Favourite ST: TOS Episode

Here's one I've started at CA, but I'd like the Fleets Faithful to chime in on this.

I know it's a third season one, but The Mark of Gideon, the one about overpopulation always freaks me out. It's the bits where you see the people pressed up against the walls of the fake Enterprise.

And of course, The Shat's great in The Enemy Within.

The Immunity Syndrome was one of my favorites, as was The Tholian Web.

The Tholian Web is another season three ep.

Everyone remembers season three for Spock's Brain but there were some pretty good eps in that season.

The Devil in the Dark from season one was a good stab at showing a non-humanoid lifeform for the times too

I enjoyed Devil in the Dark. It was nice, how they turned the tables on the miners.

Also, from Season 1, The Naked Time was a good episode. I liked the exchange between Kirk and Spock, at the end.

Spock: "We have 3 days to live over again."
Kirk: "Not those LAST 3 DAYS!"

Star Trek TOS always had the best end scenes. Often they were just jokes at Spock's expense and Nimoy would raise that eyebrow, and you laughed with them.

We'll never see the like of those guys again. The mold was definitely broken! ;)

This one's relatively easy for me.

#1-The Doomsday Machine (fantastic action; terrific score)
#2-The Trouble With Tribbles (good humorl; also great score)
#3-All Our Yesterdays (Mariette Hartley was my first crush)
#4-The Tholian Web
#5-Mirror, Mirror
#6-Balance Of Terror
#7-Immunity Syndrome
#8-I, Mudd ("Harry Mudd! Oh, you borgas frat, you!")
#9-The Ultimate Computer
#10-The Omega Glory (gets called the worst by a lot, but I think this is the least intrusive of the parallel/similar Earth stories since it doesn't get sprung until the end unlike too many other episodes)

Another 'earth-parallel' episode is A Private Little War. Once again, it's the commentary at the end, between Kirk and McCoy, that really puts the exclamation point at the end of the sentence.

The one gripe I had with "A Private Little War" is that McCoy never comes up with an explanation of what his alternate solution would be to the problem. Instead he's allowed to cop-out with an "arming them isn't the answer" as if that's supposed to be the end of things. You can not IMO be making a statement about how supposedly wrong Kirk's actions are, if you're not going to have the guts to put forth an alternate solution.

Nancy Kovack does rate highly in the female guest star department with me. :) (with Mariette #1).

"Balance of Terror" was easily my favorite ST: TOS episode.

It felt like a cool submarine movie in space.

Mark Lenard and the actor who played his Centurion in the Romulan Bird of Prey turn in powerful performances.

And the tension was perfect.

There are loads of fantastic TOS episodes, here are a few of my favs.

Season 1.
The City on the Edge of Forever I know it is fashionable to dismiss this episode these days, but I still love it. The best Star Trek episode ever IMO.

Errand of Mercy The first apperance of the Klingons, a galactic war looming, and Kirk & Spock trapped on an occupied planet! All of these would still have made this a brilliant episode, but add John Colicos as Commander Kor, and you lift it into a whole other level!

Balance of Terror See Martok's post above- it sums it up perfectly! :salute: Still the best ever space battle between two big ship on the big or small screen.

Season 2.
The Doomsday Machine Simply brilliant! Easily one of the best sci fi episodes of all time. And a great performance by William Windom as Commodore Decker.

Mirror Mirror A great episode. One of the most visually stunning when you appear on the alternate Enterprise. And, of corse, Spock with a beard! ;)

Wolf in the Fold While I agree that there are better season 2 episodes, this has always been a favourite of mine. I have always been facinated by Jack the Ripper, and this was a nice twist on the story. It was a Scotty episode. And it had some really chilling moments.

Season 3
The Tholian Web An absolute classic! :thumbsup:

All Our Yesterdays I really enjoyed this episode. With Kirk held as a witch, and Spock regressing into a Vulcan caveman, it is just a joy! And how hot was Mariette Hartley as Zarabeth!!! :eek: OMG! If she ask you to stay behind, you really would be tempted! :D

The Paradise Syndrome Another episode which I have always loved.

I loved Trouble with Tribbles. I agree with Eric, it had humor .

my favorite would be the one where they sling shot around the sun and go back in time.........I can't remember the name of the episode.

Mariette Hartley's Zarabeth probably ranks as the only intellectual cavewoman in the entire history of fictional drama. :D

"Assignment Earth" was a backdoor pilot that never made it, but I always wished that someone would revist the concept and try to make a go of it.

If "Assignment Earth" were revisited, I'd still not be completely sure how the premise could be sustained on a regular basis and just what would Gary and Roberta be doing all the time, and how can you create dramatic tension out of it.

Very good episode.

One episode I would love to see adapted from a fan-novel (back when they were done in the 60's/70's) was the one where William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley are accidentally switched out with their series characters, and end up on the real Starship Enterprise. It is one of the most hilarious stories of Trek I've ever read (besides How Much for Just the Planet), and I think it would've made a helluva episode.

At least the movie Galaxy Quest kinda touched on this. :)

I love the bit where Shatner as Kirk in his quarters hears the message from the bridge and says, "I'm on my way." Then "Shatner stood there for a moment, not knowing what he was waiting for. Then he realized he'd been waiting to hear a director say "CUT!". :D
