'Dynasty' Co-Star Bochner Dies at 81

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) TV veteran Lloyd Bochner who's best known as Cecil Colby on the '80s primetime soap "Dynasty," has died at the age of 81.

The Canadian actor passed away in his Santa Monica home on Saturday, Oct. 29 after a long battle with cancer, report news sources.

Born in Toronto on July 29, 1924, Bochner began acting at the age of 10 for CBC radio. His film, stage and TV career spanned more than five decades. His most popular roles were playing suave, supporting villains.

He began his Hollywood career in 1960 when he moved to Los Angeles. His career includes roles on "Dr. Kildare," "The Richard Boone Show," "Perry Mason," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Mission: Impossible," "Mannix," "Bewitched," "Battlestar Galactica," "Columbo," "Murder, She Wrote" and voice work for "The Adventures of Batman & Robin."

Among the highlights of his career is playing prosperous oilman Colby in "Dynasty" and starring in "The Twilight Zone" episode "To Serve Man" (it's a cookbook!), one of the most popular episodes of all time.

On the big screen, he's appeared in "The Night Walker," "The Dunwich Horror," "Millennium" and "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear.

Bochner also co-founded the Committee to End Violence to address the impact of violence in TV and movies on popular culture.

He's survived by his wife Ruth and daughter Johanna.

How sad.

I really enjoyed him in Greetings from Earth. He was one of the very few bright spots in that episode. I can't believe as many episodes of Twilight Zone that I've seen, that I missed "To Serve Man".

He will be missed...

Very sad.

His most recent BSG related activity was signing the Rittenhouse Archives autograph card for the first set of BSG cards. Along with the DVD set of BSG it will be a lasting legacy to us. I shall hope to catch him in a Twilight Zone episode.

The last 12 months have held many terrible losses for the Sci-Fi community.
Lloyd has been in so many great shows and movies over his long carreer, his legacy will live on.

His Leiter was excellent--and one of the few high points to the Terra trilogy. Very sad news. :(
