Lucasfilm has announced that writing for the planned live action TV series will begin in January at Skywalker Ranch. I wonder how much will be charged for a 30 or 60 second commercial spot when the series premieres? Personally I'd like to see FX picking it up. Hopefully Lucas & Co. don't drop the ball this time around.

I hope FX doesn't pick it up. I don't get FX. :(

I just hope it isn't target-marketed mainly to children... but I guess, that will be the case...

I tend to be optimistic. I think that the series, if handled correctly, will be able to explore many aspects of the Star Wars universe that fans have been curious about. If the writing is high quality, I think it will be worth watching.

I agree...

I shall change my wording to the following:

I look forward to seeing how Lucas & Co. plan on keeping the interest of the young fans as well as not forsaking the older, long-time loyal fans... :)

I think to complete the story saga so to speck . would be to pick up after ROTJ and see the Jedi's rebirth and Lukes have to rediscover and relearn so much. It's excepted that Ford and Fisher would possible wil wish not to take part but Hamil possible??

I believe, once upon a time, there were supposed to be eps 7-9, then Lucas changed his mind, changed it back, then again changed it opting for the series instead...

I agree. I think the period following the fall of the Empire would be an interesting one to explore.

I think the success of this show will based on the timeframe it's based on. But I also agree that it should be based after the "fall of the Empire".

I believe Lucas has stated already that the series will take place between Eps 3 and 4. He also claims it will be grittier than the movies. What that means exactly is anyone's guess.

I'm just saying, Chewie better be a featured character. :D

Lucas has also mentioned that the series will focus on minor characters as well as a few Expanded Universe characters. A young Mara Jade, perhaps?

I actually think that Chewie might be a good character to develop for a series. Kashyyyk gets overrun by the Imperials. They have jedi friends to speak english with and move the story along. We also can see other villainous types along the way with an emerging Boba Fett and eventually, it dovetails into A New Hope with an actor who looks just like Harrison Ford playing a young Han Solo...

I would have liked to have see the Yoda adventures. See Yoda when he was a young Jedi and what type of adventures he would have had.

Something with Chewie sounds cool!
Maybe a young Boba Fett?

I'm pretty thatis what it will be about, a young Boba Fett, with the kid who played the young Boba Fett (now 18/19) in ATOC playing him again

I'm curious to see what kind of life they can give it with the timeline of tv production. I'll give it a fair shot, but fear they may run it into the ground because of the potential scope of the project.

Have we learned anything about this show yet? Is there enough information worth doing a Google search over?

Will it be traditional space opera proving Moore wrong or will Lucas jump on the Dark and Gritty band wagon?

Lucas made the announcement himself during an appearence at last year's Star Wars Celebration 3. Last I heard Lucasfilm was looking for writers and the initial writing phase would begin in January. Lucas would serve as the showrunner.

Very enlightening info. I'm looking forward to seeing what Lucasfilm has in mind. Yes, there's a good reason why Hasbro signed with Lucasfilm through 2018. There's more to come.

Sansweet said something vague about the show being ready by the "end of the decade." So, we might could see it by 2009 or 2010...and the beat goes on...

According to official reports, the Star Wars TV series will take place in the 19 years between Revenge of The Sith & A New Hope. It will focus on minor characters who were not prominently featured in the films, with possible cameo appearances by major characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, Yoda, etc... So, it is not a rumor.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine, the leader of the Galactic Republic, declared himself Emperor, and transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. In the process, he ordered the execution of Order 66, in which all members of the clone army of the Republic turned on their Jedi leaders and killed them. In a speech he delivered to the senate, however, he reported that there were remaining Jedi, and that these survivors would be "hunted down and defeated."

Referred to as "the dark times" by Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope, nineteen years will pass in this series, which is set between the years of 19 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) and 0 BBY. It is during this period that the newly formed Galactic Empire will rise to ultimate power throughout the galaxy. It is during this time period that the first Death Star will be constructed, albeit with many problems along the way.

However, most of the stories will be told from the perspective of minor characters from the Star Wars galaxy. From Star Wars creator George Lucas' own words, we may see the mysterious bounty hunter Boba Fett play a significant role in the series, with Daniel Logan reprising his role from Attack of the Clones. According to Lucas, several of the major characters from the films may have small appearances as well. Regardless, the issues involved in this particular era in the Star Wars history, it is said, will be quite clear, though the actual people involved may not necessarily be seen.

Over the course of the show, the Rebel Alliance, founded by Senator Mon Mothma and Senator Bail Organa in Revenge of the Sith, will gradually form into a full resistance against an Empire that holds the entire galaxy under its grip. The alliance, armed with its loyalist intentions to restore the Old Republic, will ultimately win its first battle against the Empire, setting up the events for A New Hope.

One scenario I'd like to see involves the early days of X-Wing Rogue Squadron.
