NBC has picked up a full season of sea-creature thriller "Surface."
"Surface" has been gaining ground (so to speak) on Monday nights, as its adults 18-49 rating has grown 17% between its Sept. 26 debut and most recent airing (Oct. 10). Late Friday, NBC was still determining the exact episodic order for "Surface," plotting its season around the Winter Olympics (which will force several weeks of preemptions).

Season to date, the show has averaged a 3.3 rating and 9 share among adults 18-49, and 10 million viewers. "Surface" has consistently rated second in the timeslot (behind CBS) with young adults and viewers, not including sports telecasts.

Josh and Jonas Pate created and exec produce "Surface" for NBC Universal TV. Show stars Lake Bell as Laura Daughtery, an oceanographer who discovers the mysterious deep-ocean creature, while Ian Anthony Dalr and Rade Sherebedgia play the government officials who try to keep the discovery a secret.

"Surface" also stars Jay R. Ferguson and Carter Jenkins.

Wow! Great news. Maybe it will get time to develop. But they better pick up the pace.

I'm intrigued by the adult storylines, but the one following the two kids and their pet sea monster just ruins that show for me. 30 years later, and the Boxey character is still fracking shows up for me.

Well, like BSG TOS, Surface is designed to be watched by all the family, so that's why you've got the kid and his friend in there.

I am glad that Surface is being given a chance. Of the various scifi/fantasy shows that premiered this fall, Surface is the only one I've really gotten into. Threshold was very dull. Invasion had too many characters to keep track of and none of them were likeable, so I gave up on it. As I mentioned a while back, Surface occasionally reminds me of SeaQuest, which may be why I am enjoying it.
