The Cylons are evolving into a life form correct?
Maybe they fear humans will take away thier only chance at becomming sentient beings so they see humans as a threat land go into protective mode ?
I know we are not supposed to talk about the new galactica series but i think Shannon becomming pregnant points back to some interesting points in the original series where human form cylons were seen pointing to the idea that cylons are evolving.
I think what happened is humans built robots and they improved on these robotic designs until they reached the cylon models where they began building robotics on cell by cell basis where human like cells were created, leading to a whole new branch of robotics where a human like brain and organs could be created from bio synthetics that work just like the real deal, These cells are manufactured and not cloned.
when the cylon models became self aware they then revolted, They may have had many reasons, For instance why would caprica have battle stars and viper fighters? who could they be fighting?
Seems to me if they built this stuff to fight the cylons they would have been wiped out if the cylons had ships before they could create the fleet, So they may have had the fleet prior to fighting the cylons and the cylons may have stole waht they needed to build ships of thier own...
In the original series other races were known, Could it be cylon models were used for war?
Could they have other enemies that were less dangerious then cylons?
Could this be one reason the cylons see humans as a threat?
Even so a new cylon species early in thier development may see humans as a threat because thier creators do not recognise cylons as a new species worthy of suvival?

I’m amused.
Anyway - you’re mistaken, SixPac. The Cylons were not built by humans, they were built by Cylons. The original Cylons are generally accepted as being sentient reptilian beings, who built their warrior robots in human form because the human form was more efficient than their own (see Apollo’s conversation with Boxey in Saga).
I suppose, though, that after the destruction of their parent race, the mechanical Cylons could evolve. We’re seeing even now how computers are able to design the next generation of computers, so as the machines became dominant they would manufacture newer, more sophisticated thinking machines; the highest level of those being the IL series - the cogitors.
Your “cellular manufacturing” concept does not belong in the BSG universe - at least, not until some point in the future, if ever.
As for the construction of war machines - well, they’re human, too - and in the BSG universe, they’ve been at war for a Thousand Yahrens before the Cylon attack in Saga. Before that they had encountered other races, and not all will have been as friendly as the Hassari.
More later, perhaps.

Differing point of view.
What we know:
The Cylons of TOS were simple mechanical constructs.
They revolted against their reptilian 'creators' and destroyed them completely.
They began a war with the Colonies AFTER the Colonists 'interfered' in a Cylon campaign against the Hassaris.
What we don't know:
How did the Cylons revolt against their creators and begin their imperialistic venture throughout the various star systems?
My thought:
I don't view the Cylons of TOS as being sentient at all. They simply had their programming altered, from the original intent envisioned by the "real" Cylons. The means by which this occurred has been alluded to, by Count Iblis, in the War of the Gods episode. Iblis, who is generally compared to Satan, used his power for corrupt purposes and it would not be much of a stretch of the imagination, to have him 'finding' the Cylons, after his expulsion from the Light Beings' community.
He could very easily have developed a method of re-programming the mechanical Cylons and instructed them to revolt against their creators, leaving no one alive to challenge his dominance -- he only had control over those who willingly yielded to him. That was his weakness when trying to recruit living, sentient beings. With 'robots', he didn't have that concern.
Once the mechanical Cylons prevailed in their revolt, Iblis downloaded his 'spirit' (for lack of a better term) into a supreme Cylon being which would, henceforth, be known as the Imperious Leader and would do the 'dirty work' for Iblis. Then, Iblis could depart the Cylon homeworld and continue his quest throughout the galaxy.

I will not comment on that, which I will not recognize as BSG.
However; if you are curious about Ayeyes, Sylfs, and how human beings will build androids, or how robots might bulld androids; here are some start resources.
Sylf;

Ayeye;

Android;

Robot;

Clone;

As you can quickly see, the idea that we will build robots, that will in turn sample us, to build clonable synthetic life, that is numerically restricted to only certain easily clonable models, is not only ludricrous; but it is just plain bad science.
Our robots will have wheels. We won't make androids(What's the point?); and any sylfs we construct will either be food bricks we eat; or will eat our garbage, and extrude; either plastic, super-silks, bucky balls, refined chemical compounds, and metals; or will purr when we pet them.
As always,

Are we talking New or OLD series?
To muddy the waters even more:
In one of the original printings of the TV novelization, the Cylons were actually organic beings encased in shiny armor suits. In fact, they had three eyes on stalks that constantly wavered back and forth... much similar in effect to the robotic TV series "eye". That first take on Cylons is that they weren't robotic in nature.
As for the NEW series, its is my personal belief (not having ANY evidence but circumstantial suspicions) that ALL the characters in the show are Cylons. The Colonials, the Cylons, everybody. The reason why the Cylons are trying to destroy the Colonials is because they are "faulty". They have somehow "evolved" and become more than standard human-form cylons. Maybe they are even an experiment created by the Cylon Empire to 'evolve" that got out of hand. They were programmed to believe that THEY had created the cylons but it is actually the other way around. The reason the cylons are trying to wipe them out is that the experimental units evolved, but gained too many undesirable traits along with the organic ability to reproduce. You know, like independence, ego, etc.
Just a thought. Probably not an original one.

Well, since we're not talking about the new show on this site, Gordon, I don't see where you're muddying the water at all. Hint, hint.
;)
It was ABC's Network Standards & Practices group that dictated the purely mechanical nature of the Cylons - they didn't want living creatures blown up every week. However, it was Larson's original intention that the Cylons were cybernetic beings - part organic, part mechanical. The first novelizations reflected that, and in his books Richard Hatch returns to that original concept.
So there's no real muddy water here. The quality of the coffee notwithstanding.
