View Full Version : Not Giving Up

I was just viewing a Firefly website, and got to thinking...

I am not giving up on an osBG Continuation.

Farscape got their mini.

Firefly is getting their movie.

Both are Universal related.

So is BG.

I truly think they think we've gone away.

I think we need to slap them upside the head again big time. Make another huge run at getting a Continuation.

Remind them of the DVD sales. Remind them the fandom is still strong. Remind them that it's not feathered hair and disco we want.

I know many people are burnt out, etc. But if you are truly a supporter of a Continuation, I ask for this- Let's make a huge push once again.

I refuse to give up a dream.

I don’t believe we’ve given up yet I know I haven’t, the tactics of the battle have changed. Right now the best thing we can do for our selves is the push for the direct to DVD movie. Also we need some kick ass fan films to buzz around the world on the net. Sow people TOS own gritty reality.

When the DVD sells well the bean counters at The Black Tower will see the potential of TOS. When a couple of fan films rock the net and Moore/Ick have lost favor DeSanto will be back all will be swell.

No giving up here..

The passage of time may change the format we get, but I see no reason to assume we can't have our continuation of the original BSG concept.

Cheers,
Lara

I recommend that we, as fans, set up something at Conventions where the actors appear, with something HUGE at the ComicCon in So. CA the next time it rolls around.

They can ignore letters, but they can't ignore in person.

Thinking out loud. Why target the actors? They have no pull.

Do producers and studio execs attend Cons?

What is the plan? Surely we can get fan awareness up. I would suggest the direct to DVD flyer campaign get the convention boost.

It'd be great if we could get our hands on one of those replica Cylon suits and have a Cylon hand out flyers.

Jon, many times they do go to the larger cons.

Hammer, along with other execs, go to the ComicCon, and many Universal execs were at Galacticon.

I liked how the Save Farscape campaign was run. Very professional with a professional website http://www.savefarscape.com/ an online petition http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/SAVE_FARSCAPE/ and alot of local chapters/fan clubs getting invovled. There was other things going on in the background as well.

Might want to look into that campaign and see if there is anything there that can help you out with your efforts.

I recommend that we, as fans, set up something at Conventions where the actors appear, with something HUGE at the ComicCon in So. CA the next time it rolls around.

What about a cardboard stand-up? Nothing huge, maybe 14x9 that folds flat, that each actor could display on the table while signing autographs. It might be too much to ask that the actors themselves remember to pack the display for the plane ride to each convention, so we might have to rely on fans to set it up in each town. But if we could have a master list of the actors who would do it, the fans could keep track of where and when they need to show up with the ad. The display could have a flashy colorful poster for the continuation, and a web address to direct the curious to a place where they can learn about ways to help.

I would think that would be a great way of getting people who don't post on the message boards aware, as well as putting a legitimate face on things by way of having the actors sitting right next to the display.

Frag is on to something there, Bishop's direct to DVD flyer would be perfect.

Now if only we could kidnap that chap in Toronto ...

There's no question of Michelle and I giving up :salute:

We asked all of the BSG stars that we met at the Birmingham show about a continuation, if they'd heard the latest 'Glen' rumours, if they were all together to help the push, if they'd do it if there was one? etc, etc, etc.....
Most seemed enthusiastic, Dirk said he doubted it'll happen but he'd do it if they waved a big box of cigars in front of him! The girls seemed very enthusiastic, and Laurette even gave a knowing smile and said 'I think so' at the 'are you all together for that reason' question.
We even got Richard to show his fabled trailer :D
Our dream of continuation relies on a lot of things, but #1 for me is that these guys/gals still want to do it!
It was fantastic to hear them saying things like 'wouldn't it be great' and similar enthusiastic comments.

It's a long and glorious tradition of fan led continuation campaigns.
Look at Star Trek!
So long as we all 'Keep the Faith' (as Herb wrote on the pic he signed for us!) there will always be a chance. As long as the crew still want it, we should keep campaigning to make it happen.

And any chance, even a small one is enough to keep this Centurian polishing his armour.

I'm not giving up. Time limits what I can do but if I ever get some things done and it feels like that is taking way to long, I will eventuly do more. :)

I agree with not giving up, definitely Farscape and Firefly are good examples of not giving up. Don't know what can I do, but I'm definitely all ears to ideas. :holy:

I agree. even here in Holland we are NOT giving up the dream!
I have met the stars and it was very special!
I'm making a website about BSG to support the continuation. there will be an online petition. Also I have a personal signed petition. already 119 persons have signed it in two weeks time, people of all ages!
If there is anyone who wants to contribute something for this website, please do so!
I will let you know when the website is ready to go online! :)

When I get some time again, I'll get back to scriptifying Steve's DE story. I don't know if it'll be possible to raise the $100,000+ to shoot it (BSGTOS-true sets would be hellaciously expensive to build, even with my discounts on building supplies). But it would go a long way to promoting interest in a continuation.

But right now, Archangel (the short film, not my second personality) is taking up all of my production time.

BTW (to stay on-topic) - I'm still in the camp that thinks there's life in the old girl yet. BSG is still the giant that needs awakening.

I agree this thread is so important....and still very relevant. We need to be gearing up a new Continuation movement for then the last episode of TNS is broadcast. Basically we need to say "we're still here, we still want a continuation"

There was an article recently about Farscape fans raising $6000 to have a TV advert on local LA TV stations....perhaps instead of magazine ads, that's the best way forward ?

Fanfilms are also important, New Voyages has gained a lot of attention and I really hope that The 14th Colony is this fanbase's equivalent. My site hasn't been updated for too long due to not many new fanfilms, but its still there, promoting osBSG. Just like the fanbase....we're still here.....
