction colonies)
2) REAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT BASED ON THE CHARCTERS WE KNOW AND LOVE FROM THE SHOW (there's plenty of characters to explore without thinking you need a whole bunch of new ones to overshadow the classic cast. What were the practical effets of the destruction on these people's lives? Did anyone change as a result? From where do they draw hope?
3) MAXIMIZE THE STORY POTENTIAL WE MISSED WITH CANCELLATION (The show was nothing but a baby just out of the cradle... imagine all the amazing stuff that could have happened on the journey to Earth.
4) MAINTAIN THE FEEL OF THE SHOW. (Don't go changing stuff just because you think it needs to be "updated" or "re-imagined". There's an art to keeping true to the original material. Put your ego away and prove you can.
5)DON'T ANSWER QUESTIONS THAT DON'T NEED ANSWERING. (Mystique is the reason people keep coming back to a character or show or property. Let their imaginations do some of the heavy lifting. I know MY 12-year-old-brain had a better idea of what The Clone Wars were than what George eventually vomited up. My imagination about what Boba Fett's history was was MUCH better than what george gave us. I'm sure YOURS was better than his idea too. There's no sin in leaving the past a mystery. "Always leave them wanting more".
6) EXPAND THE UNIVERSE LEGITIMATELY. (Don't try to jam your own pet theories in there. When a new alien race appears, ask yourself, "Does this REALLY fit?"

And more. Respect the source. That's what I say.

"DON'T ANSWER QUESTIONS THAT DON'T NEED ANSWERING."

I can think of some things from the established BG mythos that would fall into this category.

#1-Don't tell us who the "Silent One" from "Long Patrol" was.
#2-Don't show us too much of the Ship of Lights and who they are. EIT really watered down their impact from how they were presented in WOTG.
#3-Don't explain more deeply the origins of life on Kobol or the nature of how war with the Cylons broke out.
#4-Don't reveal any more clues on what time is it on Earth now. HOG did enough with the Apollo XI transmission. Let us keep imagining what timeframe it is until the very last issue if you want to wrap up the whole series then!

Eric,

That's exactly the kind of stuff I was talking about. Agreed on all counts.

Like I said, mystique is what brings the admirers back time and again. Look at how long X-Files kept going by NOT telling us exactly what was going on. They kept us coming back week after week for another dose of "You don't know how deep this runs, Mulder!"

And you can't have a continuing "endless quest" series by tipping your hand andgiving the audience everything they want right off the bat. In fact, I'd go so far as to say you shouldn't EVER give the audience EVERYTHING they want. Because as Spock once said, " You will find that the having is not nearly as exciting as the wanting" or something like that.

Galactica can provide a stupendous platform from which to spin science-fantasy tales of all stripes. Its a hugely "universal" (pardon the pun) base from which to start stories about politics, human condition, war stories, disaster stories, humor, you name it. And it can be all these things together. It just depends on how you tell your episodes.

I've been thinking a bit about this. I must say the answer is kind of hard to give. I'd love to see a continuation comic, but I don't know what it would entail.

Maximum Press and Richard Hatch's novels went the 20+yahren route, as would the Second Coming and Tom DeSanto's aborted project. Unless a film or new continuation series went this route I doubt this would be a good approach for a comic as it's 'been there/done that'.

Realm Press also tried to continue from where the series left off. That too is also a tried approach.

The new comic would have to go a different approach to establish its own identity. Maybe 5 or ten yahrens in the future. That way this comic could have it's own storyline separate from the previous comic lines. I'd also recommend that they do research listening to Two Brained's Exodus series(shameless plug Sandy ;) ) as well as reviewing some stories at http://www.galacticafanfic.com (shameless plug here Eric ;) )

A continuation has a lot of potential. It's just a matter of finding the best way to explore it.

Keep em' flying. :viper:

Maybe we're too concerned about the timeline? What if they just did a comic and ignored the whole "when does this happen in relation to the show" discussion? Just pick up sometime after the show's last episode. Why do we need to be so specific?

I'd just like more Classic Galactica. I don't really care when in the timeline it happens. In fact, they could pick up sometime in the middle of the series.

Adama keeps his word and places Baltar on the first habital planet the fleet encounters to the dismay of the counsel. Baltar encounters Count Iblis again and is re-united with Lucifer and the cylons. The growing Apollo/Sheba relationship is explored further. Athena leaves her post on the Galactica bridge and becomes a full fledged member of the newly reorganized Silver Spar Squadron headed by Captain Bojay. BTW, all this would be set in the months following the events of "Hand Of God".
