What do you listen to?

Personally, music plays a very vital role in my life. That being the case, I DO have very favorite songs, and bands. Some of mine:

and there are MANY others, about 30 Gigs of MP3's total. Basically since I loaded the 10 disk changer in my Jeep, it has been playing nonstop no repeat for about a week now and I havnt changed any of the CD's. In the sorority house its basically the same story. So what do YOU like?

Eerie :eek: ....with the exception of three of those groups, that's pretty much what I listen to...My list includes old Metallica, Poison and other "hair" bands, Alice Cooper, Helmet and Rob Zombie, among others... :D

YES. The best prog rockers on the planet. I've had the chance to work with some of the guys and I'm addicted to it probably moreso than even Galactica !

One of my best friends just joined Black Sabbath as the keyboardist, its really great to see that band come back from all the problems they've had.... If you really like Judas Priest a friend of mine is the artist who does their artwork, you can buy prints from his website www.the-masque.com They won album cover of the year once with one of his pieces. His prints are amazing...say Daniel sent you !

Since this discussion is about music and not BSG, I've moved it over to the Cafe', since you often find music in cafe's. You also find music on BSG, but it usually didn't consist of 'hair metal'.

Personally, my favorites from that era include Cinderella and Warrant.

I'm not a huge music lover, and I very rarely buy CDs. But I listen to the radio quite alot at work, in the car and at home. So if I hear a song I really like, I will buy it on iTunes.

Oh yea Breea, I have CD's of music from Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Dinah Shore, you name it, I have LOTS of jazz and big band stuff. Cant do a floor routine in gymnastics without the classics. My collection is eclectic to say the least, few people have a collection where Ozzy sits next to Dinah Shore, who is next to Danzig, who is next to.....

I'm very eclectic in my music tastes.

I listen to a lot of Christian music (worship songs and various artists like Steven Curtis Chapman).
Then I listen to soundtracks - Les Miserables, Moulin Rouge, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, etc...)
I have a Country Radio station going in the car, usually.
And a more contemporary rock station going at home when I wake up in the morning (best station I can get in, XLC isn't traditionally contemporary rock, they do play a lot of new stuff but they play a country song here and there and some older stuff too).

Like I said, eclectic.

ABBA is cool, I like some of their stuff, then again, I like Enya too. So I guess theres that. I have even listenned to some great Opera, but to understand French is a must for GOOD opera. And I do like Toby Keith and Clint Black. I like Tim McGraw, that song "Dont take the girl" makes me cry every time. Its good to have an open mind and be willing to take time to listen and learn about the things we might be raised to believe are bad. My daddy hated country, but I listenned to it and found stuff that he eventually liked, and now he likes it too. Same with disco. I still listen to ELO and BeeGees, though not often. In fact my ELO Discovery CD got melted last month and Im still looking for a replacement.
I also like European bands, After The Fire, and Falco, to name a couple.
I have this one double CD set its called Chess, its a rock opera about "cleverly enough" chess! its an oper about a series of games between an American and a Russian, and the drama and love triangles that ensue. Its very good, if you can find it give it a good home. it does have that song, by Herbie Hancock, or maybe Murry head, "One Night In Bangcock".
Also, if you like interesting new stuff, Criss Angel, the magician, is a musician as well, and he has at least four albums, I have Mind Freak, System 1, 2, and 3. Its great stuff. Google him if your interested.
I also like bagpipe music, I learned to play a little pipe while at a Ren' fair, the had a drum and pipe group and my gf dared me to ask them if I could "blow his pipe" LOL and I did. He was very nice about it, he showed me how to hold the bag, and how to arrange the pipes and everything, it was a joke that turned into an excellent lesson in "piping" which I followed up on for several months. I had to use what they call a compressor though, not enough wind in my little lungs to keep that bag inflated.
I also like some Japanese music, but my Japanese is EXTREEMLY limited. As a result, they could be singing "Go kill the white chic" and Id be dancing along happily never knowing it. HAHHA
About the only thing I dont care for is rap, only because it seems to violent and aggressive, and Im not looking to fight when Im dancing, I want to enjoy that time not get upset and angry. Oh and mariachi music, hate it. Sounds like spanish polka to me, and all sounds the same. I guess if I understood spanish, it might be more interesting, but I dont so it doesnt.

I am too varied...

I mainly like anything from the 80's, Mainly the Clash, and various groups, some known, some unknown...
I love classical music too, from originals, down to the Trans Siberian Orchestra(the group that make rock versions of the old ballards).
I have one of the largest collections(in my friend circles) on 1920/40's Dance/Jive/Cabaret music, from the Andrew Sisters, to Zeitrich, from all corners of the world, including Soldier ballards, and those awe inspiring, military band music.

I like to refer to my musical interests as being anything from Bach to rock... including country.

It really depends on the mood I am in...

AC/DC, Billy Idol, Scorpions, Van Halen and ZZ Top, among others, all get play when I feel like being loud!

Just about anything from the 80s (Duran Duran, INXS, Depeche Mode, Heart, OMD... anything really!) and a lot from the 70s (ELO, Allan Parsons, BeeGees, Boston, Toto etc.) is a nice middle ground. Some stuff from the 90s and the 2000s are also pleasant to listen to... Evanessance, Green Day, No Doubt, just to name a few.

But I like instrumentals or just music a lot of the times, so film scores, new age stuff like Enya, Enigma and a Canadian duo named Mystic (I think) gets a lot of play.

Somewhere in there you can throw country (the story kind), jazz/ big band (Harry Connick Jr., Louis Armstrong), show tunes (Les Miz, Phantom, and JCS, aong others), opera/ballet, eurodance (trance, robert miles, ABBA etc.), and Hungarian pop (country of birth).

I like it all. The closest to a "favorite" for me would be Billy Joel.

To sum it all up, I listen to just about anything (expect Rap, which I do not consider music), depending on my mood.

Believe it or not, John Tesh does pretty good "background music".

My tastes also run in an eclectic crowd - as I started above. My favorite music is fairly energetic - something with a strong back-beat, complex guitar (think Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix), but I also like Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins (Genesis), Enya (in smaller doses, she's a favorite of Mrs. Dawg).

I like blues, too - electric blues, if you will, like Led Zepplin or Stevie Ray Vaughn did, is my favorite, but I've been known to enjoy some more traditional blues and jazz, too.

I'm getting more interested in Country over time, too. I'm not really into the "hillbilly" twangy stuff, but I like a lot of what Toby Keith and his contemporaries do.

But you can give me, any day of the week: Zep, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Warrant, Cinderella, Steppenwolf, etc - and the occassional Iron Butterfly, Ronnie James Dio, Metallica........................................

There's a lot of stuff out there that I recognize and like, but I don't know who does what anymore in the pop genre. I like country except when it gets too formula; Alan Jackson and Shania Twain, and of course Garth Brooks, come to mind as names associated with songs I like. "Friends in Low Places" ranks in the top 1% of songs, IMHO.

But while I don't usually buy CD's anymore, and never have gotten into the world of iTunes or any of the online services, more likely than not there is a Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, or Beatles CD floating around in my car. In my mind, Joel was like many musical masters...simply a genius, and pretty eccentric in a down to earth kind of way.

Under normal condidtions, mostly garage rock. Top picks are Paul Revere and the Raiders, Chocolate Watchband, and the Electric Prunes. There is also Redd Kross.

(No, I did not grow up with these band. I just found them. Well, I did grow up in the Redd Kross era.)

In the Viper, metal is a must. Basically, anything with grit. Joan Jett, GnR, Crew.

When just cruising the stars, pop rock is good, but never anything too wussy! :rotf:

I fell in love with a couple songs that rock, we used them in some cheer routines. One is on the Lost In Space sound track, I think its number three, Get Busy Child. Totally rocks.
The other is track 8 on the Tomb Raider CD, The Revolution Will Be Televised. Those two get me going, and when I borrow my gf's rice rocket (GSXR-1000) I can really get it wound out. I keep wanting to trade her my Jeep for it, but she wont have it... cant say I blame her, Rocky isnt exactly doing great these days, hes seen better days. Maybe I can trade him for one....

This song seems more based on "The Terminator" but it does have some lyrics that could also be used for Battlestar Galactica.

Avoiding TNS discussion, all I can say is I know who this song would be perfect for. I wish I had a copy of the song, because I have a music video in mind all of a sudden.

Have you tried their Painkiller CD? Theres two songs (One continuous tune really) on the B side, Battle Hymm and One Shot at Glory. They are really the epic of fighter combat rock. I think they were watching Top Gun or something when they wrote that one.

Right now I'm stuck on My Chemical Romance. My friend has got me listening to Fall out Boy. Other than that Rob Zombie, All American Rejects, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Ying Yang Twins. Unfortunatly at work we have to listen to this soft rock station and since I close I have to listen to Delilah so I know the words to every love song ever made since like the 50's. lol
